Any news about the Final Fantasy 9 remake we heard of?
i forgot that was a thing.

i did some checking. there are rumors that it might have been cancelled, but it seems unlikely.
i would guess that they aren't very far along enough yet to show anything off to the public yet.

I've been meaning to start FFVIII for a bit now but I honestly have no idea which version I should pick. I like some of the improvements brought by the remastered edition (though to be fair, I feel like most of those could be replicated in duckstation??) but I LOATHE the forced bilinear filtering in the pre rendered backgrounds (though at least it doesn't affect the fonts like in the FFVII port.) What's the generally agreed upon "best way to play" this game as of 2025? ::thinking

i'd say just go with the psx release. maybe one of the hacks that adds in cut content. that would be the best choice.

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. The modern ports for the PSX era games all have these mildly annoying to extremely irritating little issues and are sometimes just plain missing features like analog controls and such, not to mention the censorship with some of the character models in VIII specifically (how come Ifrit is allowed to show bush but Siren isn't?? Double standards, Squenix! :loldog)

All jokes aside though, it's a shame that such an iconic and influential franchise is in this level of disregard with its re releases in modern platforms...

yeah, square enix doesn't seem to like the earlier stuff from square soft. they only give 7 any attention because it sells well. most of the other installments in the series are far more deserving of attention.

Anybody else re-colour Cloud's costume in Lightning Returns to look like farmer's overalls?

The modern port of VII didn't get as much attention as VIII or IX. Also, the only pre-localisation department FF to not have been officially retranslated. They may like VII as an IP. As a game, not so much.

i think that was because the remake game was in development at the time. since the remake came out a year after the switch and xbox one release of ff7 classic, why pour extra effort into that when it could go to the new version?
still not an excuse to skip out on making improvements, especially since there is a pc port, which is basically the complete set of raw data used to make the game, which came out in 2000. they had plenty of time to stick a couple of employees on it and slowly and steadily work on improving and even incorporating new content into the game as well.

Means we won't see it this year ::sadkirby

Good choice idk which version but FF8 is lots of fun you played it before or no?

steadily getting some more work done on my set of final fantasy drawings. i jumped a head a bit with this one. still working on the ff7 drawings. this one is probably one of my favorites in this set.
Final Fantasy IX - Eiko and Mog - BFFs to the End.jpg

eiko is her name.
thanks for the compliment. ::terriermon-happy
Yeeee eiko her idle animation was the best , her attack animation was quite funny and the fact she is armed with flute was nice if i remember she plays the flute to summon/cast spells they put so much character and life into these animations

yeah, she uses the flute.
yeah, there is a lot of attention to detail in the game. i'm planning on playing the pc version with a mod that makes my favorite character, beatrix, playable in the game.

The direction they went with the animation was less bombastic than FF8 but more in line with FF7 animations what to call it? Quirky? Or cartoony style while 8 had more detailed animations that were like super detailed , i think that works very well for what each game sets to do since 9 is very much a throwback to FF1~FF6

what a PC port? Hell how would FF play on PC i cant imagine! Beatrix has to be like the most OP character in the game and in the 1~9 games she is the only person who you never defeat in the game to have her playable would be neat though

ff 1 through 13 have pc and steam ports.
cartoony would be the best way to describe the game; since it's meant to be a throwback to the earlier games, being far more into the fantasy part instead of being more realistic.
beatrix is amazingly awesome. you get to play as her in only one part in the original release and ports; her theme music is remixed into the battle theme for that section. the mod that i read about makes her fully playable from i think the second disc onwards in the story.
you can get her unique weapon in the game, but she is the only one who can equip it.

Bloody hell ports for 13 games? What about 16? No?

Yea 9 for me pretty much occupy same spot as 8 both are great for different reasons.

She is pretty awesome i have her as one of my backgrounds , the chemistry between her and steiner and how by sheer coincidence they got into a relationship , she is pretty OP so Idk how that goes but i guess the mod maker took care to balance things

i think the ports became more standard around 11 and every game afterwards was guaranteed to have a pc port. 16 should have a port as well.
that's weird, i made my own wallpaper of beatrix and it's my current wallpaper right now.
yeah, it's funny that they get together since eiko was trying to get with zidane and she wrote the letter that brought the two of them together.

Well man i can't draw for shit best i could draw was a 2d tank that my father taught me how to draw , and stickmen i drew lots of them with guns , dead etc but to draw a character? No i tried to draw tesla troopers from RA2 ended up looking like a man that has 2 sets of skin.

Ngl the "when the night wears the moon as it's pendant" line in the message was pretty fire

don't worry; i sucked at drawing when i started out too. just keep at it; study other pieces of art and learn from your mistakes. you'll improve before you know it. i can link my drawing of my beatrix wallpaper if you want to check it out. i put three other pics together with it on my newgrounds account.

yeah, that's a fiery line right there.::fire

I recommend the release just for the speed up as well as not having to farm for magic.
There is also quite a few mods for it.

Started a Black & White Mage run, having one of each along with 2 'dead' characters at 0 EXP each. Right now, I am on my way to revisit Astos' castle with the Mystic Key, having raided the Dwarves' place, Coneria, and Elfland's Mystic Key chests already. So far, this run is turning out pretty smoothly, each of my mages has hit level 17 and obtained full lists of spells. My next purchases will be in Melmond, as I'm gonna wait to get any of the Level 4 White Mage spells. There's just nothing that useful to me.

I'm not a huge fan of drawing but thanks for advice i do have vivid imagination so i can conjure up a good image in my mind for let's say an event.

don't worry too much about that. you can always ask others to draw your ideas if need be. people ask me to draw stuff for them over on deviantart quite often.
