Fire Emblem Megathread

I was playing shadow dragon the other day, I was on chapter 10, and one of my healers (I dont remember her name but it wasnt a generic one) died, and I also recruited Maria to recruit minerva, only for maria to die right after recruiting Minerva

Yeah, FE in general can be brutal. Make one mistake and there goes you best unit forever.
Thankfully Shadow Dragon is pretty unbalanced, so can go on with your game without them (unless you want them)

Does anyone have experience with the Android version of Fire Emblem? Or is it another gacha game?

If you're talking about FEH (Fire Emblem Heroes), yes, it is a gacha game. Despite what its detractors may say, I would suggest giving the game a shot if you simply love Fire Emblem, and the idea of building up your favorite units.

As a forewarning, it's incredibly different, and exceedingly more complicated compared to it first came out. Here's an example:

On launch, "Distant Counter"; a skill that let your melee units counter ranged attacks, was one of the most coveted abilities. It was so powerful that if a unit had it built into their weapon, it would be their weapons only effect.

Now? Distant Counter is a dime a dozen ability that every unit can access. What's more, weapon and passive skills went from being one, two sentences at most, to being straight up paragraphs, rivaling that of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. If that doesn't sound up your alley... then the game is a hard sell. I will say though, despite how much more complicated skills are now, and how they continue to do so, FEH is still a gacha. And it's always easier to get started in a gacha the later you start, because of how many resources you have at your disposal.

I've been playing the game for 9 years every day, and I still love it, warts and all. However, I also don't take it "seriously" by min-maxing my units to score uber well in the competitive modes. That's a lot of time, planning, and money that I don't want to put into a gacha game.

All this to say, if the game interests you, try it. If you like it, great! If you don't, then oh well, at least you tried.

And in the event you were talking about Fire Emblem Shadows... I don't play that so can't help you there. All I can say about that game is that the designs are really cool.

I loved Fire Emblem Heroes and religiously played it for three concurrent years, Biggest Sanaki fan in existence to the point I even named myself Sanarchy on there. I loved using her and obliterating all the new and crazy popular units with my favourite character like you word the game and to advertise it. Arya with that 9 billion speed? No match for my girl!

That was a very fun high to be a part of, but I started having a problem with the game (and other gacha games and modern RPG's with this), where every single description of a skill has to be as long as War & Peace for some godforsaken reason, like they trying to submit something to the Writer's Guild here.

It's like they shot themselves in the foot and started gatekeeping the easy pick up and play title to obsessed and highly intelligent whales for some reason.

Sometimes ... out of my stubborn refusal to give up on what I love. I redownload the game and mess about. I click on a SINGLE skill on the newly released stuff. . .

My eyes feel like they're fading to dust. No thanks.

I spot a parallel here. I gave Heroes a shot back when it released, then dropped it during 2019 due to the disgust of powercreep. So much shit has changed & I barely recognize what I’m looking at right now, but I get why folks stay. It’s a small sandbox take of the mainline games. Prioritizing on how most folks like about FE. To grind up a unit to their fullest, closest thing to that would be Awakening & Fates.

Pretty much a shame with these new skills, like if more fluff was even necessary. It’s goddamn Yu-Gi-Oh cards in disguise. Which has the same problems too, if not more disgusting.

That's what made me stay away from this game. It managed to be worse than Yu-Gi-Oh with the "if/then" conditions

Are you sure? It can't be that overwhelming compared to what goes on in the OCG. Like, have you ever dealt with Clown Crew decks yet?

The funniest part is it's only gotten even more insane since then. Just look at Emblem Corrin's, or most recently, Emblem Roy's weapons. It's an entire mini novel. The worst part is they can easily consolidate all the word vomit into bullet points (Dokkan Battle did just that, and the passives are way easier to understand now), but instead they just over-specify in order to make sure the descriptions are as "clear" as possible.

I don't fault anybody for not wanting to play it, or quitting. As far as generosity goes, it's a great gacha, because you can easily spark a new hero if you save your orbs wisely. Not to mention the fanservice is off the charts. Giving Canis a unit based on the final chapter of FE5 is an awesome deep cut. Just a shame the game can be so hard to get into when it comes to the actual gameplay. Ironically enough, if you don't give all the crazy effects much thought, you'll have a fun time. Not exactly a great selling point for a strategy game, but, them's the breaks.

You know what else was also a great gacha?

E N T E R:

Rest in peace.

I played fe heroes occasionally for the first 4 years of its existence. then I quit completely around its 5th anniversary because of the power creep and losing interest in it. I still occasionally watch new unit reveals to see if any characters i like got new art for the game though

What did we think of the new Fortune's Weave footage? I'm looking forward to it. Looks like they're playing it pretty safe gameplay-wise. Definitely feels more like Three Houses than Engage.

This map makes it feel like it's gonna be the Sacred Stones of modern FE.

we going to the land of goth people.

though something that concerns me is that during the trailer it said you would choose a lord at the start. i fear a bit for another 3 houses situation where there are technically 4 routes but really 2 and a half routes worth of unique combat scenarios. the hopium/copium is that it ends up more like echoes where you are controlling multiple armies at once that you bounce back and forth from though
