FFX-3 could work as a game.

If they completely rewrite the book.

Decided to pull myself out of the rut and finish my solo FFT challenge, since my Swordless Lttp run is on hiatus and I just have a really annoying and tedious thing to do in order to progress.

That said, I've been making waves, huge ones. I was at Riovanes trying to figure out what the fuck to do about Rafa dying. After killing Wiegraf as a
  • Chemist
  • Summoner
  • Archer
And having to leave the castle entirely and lose all my JP and EXP up to the point when I left again for the 2nd time to grind Chemist/Oracle/Summoner skills I finally have all the sideskills I needed to beat Wiegraf and deal with Marquis Elmdor.

The roof battle I decided to throw White Magic on my Squire and cast Protect on Rafa while standing in front of Celia, this prevented her from instantly killing Rafa and instead opt to cast Ultima on her instead; after getting a little lucky, Rafa survived the spell and the hit before from Elmdor's samurai skill (fucking edgelord) and I was able to end the battle, albeit without learning Ultima.

Now I've just been grinding a lot, mostly at Mandalia Plain and Sweegy Woods, so far the only place I can recommend for a solo Summoner to level grind. Got some Oracle levels too, so now I have a decent side skillset that can replenish MP and HP as well as petrify anyone who becomes a problem (mainly skellies and chocobos).

Speaking of Chocobos..
Finath River is the worst
I tried over and over and over repeatedly just to try to have even a chance at winning, and with Black and Red Chocobos popping up everywhere it looked grim.

Then I got lucky when I was messing around with an experimental Squire setup and somehow that triggered a battle with only Yellows, which I grit my teeth and got through, using Ramza's special self-only buff which increases Brave, Speed, Physical and Magical attack. With Regen from the Chantage I'd just stolen from Meliadoul (a ridiculously easy and unnoteworthy battle) I could Chakra myself if I got too low, and otherwise just wait in the corner and shout at myself to 'Git gud, idiot'.

Once they got to around 350-400 per attack, I decided my strength was "good enough" and finished off the 6 or so chocobos.

Now, to go with my new perfume, I have a new sword solely to parry attacks with, a fancy new ice gun, a sword solely to make me go faster, and some other great shit I robbed an old man from before kicking him to the curb. On my way now to a castle which sounds like a lingering poop particle remnant on the anus to go attack a guy for looking at me funny and demand his concubines teach me new magic.

bit of an update on my game progress:
i've captured most of the monsters from the pre airship areas
i went back and collected all the destruction spheres, and acquired anima. had to use yojimbo to instant kill dark valefor and dark shiva.
now im collecting the celestial weapons. currently grinding through blitzball to get wakka's weapon.

I loved FFX when it came out I played the hell out of it.
But I dont think I've played it in 20+ years. When I play an old FF its always 1-9.
Maybe its time

My absolute favorite game of all time! On a very personal level it was the last game I played with my dad before he passed when I was 7. He was a complicated dude, I've always had very mixed feelings with him. Tidus and Jecht's relationship in that game strongly mirrors how I view me and my old man and growing up everytime I replayed the game I'd peel back new layers of both the in-game storyline and my own personal relationship to my father both at the time and as a growing teen/adult.

It is such a powerful and complete storyline in one of the most well realized and unique worlds video games as a medium have to offer. There was nothing like it before it released and there will never be anything like it. It helps that its combat system is also one of the sickest in all of turn based RPGs, with a progression system that is super intuitive but allows for so much depth that every playthrough can feel different. It has such wonderfully designed encounters, with basic enemies doing a great job at encouraging use of different party members in a simple yet satisfying "match element/weapon type weakness" fashion. Meanwhile every boss is designed like a unique puzzle, with depth and variety you rarely see in turn based RPGs. To this day FFX's encounter design has spoiled so many other RPGs because comparatively they all feel soulless and basic (looking at you SMT).

I'll always scorn Square Enix's mediocre remaster. Certainly a good enough version to play if someone has no alternatives, but emulation or OG PS2 hardware is a much better experience.

I feel I should play the original version one day. I played the HD Remaster and kept with it between PS3 and PS Vita, finishing it on the latter. But man, the models in there always felt so much off.
Even so, I gotta say: while the ending felt emotional with good story and characters, man...I liked the combat system a lot and the atypical growth system, it's all very satisfying. But exploration and those minigames (especially Blitzball) are my bane.

But I don't want to level up a million characters 😭 .

I kinda want to get viii but then I remember that I'll probably not like it
Well... You don't have to! FF8 is not centralised into level grinding, like, let's say 6 and 7 did with Espers/Materia. Sometimes game itself doesn't give you any EXP at all, leven doesn't matter, but you're abilities and how you put them is!
The only thing that is worth lvl up to IMO is GFs, which by level up gives you many buffs.

I've been exploring a number of archived sites from GeoCities. I found a site that is an incredible resource at the time for Final Fantasy VI information. Truth be told, a lot of websites from Geocities that are about video games tend to be involved in one of four categories:
1. Squaresoft RPGs
2. Fighting Games
3. Nintendo 64 Games
4. Computer FPS games
Also, there's a few old rom sites we have preserved, but their links are long dead.
Anyway, here's the Final Fantasy!

Never make lists dear elwiwi NEVER EVER MAKE LISTS AGAIN THIS WAS PAINFUL TO LOOK AT

But good choice on FF5 being that high

i'd make a tier list, but it would probably just piss everyone off.
so if i do ever make one, i'll probably make a joke one.

Do it 👁️👄👁️ make the FF fans cry
i'll do it in a little bit. i'll check out the site first, and see if i need to get stuff like my own images to upload or if they provide that kind of stuff.
