Final Fantasy Thread

I love this! It reminded me of the blu-ray version of ff legend of the crystals that I put together in a big physical media push I did. Does anyone else remember that OVA for FF5? I used to rent the vhs tapes from the local hollywood video when I was younger. It's not good, but nostalgia means I gave it maybe too much attention. I made a whole handbound art booklet for it and everything.

Yeah! It's like.... 500 years after FFV? I think? It's some huuuuuge time jump, and given how kinda absurd it is, it's hard to really align it back as being part of one of the mainline games hahaha, but I love the terrible pink chocobo design from it, and it's just so goofy

Yeesssss!! I did a deep dive to find art for the art book I made, but I was ecstatic about how nice the version of it on the internet archive is, considering it was only ever vhs, and also so old.

Final-Fantasy-6-Artikelbild-1200x675.jpg

In an interview with Naoki Hamaguchi the game director of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, was asked which classic from the Final Fantasy series he would like to bring back. He chose an RPG hit from the SNES era.

The desire for the return of a SNES classic

If Square Enix granted him the time and resources Hamaguchi would gladly help Final Fantasy 6 to make a comeback in a modern guise. Like many players the game director considers the classic role-playing game originally released for the Super Nintendo in 1994 his favorite of the Final Fantasy series.

Hamaguchi said: "If I had all the time and unlimited resources it would be really cool to remake Final Fantasy 6. It's my favorite title in the main series."

Hamaguchi isn't the only creative mind at Square Enix who has advocated for a remake or return of Final Fantasy 6 in the past. Masaaki Hayasaka the producer of the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is also expressed interest in the classic last fall. According to Hayasaka the HD 2D style would in principle be perfect for a remake of “Final Fantasy 6.”

Rumors of another remake persist

In the past several insiders reported on a possible remake of Final Fantasy 9. Speculation that Square Enix has repeatedly fueled in recent months for example by sharing cryptic hints on social media. An official confirmation of a Final Fantasy 9 remake is still pending.

Final Fantasy 6 is the best game in the franchise, with Final Fantasy 7 taking second place, and FF X a very close third place. I don't know how to feel about a remake though. The FF 7 remake has...issues.

If Hamaguchi really believes that then perhaps I should give a chance to FF7 remake because it will make me assume he wanted to make FF7 more like FF6, not copy paste way but trying to improve the game by using elements from the game he loves, but probably was dragged down by corporate BS to actually develop FF7 in the way in his mind. Yet it means FF7 remake can have potential to be a game I may like because its director is a guy who loves FF6 as I do.

I think 6 could do really well with a remake. Its particularly relevant with Magitek being a great parallel to fossil fuels. I really think it would be an apros pos choice for Square Enix. I'd prefer 3D models instead of doing the 2D-3D effect ala Star Ocean 2nd Story R & Dragon Quest 3.

I would be so down

I'm a little surprised that Final Fantasy 6 is his favorite. I'm excited to see what the future will bring.

FF6 has a great story!
And they will be butchering it in the remake, for sure.
They will butcher it with slop like the did with FF14 and then they will split the game in to 6 part and sell each part for 80 bucks each so you will end up paying 480 bucks for a complete game.

Thanks to FF7 remake selling so well Square has learned that they can make billions on selling 1 game buy splitting in to several parts and they know they can get away with it because they god stupid fans defending it saying each game is like a standalone game hurr durr.

I say I did like FF16 but at least it was not split in to 3 parts nor was it destroyed with slop.

Yeah, I didn't like it either. Too "clean" for me, I like more the pixel art from the original

I was hoping that looked better than what it seemed in the trailers, but yeah... It seemed like they cut corners and used some type of filter to enhance the original assets instead of doing them from scratch in HD. This is why I think Square Enix remakes are trash, usually they are low effort cashgrabs.

Square Enix's pricing has always been outrageous, so i wasn't surprised by the $50 for FF Tactics. People say its worth it, and its got all these improvements, but for $50 i'm not really impressed.

Even if the graphics where "perfect" the game would still be crap thanks to all the cut content (that square enix will totally not sell as DLC soon).

It is really disappointing that SE is choosing to prioritize redoing the original versions over making more "definitive editions" that would encompass bonus contents from later releases. I mean, I have the FF Pixel Remasters just because I like the physicality of owning all the games for Switch, but I find myself gravitating towards the GBA versions with corrected color and enhanced sound as providing a more "definitive" experience since I've never played their added content before.

Fortunately, even if it weren't for the above issues with this FFT, the Suikoden and Lunar re-releases are a higher priority for me right now anyway. Should probably pause my retro hardware acquisitions a bit to make sure I don't miss out on MSRP for those Switch physicals if I haven't already

I am agree on including the original releases of games. Why? because I might not like the changes in later versions or I just don't want the quality of life improvements. Although I would always prefer they included the different versions, so you can choose. Restricting a version in a reboot that was ported without any effort means they just want money from nostalgia.

It's the new business word. 10 years ago they invented "gaming" and sticked to every piece of hardware in order to inflate the price and create a bait for those dumb people who waste tons of money on them. Now is the nostalgia. Which one will be next? :D
