Final Fantasy Thread

I don't know if someone is interested...
ff v: north of torna canal access there is a section where you can fight 3 bandersnatch... getting 3 ap for the battle.
at first, you need some levels to face them, so grinding ap for some hours is not an inconvenience.

My fav early game grind spot.

I'm just glad they're making things like Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest now.
I actually really enjoy the HD-2D stuff
Mmm... for some reason octopath traveler,
is just square saying:
"we are trying to redeem with the first romancing saga".
they did it.

you're referring to the secondgame with firion, right?
Sometimes... like to grind and farm in ff II.
relaxing, at least. and for research purposes.

XIV is tolerable up until about DT I would say but the modern games just aren't the same thing, Yoshi-p is obsessed with trying to westernize everything and frankly FF16 just plays like a very mediocre version of DMC that doesn't know what it wants to be. It has a good story with great voice actors but other than that it's just a more action orientated movie game, in my opinion. 15 I haven't really given much time, I like the aesthetic but I've not played it.

It might be nostalgia but after going back to 13 I really don't hate it as much as I used too, the same goes for 12. It's flawed, they have problems and things I don't like about them but at least they still feel somewhat like old Square rather than the modern take they have.
I used to play FFXIV, until my sub ran out. I did finish Endwalker but I stopped on 6.3.

My first FF is 8. I had a screen saver on pc and I could not believe Squall was a man.

Story: I had seen the boxed edition for pc in a shop that sold videotapes, I remember I had looked at it for a long time, reading the plot behind, admiring the images, but I didn't own a pc (nor a console). After some time I got a pc (and someone gave me that screensaver on a floppy) and, after a first gaming experience with Tomb Raider 2, I went to a videogame shop to choose another game and... well, when I saw that boxed edition I said "I want this one". And I have very good memories :)

I also got the official guide (borrowed at school), and I was amazed at looking at it, and I was glad to be able to 100% the game (I remember playing the card game to keep winning Gilgamesh card because I was turning it into... elixir or some powerful potion).

What's everyone's opinion on the Pixel Remasters? I've only tried 1, 3 and 5, and aside from them being sort of ugly (particularly the mixels where menus and in-game stuff have different pixel density) I think they're mostly fine. Much of the new music is fantastic, and I kind of like how they omit the "extra content" from earlier remakes so that it's more just a modern way to play a more original version of the games.
They're kind of overpriced though, I feel.
if i remember correctly, projared has a quick video on the pixel remasters. it seems like of the effort for the games was spent on FFVI. all of the spell effects and animations were the same ones used in FFVI just copy and pasted onto the other five games.

Ironically, FF6 old port with Brave Steel mod looks way better than Pixel Remaster anyway... FF5 with PSP style sprites is also good. Older ports are harder to get to run and set up properly but graphics are just better, you can even mod them to use original ones, but fanmade HD sprites are just fantastic.

Another good option is to play the Free Enterprise or Worlds Collide randomizer mods. Another fun way to re-experience FF4 and FF6.

i have ff4 pixel on my wish list for the switch, but i have more fun with the older versions; nostalgia [FF4 psx and gba], more content [gba, ds, psp], awesome voice acting and script in the 3d version. tons of hacks for the snes version. i wish i could find a way to edit rydia's sprite so she had red hair, i think she would look very cute. it would also be awesome to change the other character's color pallets too.

You can change the characters color palette with the Randomizer tool. You only get 6 color schemes to play with but it is possible to get whatever hair color you'd like.

The FF4 randomizer is called FF4 Free Enterprise. The Link is: https://ff4fe.com/

Unfortunately, it looks like it doesn't allow you to set color schemes for the characters.
oh well. i'll find something out there for that. i'll check out the ff6 one. i've only played the game once for a few hours. terra and celes would look quite lovely with some crimson locks. thanks for letting me know about it.

Reached the surface world in FF3 today and got the jobs from the water crystal.
I really like the 3D models in this game, Yoshida's art translates fantastically in the different armor designs. They have such a good "fairy-tale" feel to them.

Im currently trying todo the postgame stuff for ff5 (gba version) , anyone know any good build for omega and shinryu?

There are some new classes in the GBA version that muddy the waters, but there's probably nothing better than a party two freelancers and two mimics with a bunch of classes mastered. X-fight for your physical attackers and X-magic for your spellcasters.

xfight and xmagic? what are those in the gba version?

Equipment like ribbons, fire, coral and angel rings.
anti-dragon weapons (dragon lance or dragon's whisker).

Not only about rapid fire or dualcast. be well prepared with all the elixirs you can and have good reflexes, in case of using phoenix downs.
one of the post-game bosses, is no joke.

the other one, is more about luck and careful planning when to attack. all-or-nothing, if you want some risk and reward, because that boss can be healed, when you are applying the wrong element.

another possible equipment... reflect rings.
a healer, summoning (optional), time magic, zeninage is not recommended (replace with another skill), blue magic (can avoid some headaches).
jumping can help you with not suffering a fatal blow (or total defeat and turn the tables in your favor).
revive from chemist can help too.

anyway... every mastered job -counts-,
making a good difference and conquering them.

master as many jobs that you can. the mimic and freelancer classes become broken due to the extra boosts that they get from fully mastered classes. dual-wielding becomes an innate ability after learning everything in the ninja class, you get a small boost in magic stats from the mage classes and there's a lot more perma buffs from the other classes.

The DS/PSP remake of Final Fantasy 3 is the right way to approach a remake. Keep the original story as faithful as possible but add more personality to the main cast. Wish they had kept this approach going forward (cough Rebirth).
