Final Fantasy Thread

When you think about it the protagonist is the virtual representation of the player , or just you in the game world you are loving yourself in a weird way if you look at it from that Point of view ::thinking

That only makes sense in games where the protagonist is a blank slate or created by the player. Games like Final Fantasy, I see more like movies where I can give the players commands in combat. So I'm like their strategist and personal advisor.

Can work on all games really since you see the events always from a certain character POV , in FF7 its mostly cloud add on it you get to make decisions sometimes so I think it generally applies to games with protagonists like gordon freeman or protagonists like terra or arthas or jill.

I like the dynamic in Fire Emblem for GBA, where the player is acknowledged as an off camera tactician that is advising the main character throughout the journey. A clever way of having the player feel a part of the story.

Yes if its acknowledged that you aren't seen in the game like lets say CNC games where you are mostly called "commander" and "general" then it works , but in a game like silent hill? Where would harry be getting his actions from? Through revelations from the radio? I don't think so , the difference between games and movies is you are a part of the game world whether you are a character represented on the screen or an off screen presence like mention above , in movies you watch a guy go through actions that you have no control over , in a game you are the one to decide what the character does , the main character usually the player is a way for you to communicate with the game and the game to communicate back with you , of course you don't always get to influence every decision in the game for the sake of story and such.

In Final Fantasy games we are always in the shoes of the protagonist either firion , cecil , bartz and more we are always seeing events unfold from their perspective save for when the story takes these characters out for a bit and puts us in different people shoes , like galuf rescuing the party , or zell punching the guards to get the weapons or tifa and cid when cloud goes crazy.

In terms of battle I think from the game world perspective the actions you do are a set of individual actions the characters do like casting the right spell because they want to or attacking the weakest enemy to finish him off , it can also be influenced by the team leader like lets say cloud telling aerith to heal the team or it can be planned out before the battle which is something I assume many people do when playing FF games like the opening move the spells they cast etc.

I guess you could be the conscience of the characters or destiny, or some omnipotent invisible force guiding the players.

Like when Jaheira gets annoyed at you giving her commands in Baldur's Gate 1.

Thread question: what status condition is the worst in the entire series?

and by that i mean ones that make you have this reaction whenever you encounter them regardless of game
all debuffs are bad, but i would say confusion is the most annoying.

Confuse isn't that bad because it can be countered pretty easily with friendly fire. I'd say something like petrification, condemned or virus is more annoying.

these are some cool galuf images, just lit, ff 5 is so good, on my top 5 ff games, unironically

eh, they're all worthy of being tied for first place to me. i said confused mostly because of the malboro meance monster from the omega ruins in ffx. it can easily ruin your progress and send you back anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour backwards.

On the question of debuffs I think silence can be pretty bad , berserk removes your caster from the game....that can be pretty devastating.

But scariest has to be petrify at least berserk or confusion allows the character to take exp , petrify just says "no lol" the reece birds or whatever they were called in FF1 if they petrify the white mage then its game over its that OP...

Ey masteren , you tried Final Fantasy tactics or not yet? If yes then report...

not yet. i had some trouble with that psx emulator that you suggested. i don't think i had everything set up correctly, it booted up but just hung on a black screen upon loading the game. i found a program called duckstation and it works. played a bit of a yugioh mod to try it out.
i do have the Convenience mod for ff tactics sitting on my desktop. i'll be booting it up later; i got distracted with dragon quest monsters 2.

Oh yeah duckstation might be better well I emulate for phone so I can't tell if epsxe runs well on pc well no hurry just tag me here when you play it interested in knowing your thoughts about that abomination of a game.

i'm certain that i need plugins for it work properly. i tried looking on the site that the mini help guide sends you too, but it didn't seem to have them. or if it did, it was hidden somewhat well going by other people searching for them.
i did boot the game up a little while ago after i posted my previous message and before i had to wash some dirty dishes. forgot what it is like to play a game that takes itself seriously. already got a favorite character. here's a couple of screenshots:

thats where i got the idea from, I wanted to hear other people's opinions
oh. didn't know that. it just randomly was suggested to me while i was watching papasea's new video about beating pokemon ruby with a lvl 100 zizagoon. it seemed a bit relevant to your question.

I don't agree that eject is the worst condition in Final Fantasy, sorely because it cannot lead to a game over.

i don't the video was meant to be a top 7; i think it was more of "these 7 are among the worst in different games"
