Such weird timing, I just got off the phone with him *minutes ago*, rambling about Primus opening for Rush on tour and what a sweetheart Les Claypool is.

Genuinely starting to worry you are my father, and I'm getting elaborately pranked.
Now, I don't want to alarm you, but Rush is genuinely my favorite band of all time.

So it's been fun, RetroGameTalk, I'll see myself out!
This has truly been an uncanny and cosmic series of exchanges.
Real talk though, your dad seems like a swell guy, at least as far as music tastes and calling his child goes!

I'm very tired of the crossovers. It's like Wizards has no faith in the game design and lore of Magic the Gathering anymore. An occasional crossover with something thematically compatible is fine, such as the medevil Final Fantasy games or Lord of the Rings, but what in the cinnamon toasted FUCK are Fortnite and Transformers doing in here!?

As much as I like the Final Fantasy crossover, I couldn't care less about Marvel, Transformers or whatever else they are doing.

Edit: I enjoyed the Dungeons and Dragons and Lord of the Rings crossovers too.

Damn, the artwork for Chaos looks great:

Dude I'm so excited, I'm probably gonna end up buying the starter kit and bundles which is something I very rarely do for TCGs even though I play a lot of them

MTGA is a money grab. No mater how good you actually are, you will hit that paywall before you reach the top, and hard. Most players at that level simply rage-quit when confronted with a loss, or the game will "unexpectedly" crash from too many wins without paying some real cash.

And if you can get past that, it just becomes stale- playing against the same 3 meta decks, with an unfair "shuffler". At that point, you will lose. Promises!

i always rocket as high the game lets me, then i just lose. I don't pay real money, and I never will.
Lots of isolated MTG paper players- Wizards knows this, and seems to only support those that pitch in.

Yeah, I played Arena for a while because I couldn't afford to keep up with paper anymore. It is 10 times worse than playing paper magic. Heartstone, despite being a much worse card game, is a lot better of a digital card experience because it is easier to shift your collection around and build decks. I had to grind for several months in Arena to build up enough wildcards to build one deck. And even after that, the shuffler algorithm is crap. I swear in paper I rarely get as mana screwed as I do in Arena. I paid a few times just to start out and kept playing free to play cause I refuse to give them money for such a subpar product.

I saw a quote by MTG outrightly saying that will continue until sales increase.

That's pretty cool, maybe i should finally get around to learn how to play MTG.
It's fun, but get ready to spend lots of money if you do... I spent so much money to feed my cardboard crack addiction back in the day ;_; I started playing when dissension came out, and stopped around zendikar.

I started seeing quality drop after "odyssey Block." They actually brought back Richard Garfield for the original "Innistrad", and that was amazing.
But then they keep alienating older players- fundamental rules changes, release month card bans......the list is neigh endless. Only to bring back some of those old cards in the endless saturation of sets that get put out.

My brother is both a gigantic MTG and Final Fantasy nut, and he seems really disenchanted with all these crossover promotions they're doing now, because they're all gonna be part of standard play or whatever, so he feels the whole setting starts to feel diluted due to it "becoming the Fortnite of TCGs".

I have no opinion myself other than that I like the card art. I've only ever dabbled in YGO.
That is true. They have said "Universes Beyond", as they are called will become part of standard.

I sold most of my cards when I decided to stop playing but still have a few old ones.

My favorites still in my collection are the full art Zendikar lands. Just beautiful to look at.

I also like my signed Kargan Dragonlord card. I really like the art and thought it was going to be a busted card. It really wasn't, lol.

I totally feel you Strategist. I actually sold all my MTG cards forever ago because I simply didn't care about Magic anymore, but I do have fun with the occasional starter kits. Hope they do the same for this.

I love Final Fantasy, but the crossovers are starting to get a bit out of hand. I do think you could have much worse fits for MTG than FF (Transformers was one) but it's just so distracting. I also hate how broken some of the cards actually sound.

Besides, as far as I can tell best Final Fantasy was left out entirely. :( Where the hell is my Bobby Corwen card?

Well, this is Magic The Gathering in 2025. Every card is ridiculously broken.

They've said that every numbered Final Fantasy will be represented, except spinoffs and remakes. I doubt Bobby makes it in the set, but Boko will absolutely be a card.

I mean it's become pretty OP, but some of these cards are broken even for that. The simplest example being Cactuar. There's so many ways to make it unblockable and protect it, especially if it's the win condition the deck is built around. And being in green? It'll be way too easy dropping that on turn four and swing through immediately for an instant win.

It does cost 7 mana though. There are plenty of 6/7 mana busted fatties in green. I don't think it sees play in standard outside of a OTK combo because it doesn't have any protection.

God, do Commander precons really cost $60-70 USD now??? I remember when they were $40ish back when I played. The things I do for Final Fantasy X... Thankfully all I'll need is the single Commander deck to play with friends, I'm chill beyond that.

Wish the Final Fantasy TCG itself was more popular in the states, feels like SE gave up on it right away and its just been kept afloat by a solid EU and JP scene.

Where can I view all the cards online?
