Game Pass price increase to $30/month

stack vouchers until the 12th october.by 2026 i should be replacing x box with a custom built PC anyway so about 4 months stacked should keep me going. Only reason i got an x box was to play fifa and still is the only online game i really play on it. A PC will be able to do that anyway with keys bought from cdkeys/loaded. I'll keep my x box to play tekken 6, tekken tag tournament and SF4 which i have on there its a good fighting game box.

This, the crappy state of unfinished games and outrageous prices are pushing people towards...

The fact that SO MANY people canceled their Game Pass subscriptions to the point where the refund site kept crashing speaks volumes.

There is literally no justification for spending $30 a month to play (probably mid) games at launch.

Plus, this is coming after price hikes for the consoles themselves. Microsoft is taking "L's" like it is their only goal in life.

I went and cancelled my game pass sub before the price hike, back when their employees were advocating violence and bullshit drama in their social media echo chambers.

The site where you manage subscriptions was broken and slow even then, it took at least 20 minutes for me to sort it out.

I haven't paid for a game in over a decade. Why buy rent a game when can just get free? Even games that you can laughably have stated to have 'bought' are only yours until some corpo worm decides it isn't anymore.

I would double cancel my subscription if I even had one.

I sold my Xbox systems a long time ago and my PC has enough games on it to not require their shitty subscription/cloud service anyway.

The only Xbox I have any interest in is the 360 because it can play everything I need anyway.

I'm honestly not shocked to see people cancelling their subs. I'm more surprised that it took this long for Microsoft to do something stupid enough to finally kill off the Xbox brand entirely lmao.

inb4 they scrap everything and just have a cloud-streaming game sub and become the next Google Stadia.

I wouldn't be too shocked honestly. At the very least I see them leaving their Xbox hardware up to third party partners (like Asus with that upcoming ROG Xbox Ally) and just existing as an ecosystem otherwise like Steam, Epic Games Store, etc. They might go into cloud-streaming for lower powered devices but I doubt they'd bother for this generation.

to be fair the cloud gaming thing is already included with Game Pass Ultimate. Probably wouldn't be a big shift to start offering a sub that only gives you access to cloud and they're basically there but with a better software library lmao.

I think that Xbox has been heading in the "software only" direction or ages. It's been said (and sang) many times since 2005, Microsoft aren't cut out to make hardware.

Not a surprise, It wasnt a sustainable model in the first place. They just wanted all people on the hook and then there just up the price. I have read people commenting

"I used to play all my games on GP, now if I cancel it i have nothing to play with"

The most funny thing is that the day before the announcement of this price hike, there was an article saying that GP is just printing money for them. I call BS on that and xbox fanbois attacked me and school me on how it was actually just the best of the best for players and gamers...

Well, that's life You always have to be prepared for someone trying to rip you off and Microsoft is one of the examples but well, they don't have to think that they will get far with it. I have read and heard that many have canceled their GamePass accounts. This probably did not have the desired effect which Microsoft probably wanted. Microsoft's own fault, stupidity is always punished.

Never bought it; I only tried it once on sale for one euro on my PC.

Honestly, I prefer to buy games and own them physically, rather than pay to "try" them and feel the rush to complete them before the subscription expires. But I understand those who have tried it, those who prefer to use it for a thousand reasons, and especially those who have seen its price go up unfairly.
At that point, I'll spend 30 euros on a real game...
