Final Fantasy Thread

i learned from reading some comments on a youtube video that nintendo is the it is because of the scarcity mindset. they keeping taking sites down with their games because if people have free access to the games, they will never buy a rerelease of the old games.
kind of hilarious in my opinion, i got metroid dread from playing metroid fusion on my psp. i liked how it played and the story, so hearing that a new game was coming out in the 2d style like that game made me get it.

Yeah Nintendo is like that. They want to make their IPs scarce so they can keep charging customers for the same games over and over on their virtual consle. Also so they can have easy wins by remaking old games.

Not really ? The gameplay is still the same adding more scenes and exploring characters more won't change ff2 into something else its for the good of the game really....the game is not received very well I heard its callled a black sheep among the fans I doubt anyone would oppose having the emperor appearing more in the game or having maria and her brother leon story plays differently where its more of back and forth until he breaks free from the emperor control he is one scene our enemy and the next one he is one of team like nothing happened LOL peak storytelling.

Cid , and Joseph deaths and mindu death doesn't hit as much you don't spend much time with them to feel attached to them they could work on making the parts with these characters more lengthy , im fine without romance but it won't hurt if we see gordon and hilda getting along maybe gordon comforts the princess after her father death and scotts too , maybe add something between firion and maria give Gus his own character arc that explores the character more he already has the ability to speak to animals expand upon that would be hella cool , give gareth the only character along with gordon to have be interesting give him some arc too maybe he feels guilty that he wasn't with his brethren when the empire decimated the dragoons explore his background more and such.

Same goes for leila I mean she does something cool when she barges into princess hilda room to save your butt from getting killed but like that's really it where did she come from? Does she have ties to the empire? Etc etc etc...

Also can I mention how the game constantly strips you of your equipment? When gordon leaves the party you don't get the items you gave him back same case with gareth leila (WHERE IS MY TRIDENT GORDON?).

These are just few ideas I came up with right now.

At that point, they might as well make a new game (which is what they did). This mentality of making incremental improvements on old games never made sense to me. I don't understand this mentality, it is so backwards. We don't need a slightly improved Josef when we have General Leo and Aeris.

Heard a statement once that said final fantasy only got good at its 4th installment having played the first 2 games I can see a bit of a point into this statement but to really see if its true I have to get ff3 the original version or any non 3d version that isn't well pixel remaster anyone know where to get it? Since its the first iteration ever of job system which was pretty decent in ff5 when I first saw the job system I thought you will pick a job and work and such the word "job" must have been replaced with class its way more fitting.
ff3 doesnt have a lot of releases, your options for 2D version are
1.) NES (not recommended personally because NES)
2.) WIIware port of NES
3.) Pixel Remaster

thats why most people (including myself) just played the 3D remake, because until recently, there werent any good versions of the 2D version unlike the other NES FF's (1 & 2) that got Wonderswan, PS1, GBA, and PSP versions before Pixel Remaster

the main point for minor improvements in the old games is to mainly fix the weird errors and bugs that existed. int doesn't work in ff1, weapons with elemental properties don't work, if two characters target one enemy and it dies from the first attack, the second attack won't auto-lock on to a different enemy, the character will attack empty air. it took me a while to figure this out the first time i played nes ff1 on my wii.
nes ff2 has an exploitable bug with the stat leveling up mechanic. you can select an action, let the game select a target, cancel and repeat. it builds up the experience bar for weapons and spells.
i'd say tweaking the mechanics for ff2 by using quest 64's stat mechanics would help quite a bit with the game.

if two characters target one enemy and it dies from the first attack, the second attack won't auto-lock on to a different enemy,
It's wild to me that this is a toggleable feature in the PSX version.

i think this is rooted in the d&d origins. you were supposed to think out every move. someone playing the game in the late 00's/early 10's isn't going to do that with most regular enemies, especially with goblins and wolves around the first town. and more so after playing the gba and psp versions first. you see weak enemies, you just stab them.

Those are the types of fixes you get in a remaster, and we already have two remasters of FF2: FF Origins FF1/FF2 bundle on the PS1 and the Pixel Remaster.

The other poster was suggesting an expansion to the story and at that point, you are better off making a new game than continuosly tinkering with an existing one.

There's always the possibility of messing up the charm of the original story by tinkering too much. Cough *Remake project*, sorry.

yeah, that's the one. i could never be bothered to go from level 45 to 60 to beat the game. it was too much grinding for me when i was younger. i'd get to lvl 50 and lose interest. i managed it a few years ago by strictly following a rule set after cecil becomes a paladin. it worked, only had to gain a few levels for the final dungeon. it took longer overall, but it wasn't too bad with breaks here and there.
Im not usually a fan of the "grind" thing so I think wandering a bit every now and then substitutes the need to do a long grind before the final boss.

yeah, i brought that up in an earlier post. i also suggested doing something like ff3, which had a scene here or there where the characters chatted once in a while, or ff4 ds, with thoughts bubbles for each character.
the only other path available is adding side stories that add some additional information, or expand upon a scene more, like hilda fleeing the castle or minuw's journey to find the ultima tome.

I mean investing a bit into older games can be positive look at age of empires 2 its remaster is different from the original with a lot of improvements and added stuff all helped in bringing back aoe from the dead , it can lead to game selling even more than before and resurface in popularity.

Well then I guess no choice hah? The way to play ff3 is through the 3d remake then its settled.

I didn't notice it at first but then was like "why they attacking nobody??" Then realized this feature exists so much damage gone :|

i made up a set of rules to help with the grinding. in theory, when you hit level 60, you could stop. but it was basically get 5 levels before every boss fight.

Not bad but how did you know you gonna be fighting a boss? Its unpredictable at first playthrough load game ?

you can play either version. the remake has actual characters, so dialog varies a bit when the plot happens. Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus don't exist in the original. you get freelancer as a starting job, it's a weaker version of the onion knight job. there are ultimate weapons and gear in the remake, a new dungeon filled almost exclusively of the three strongest dragon enemies, who commonly drop elixirs and onion gear. and a super boss at the end who is level 81. there's also a few side quests too. and ninja and sage are not so broken that they render all other classes completely pointless.

indeed. you either need knowledge of the game or a slight modification of the rules. if you want, i could lay out all of the rules and their exceptions and stuff. and you and others can take a look.

Ehhh you know I like to into games blind with 0 prior knowledge to ensure the best experience as such I prefer if you refrain from mentioning anything about specifics of the game literally anything so I don't end up remembering it ☺.

Yeah sure lay out the rules could be interesting to see how others play FF

well, this was specifically for ff4 psx. i've tried this out with other games with mixed results.

here are the rules and guidelines for "The Rule of Five"
1. play the game as normal until you can heal your characters with some consistency. [you have access to an inn, npc that heals infinitely, magic pot of healing, tents, cabins etc] (saving is not necessary but you can do it whenever it is available. {i did this in ff3. there is a healing spring in the first dungeon when you only have luneth as your only party member.} level up to Lv 5.
1a. don't run from battles. only in dire situations can you run from a fight. every bit of experiences helps and so do money and item drops. [dire situations are: fallen party member (takes time to catch them up if you are a long way away from a revival spot. conflicts with 'got to fight every battle.')
1b. this rule can be disregarded or postponed under certain conditions or scenarios or situations. ex. cecil changes classes form dark knight to paladin, resetting to level 1. paladin cecil is the first permanent party member for ff4. relevel to previous level, [if he was lv 14, get back and then round up to nearest 0 or 5. 14 -> 15, 16 -> 20, etc.]
2. after first boss is defeated, level up to next goal post. lv 5 -> 10. repeat until either game is beaten or level cap is reached.
3. optional: if characters join under leveled, work on bringing them up to party line.

... i think this was everything. it's been roughly a half decade to decade when i last used it. i just mainly remembered "go up 5 levels after every boss, and you'll be fine."
doesn't quite work with every game unless altered to match game mechanics. ex. ff2, ff10.

Been a week since I watched final fantasy legend of the crystals , It was good speaking as non-anime fan that is I think im the only final fantasy fan who isn't into anime its about 2 hours to 1 hour and 45 minutes long things I like are the opening has ff5 main menu theme instant 10/10 right there.

If you played final fantasy 5 you are gonna be watching your descendant go on an adventure of her own just like you do as bartz in ff5 , you get to see a pirate expect its not sea pirate but sky one the old soldier dude feels like the galuf of the team in the show expect he isn't later revealed to be a king.

Some nitpicks I have are its too short and sadly doesn't showcase the world of FF5 that much all you get to see is tycoon and the temple of the wind which is floating in the air in middle of a desert I thought to myself "well wasn't it surrounded by forest? What happened?" , another thing is the tycoon soldiers uniform in FF5 its blue but here its red I guess in 200 years they changed the uniform but would have liked to see the old soldier uniform somewhere , also when did they have a shrine for a Dragon in tycoon? Guess thats something that was built after the game and is the Dragon in the show krile dragon? Since tycoon dies I think after rescuing reina wasn't the dragon supposed to be blue instead of green? And when did they have the ability to shrink and grow into Dragon again? I thought there was only one dragon left in the world since its a specie that went extinct.

I like this sort of 90s graphic for anime over the much more clean looking modern ones its simply more appealing to me , one thing I think that stopped the makers from making the show longer was they didn't want to invest into something that had a chance of failure since its the first TV adaptation of a final fantasy game they probably didn't want to risk it but man wouldn't it be cool if we get to see library of the ancients , mirage village and the fire kingdom I forgot its name? Also you can spot the balcony where king tycoon takes off with the dragon in the beginning of FF5.

Overall keeps the humorous tone of the game but a damn shame its too short ?

yeah, japan takes some phrases a little too literal. "history repeats itself" is true, but it's not supposed to be that literal. some of your questions i can answer; others, i got no explaination.
the forest around the air temple? robo from chrono trigger wasn't there to help maintain it.
soldier uniforms? things do change over time. uniforms and clothing are the most common to change.
no, the dragon didn't have a shrine as far as i remember. it just sat on top of a tower like batman.
i remember the dragon being blue. no clue on it being green. probably just an animation error or miscommunication. it happens.
dragon shrinking and growing wasn't a thing in the game. they just made that up. and yeah, there's only one dragon. it's the last of its kind.
the cartoons are meant to be for the fans; so it does carry a rather high risk of failure if it doesn't make a profit or break even on the budget.
on another note, i remembered an important piece of info for you when you are playing ff3. the final portion of the game when you head to the final dungeon is spread across two dungeons, one with some plot stuff and then there is a final spot for saving and then the final dungeon with several bosses in it.
make sure to be prepared for the trek, you can leave when you want, but the teleport spell won't exit you out to the true entrance. i don't remembering it even working period at that point.

Climate change is real in FF5 ?

Well I won't be playing ff3 anytime soon really but thx for the advice.

Alright after some weeks rest of final fantasy its time to get right into final fantasy , today I start final fantasy tactics to commemorate my first day on my new adventure in getting higher education.

2 thread questions:
1.) Do you consider the bravely default games to be part of the Final Fantasy Series? (personally yes)
2.) rank the ff games you've played go

i don't much about bravely default, but a bit of research showed me that it was meant to be a sequel tro final fantasy: the 4 heroes of light. so, it could be considered a part of the series.
i looked at your tier list: i will refrain form commenting on it.
i will say that 9, 10, 10-2, 12, and tactics advance 1 and 2 are pretty good, so give them a try when you can.

oh i intend to play almost all of the games in the not played section except for Mobius (cant cause its dead and delisted) and maybe not FF3(2D) and FF4(3D)

ff4 for the ds is very good. it adds enough to be a different experience from the other versions. full voice acting for a bunch of moments in the story, a new ability system which let characters gain new abilities, including a few from bosses, a new summon was added in the ds version only, you can set up a rudimentary autobattle system to help with grinding a bit, there's 2 hidden super bosses stronger than the final one, namingway has his on sidequest that spans the entire game, and you can replay the same files 3 times to set up 2 characters with the break damage limit ability to help with the super bosses.
