I used to play this, until I got tired of paying for a sub every 60 days.
Similar to this, the time ticking really kills my enjoyment and sense of freedom.

I am still hoping for a FF14 private server which seems not yet there

I've played and raided since the tail end of Shadowbringers. I really do love this game I just wish it wasn't in such a weird spot right now. I think the game has a lot to offer in terms of present and past stuff (deep dungeons, the new crafting instances are cool, any adventuring forray, mount farming, ultimate raids) but, and it might be because I've been playing for so long or because I think the DT job changes kinda feel really bad, feels really boring.

I still love the game dearly and play it a lot. But man. Hopefully the 8.0 credit card actually pays off.

I wish they made more evergreen content instead of introducing some new interesting piece of side content just to have it over and done with, but at this point in the game’s lifespan I understand it’s not how they want to make it, usually. I don’t have any real solution though, just a thing I’m thinking about a lot.

Planning on doing the DT post-launch story soon, haven’t played in around a year but I’m kind of getting the urge again.

I imagine evergreen content is incredibly hard to come up with too. Like level cap, level sync, and eventual job changes are three things that make it incredibly hard for anything to even feel evergreen. Even the island they introduced in EW could easily just have the new crafter/gather materia patched in and it would give people incentive to keep up with it currently. I'm really hoping this new deep dungeon with a special difficulty scaling encounter at the end gives more ideas to the team for what evergreen stuff can look like.

Back in the saddle again.
My house was going to be demolished today, and I haven't played any of the Dawntrail post-launch story (or any post-launch content really so there's a lot of new stuff), so it felt like a good time to get back in the swing of things as I'm not really interested in stopping playing and abandon my house altogether.

Also gonna level Black Mage and Botanist. I really enjoy gathering in this game but Botanist has been stuck on level 19 for an eternity lol.

Hello. Last time I had the subscription I started Stormblood and done the Alexander raid. I really really liked Heavensward, but ARR was a slog for 3/4 of it.
I'm not very fund of MMOs, but I do like this one a lot for how it plays.
However...the text. Good lord, there's so much and almost feels like a Visual novel for how it presents. I did played some and I can like the genre if I'm into, but applied with MMOs with the archaic language it can trick my brain. It does give the world a lot of personality and immersion.

I really like how crafters and gatherers also get their own realized storylines each expansion. Even if they're pretty simple, it's still fun and makes them feel more significant.
This is from the Fisher questline in Dawntrail.

A semi-disabled veteran friend of mine was super into this game for a LONG time. He was committed since the beginning, all the way until maybe a little over a year ago. He tried pulling me into it every time we talked, even back when I had zero time to play any games AT ALL, much less an MMORPG..
He apparently got discouraged and eventually pushed out by in-game politics. Allegedly his whole guild turned against him over some BS. He was a Dark Knight/Tank that went by the name: Magus

Never fun to get stuck in drama. That’s one of the reasons I play MMOs casually (I’ve been in the same guild/Free Company since the start and it’s had its fair share of drama too, but I’ve never been part of it thankfully), that kind of commitment would probably sour the experience for me.

I loved this game as a kid, haven't played in a few years. I miss the good parts of it, even made some really good friends who are still very much in my life. But I also had a lot of bad experiences with creepy people on there. I still sometimes consider going back to the game but when I'm paying a subscription I feel like I have to play the game to justify it so then I end up not playing anything else.

My subscription ended today, I got so caught up in housing that I forgot to do the newest main quest stuff ::sailor-embarrassed

Yep, everytime. The only time I was ever able to keep up was when I let my subscription just keep going. But I guess that's not a bad thing. The most unhappy people on there were always the ones who had nothing left to do. And the happiest were the ones who created their own fun.

I resubbed today so I can make good use of my time on the clock and craft these silly crafter teas and the foods whose name I forgot, to prepare for the next gear recipes. At least that's the plan for now, not sure if I'll do it again, going up against botters on the market is so tiresome.

So either that or I'll just go fishing again.

Done 32 MSQs out of 122 so far of Stormblood! Pretty sure if I keep the pacing (5-6 MSQs per day) I will finish by half of December. Kugane looks very cool!

Oh, and smh I've managed to get the main exclusive items from the Fall Guys even in time since the collab just expired again. I'm really not sure if I wanna play the actual game now.

Currently here. I saw I have the final 25 MSQs and then I'm done with main Stormblood. I hope the following 40 MSQs post-game won't drag much.

(Damn, 24 days to accomplish all that. But at least I savored the expansion as it should)

I wanna ask a question, in particular to has purchased the game on Steam: I saw Dawntrail currently discounted at 50%, which ofc is the main one to get since I'm interested to play 'till Endwalker included.
I'm not going to play FFXIV anytime too soon. If I purchase the expansion for how much time can I decide to use the code so I can upgrade it to the full content? If it will work for, idk, March or April 2026 then that's great!

Got replies from the official Discord...welp, at least I'm glad I got Dawntrail for a decent price, too bad it doesn't include 30 days of subscription. See you in 2026, FFXIV.

I started playing FFXIV in 2020 during the pandemic. I love the game! Alas, I've been off-and-on over the years since. Most recently I played it last fall, but I could not afford Dawntrail and still don't have it. I know the EP disappointed many, but I still look forward to getting it someday and playing FFXIV again!

I've been itching to hop back into XIV for side content, but I kind of grew tired of the combat system. I wish there was more customization instead of the same skill rotation

I know that back in the day, when combat customization was still a thing, the meta made everyone that was at least semi-invested in mid/hardcore content comply to the same optimization routes, but idk, I think I still miss it. It doesn't feel much of a mmo without the least bit of build and combat customization

This

I stopped playing because combat + open world was just too boring. The game is practically just a more overcomplicated CoD Lobby with the duty roulette and there is nothing interesting to do in the open world, and if there is... you have to flight there which takes away all the travel and adventure, you might as well just tp to places.

And the combat got too standardized and easy. I would hope for a revamp but Yoshida already said it was not happening.

Honestly I wouldnt be surprised if the "BIG, upcoming CHANGE. Similat to ARR", is just them stop pretending this is an RPG and just make it a hack n slash
