Final Fantasy Thread

Trust me you don't want to play this utter piece of garbage called Final Fantasy franchise its a stain on humanity.

I don't know how people keep playing and buying this trash it sold 200 million copies by now like HOW???

Like the games are do bad.... The first game is a mess of a code trying to be a game

The second game tries to have a story but it fails misreably

The third game is a failed attempt at trying to fix the first game by adding a job system like they cant even get the name right instead of calling it classes they call it jobs like????

The fourth is a disaster and argubly the biggest disaster since WW2 that befell humanity like it doesn't even have a mini map...

The fifth game tries to fix the gameplay by adding the job should be called class system but it ends up being a mesh mash of poorly coded and balanced abilities and a story so forgetabble that it gets swept under the rug all the time

The sixith game has the worst villian ever written like he is a clown and he is a bad one he cant even do jokes right he is literally a useless worthless pile of colored meat.

The seventh game is even a worse disaster than the 6th it cant even load the overworld until near 8 hours of gameplay and not to mention magic is restricted by colored balls that fail at adding anything gameplay wise , not to mention the poorly made limit breaks that were first introduced in this game it removes any challenge.

The eigth game is a half assed piss poor attempt at romance driven game literally unplayable.

The ninth game has you play as an annoying insufferable monkey who keeps simping over a dumb princess who doesnt even like him.

And if you thought this torment ends boy wait until you play Final Fantasy tactics its the combination of all of the above but made 10 times worse with 1998 game of thrones kid friendly version , and a gameplay so bad it makes you sigh everytime you play it like they tried to mix strategy with RPG and add their shit job system and what you end up is this unholy piece of awful game.

Oh and it doesnt end here the protags are made with worst qualities in any human the 4th game has you play as a war criminal with self image issues , the 6th game has you play as a green haired teenage girl like WHO IN HIS RIGHT MIND THOUGHT MAKING YOU PLAY AS A GREEN HAIRED TEENAGE GIRL IS A GOOD IDEA????? Oh she also doesnt know jack shit and has self esteem issues the whole game , the 7th game has you play a delelu loser who larps as a elite soldier he is so useless his lover dies in front of his eyes and he does nothing , the 8th game has you play as an autistic kid.

I been playing for near 7/8 months these games not because i like them i just want to see will they ever get good but they never do , i know this asshole IRL who thinks square (the ones behind this mess) are master craftsmen who create the best RPGs ever , he is just that stupid that he thinks these games are worth anything..... More than belonging to the trash.

They cant even get the charcters right the dude in the poster of the first game is supposed to be this stupid warrior guy and its been near 40 years and despite all the remakes and re-releases they still cant draw his armor correctly to be in line with the cover art like do you expect them to a good game if they cant even fix this detail???

Everytime i finished one of these games i tear up not because i loved the game and finished a great adventure no because i figure i had the strength to go through these piles of trash and sink 50 hours in each one.

Everytime i beat one i end up feeling empty afterwards not because i beaten a great game but because i know i wasted another month playing a series with games that never get good but i keep expecting them to do like an idiot....

Everytime i beat one of the Final Fantasy games i get the urge to jump from the window so i can forget the memory about me playing this heresy.... All in all never play Final Fantasy trust me it will make your life worse.

Are you okay?

mfw all these bustas hating on my beloved FF3

I never played it but I love the storybook aesthetic. One of my favorite looking DS games for sure.
I feel like a remake on switch would be perfect for it. A cozy game to pick up and play for a little bit while in bed after a long day or something along those lines.

I forgot the reason but I couldn't get into it at all despite wanting to like it. Something to do with the combat
It handles combat very differently from other Final Fantasy games. It’s turn based but instead of MP you just have energy orbs that you manage by attacking and defending.

I played 4 Heroes of Light at release but remember so little about it. I also love the artstyle, though - I should go back and replay it.

At the moment I've re-playing FFIV on the PSP using a difficulty patch I found on gamefaqs. It was a thread on here about the best versions of FFIV a few weeks ago that reminded me I had downloaded this patch in the past and never got around to trying it. I'm only up to the bit where the twins join you, but so far it seems really well-balanced - makes the game harder, but not excessively so like a lot of fan-made difficulty patches.

First jrpg l played in japanese pretty fun jrpg!
Sadly l think bravely default has overshadowed it so its probably never getting a re release.
nowadays it is, but it was quite popular back in the day; and it even surprised the higher up as square enix buy selling well and being well received by gamers. they actually thought that people wouldn't want an old school kind of game to play.

Haven't read through all 40 pages but has FF13 been shit on yet?
Not enough if so. Worst game in the series by far.
Only good thing about 13 was we could no longer say 8 was the worst main line entry.
(10 is the best, in my opinion).

somewhat; mainly by me. i had 7 as the worst until 13 came along. 8 never got remotely enough time to finish cooking. it was supposed to be 8 discs long; and it's barely 3 and a half discs long upon release.

Interesting, I never knew that. That helps to explain some things with that mess.
I mainly disliked the story with 8, but 13 was just a mess all over; combat, story, characters, pacing, everything.

I replayed back in japanese like 5 years ago.
I have played worse jrpgs to be honest l really like the combat and the music.
The story and characters are pretty lame though l do like lightning.

yeah, there's quite a bit of irony there.
8 had 1 year to be made, starting with the tail end of 7's development and coming out the next year. 13 had 5 years to develop, and was planned to be a trilogy from the beginning; and it is the worst game in the series. i somehow managed to get through it and i haven't played it since. everything baring the graphics and 4 characters, is utter garbage. i spent the last part of the game mashing the a button while swapping the tv over to watch cartoons; only watching the game when a cutscene played.
-infinity/infinity.

The most offensive thing in 13 was how it just dropped you in the story all of a sudden, and the second you get to move you're dropped a massive wiki document of relevant and irrelevant information to the game and the world.
Least intuitive worldbuilding I've ever seen. It's just incredible how they had the gall to do it.

i remember finding the database thing around chapter 8 and i just could not be bothered to read it. i don't mind if some stuff is put into one for later reference; but i think peace walker spoiled me on world and lore building with the cassette tapes where the characters would chat with each other. it was nicely done and well handled on informing the player about various events and characters in the game.

Yeah codexes are fine if they're handled well and develop organically, but in 13 it was just like twenty articles of weird scifi shit that made no sense out of context, right after a wacky high-speed cutscene where you hijack a train or whatever.

Just abysmal.

i think the most egregious part of the entire story is that there is only a single line of text in the game that hints that there is supposed to be sequels to the first game. and it's in an optional side quest that most players probably wouldn't have done since it unlocks i think it was fairly late into the end game.

Personally I think it insulted me more with trying to get me to feel for all these characters in a random attack and then on a most wanted list in the span of 2hours (no Hope hate from me I felt for the poor kid plus best mage) and then because of plot of persona non grata from no fault of their own protags removed the world building of talking to people or shopping and expect me to get my fix from pages to read and quests from floating stones of failed warriors?! And we can't forget the initial reviews calling it a hallway simulator and what do you get after all those confined spaces and dungeons? OPEN SPACE OF NOTHING!

yeah, they need to work on the pacing in a story. it's a fairly common tactic to open a story with an action scene but it's not always warranted. the first instalment of my favorite movie series Tremors, takes about 15 minutes or so to get to an action scene. [i haven't timed it, but i think that is how long it takes to get to it] they spend that time not only building up the characters, but adding tension to the story as well. keeping this in line with final fantasy, ff4 - 6 do a fantastic job of setting up some intrigue and introducing some of the characters that you will be hanging out with for the next few dozen hours.
i do think the stone statues are an interesting idea, but like everything else in the game, it's handled so poorly. and you are introduced to these at chapter 11, 2 chapters before the end. as soon as i beat the game, i didn't continue playing, so there were at least a couple of dozen of those quests left unfinished.
i actually started paying attention to the game when i got to the open areas, mainly because most of the enemies were almost one shotting my characters and i actually had to pay attention and input commands on a frequent basis.
found out later from doing one of those statue quests that there was a whole ass training area behind where you spawn in at the beginning of the chapter. had no idea since most of the maps in the game are hallways and any branching path ends in a dead end the second that you see it on the mini map. i just assumed that it would curve off slightly to the right and have a chest sitting on the ground; so it would not be worth checking out.

That also pissed me off was how fast they green lit a sequel while 12 was only given a DS title to tell a limped story and landlock me into classes I didn't build from the original PS2 title.

Putting that aside I think what really drove my blind hatred at the time to swear off Square for years was how they seemed to really push Lightning as the next Cloud. Moody, sword, spike hair, deep secrets of self loathing of past mistakes wait was that Squall too? Come on let's try to get a new face, I enjoyed FFX-2's Yuna and how more lively and forward she became after the events of FFX we can handle happy protags! There's also the shadow Lighting casted over the cast which is typical of JRPGS there's only one main protag that is the lead and face of the game but it felt like Aki from FF Spirits Within in that they wanted an exchangeable digital actress to suit their needs to plop into projects instead of being a fleshed character. They already had her lined up for her next movie so don't be too attached and don't give her too much personality we need her flexible so she's not pigeon holed for the next role.

The first attack we see, the sheep farmer? The scene starts almost exactly at 15:00!
really?
huh, it does not feel like 15 minutes to get to that. i was thinking more of when we see the first monster when val and earl are riding across the desert on horseback. that felt more like the first action scene.
that is still a good scene though, the slow build up; the music.
i think i would say that Tremors is probably the most perfectly made movie to ever exist. every scene adds to the story and doesn't feel or come across as unnecessary.
