13th Floor is based on the book Simulacron-3 (I need to read that one).

As for Dark City do not look at the theatrical cut, start with the Director's Cut and don't look at any trailer, you'll see why in the movie. I liked The Crow and I, Robot by the same author.

Speaking of similar themes I kinda liked ExistenZ but I think it's not the best movie of its theme. I need to rewatch The Truman Show.

There must've been some sort of trend back in the late 90's.

As for Antarctica this continent has been quite fascinating how it's one of the few places that mankind couldn't have "settled" for real outside of small laboratories.

The sequels have some interesting ideas in theme. I'm quite fond of the third film, even though many say it's the weakest of the trilogy.
