I was just thinking about this...

Before RWBY got incredibly stupid - and it wasn't fucking Shakespeare to begin with -, the main point of the series was that negative emotions attracted the Grimm (nightmarish monsters that would maul and main you for fun), hence the need to train kids to become Hunters and Huntresses to fight them off and kill them.

There truly was something there, but it got shoved to the side when the writers decided to tackle twelve half-baked allegories at once.

But even before that shitshow, I thought that the Grimm idea could have been done better...

I mean, what if people were either taught to suppress negative emotions until they cracked (thus making the problem a whole lot worse when it inevitably backfired), or have the entire population secretly drugged to keep them calmed like in Quarantine (excellent game, by the way).

That would be much more interesting (IMO) and would also give future villains something real to rebel against instead of trying to topple the government because... reasons.

This would also work because the show desperately tries to humanize them at every turn anyway.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

Your turn!

Seriously. Let some of the characters die.

You had like 5 death scenes that meant nothing once they all (except one) came back just to make the player happy. Not many of them even serve a purpose after they return, they're just there to all be back for the finale and it really got on my nerves the first time I played.

Second, Zemus is genuinely kind of dumb. He only shows up and has any hint of even existing in the last act of the story. I think as a concept he's interesting: The embodiment of hatred itself that channels his hatred through his descendants.

However, he doesn't do much of anything ultimately. He just exists to explain away Golbez's misdeeds really.

I think that the story would have been more interesting if Golbez was a villain, like the hatred of Zemus being manipulated into Golbez's own hatred. Golbez could then instead have a change of heart when faced with the reality of what his actions have been for.

Give Golbez and Cecil a moment or battle to share with each other and further drive a relationship between hero and villain, that's important. And hint at Zemus a little earlier somehow. Reveal his existence at least.
