Never played this and its on the repo

Just tried the "Nettou" SNK & Takara series on Game Boy emulator and man, I was fucking blown away with how great they are. Especially on their Samurai Spirits/SamSho games, they're heaps better than the original NG games thanks to the additional story content. Heck even the Toshinden one is great and at least better than the first 2 arcade games.

The few players that still play on Tekken 7 have 10k hours and WILL demolish you especially if you are a beginner (after queuing for +15 minutes minimum, taking into account smurfing just requires you to delete a save file, which many of them do to wreck beginners). Would not recommend playing Tekken 7 unless you have friends to do it with.
Man, I ran into this in Soul Calibur 6. I bought it on Steam sale back when most players had ditched it in favor of other, newer or more hyped games. And there’s no one to play with (online). It’s not just that there aren’t any beginners (for my rank) - the game couldn’t find any players for me at all! And my first real battle in the Soul Calibur 6 ranked mode was against some guy who had racked up 18,000 points on Maxi, and after about an hour of fighting, I only managed to win one match (probably because that guy went to dinner) A few times I won 2 out of 5 matches against him, and I often managed to take down 70%+ of his health. But to win 3 out of 5 rounds? That only happened once.

I was really happy with the match, it was better for my progress than playing with CPU at the highest difficulty! But when you have to wait so long to experience it again...

Long story short, I saw a sale the other day, picked up Tekken 7 and Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, and started remembering the past a bit (offline). I haven't played these games since the days of DOA2/T5, and my thumbs are already sore from Tekken 7 ;D

Wait... there has been SNK handheld games outside of the NG Pocket?
Still got my copy in mint condition.
And I've lost mine (well, technically it was my parent's as they got a bunch of games on the Japanese Wii, Shiren 3 and Metal Slug Collection included)...

At least emulation isn't hard.

Yes, and ironically they're also commonly considered better than the original games as well, only a bit below NGP and NGPC games qualitywise but they predate that handheld so it's pretty much a given.

Personally IMHO SamSho 3 > Toshinden > WH2J = SamSho = RBS >>> FF2 > 95 > 96
The KOFs are garbage IMHO, the AI wasn't hard and easily exploited and the gameplay are basically the same despite being quite fast for GB. Better play the OG games instead, cause the only thing of note is just Nakoruru's inclusion as a secret character in 95 which is the first SamSho rep before Hanzo in MI2. OTOH the SamSho games are just absolute win with many extra features like bonus new characters + extended story included at the expense of bloody gore, SS3 even had fullcolor 8-bit event CGs for prologue and ending thanks to SGB and ACTUALLY. RECORDED. WIN LINES. IN A FUCKING GAMEBOY. ::omgdoom

I’ve been somewhat getting back into the budokai 3 competitive scene.

Yo Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution rocks! Virtua Fighter plays quite differently from all other FG's I've played before, even tho Its just the CPU which is hella good in this game. When are all the other fighting games gonna copy quest mode?

I need to do that Quest Mode just for fun

And Soul Calibur II's Weapon Master Mode

I like when a fighting game has a mode just so you can try every characters and go to every levels in a natural way without necessarily going through arcade with each character all the time (kinda like Subspace Emissary in Smash Bros Brawl).

I was in the mood for some nostalgia, and decided to play Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS5. This game is still so much fun to play and look at. As much as I like SFV now, IV still looks so much better and has a consistent art style with character models. I decided to play as Sakura and do an arcade run. I managed to finish Seth off with an Ultra Combo. UCs can be a pain in the ass to do some time, depending on who you're playing as, or if you have an actual arcade stick.

My only problem with this game is there are not many bonus modes, and no survival mode for whatever reason. Something they brought back in V, but went missing again in VI. I heard 3Ds has one button/touch screen supers. I might get the 3DS version for cheap to add that to my collection and play the game on the go.

Good thing there's a LP+MP+HP and LK+MK+HK shortcut button on a gamepad because I only throw a UC like 1 time out of 5 when doing them individually.

The 3DS version is impressive for what it was (albeit less impressive than Alpha 2 on the GBC and Alpha 3 on the GBA imo).

I can almost never get the kick variations to work though. I might have to change the short cut to face buttons to get something working.

The first Alpha game is the only Alpha game to appear on GBC. That said, I find all three equally impressive. Can't forget about Alpha 3 MAX on PSP.

I see. Maybe because of the analog shoulder buttons?

My bad, I dunno why I was thinking of 2.

Alpha 3 Max despite the resolution is my preferred way of enjoying SFA3 mostly because of the roster (minus Hilda which I would love to get a mod to remove her from the game lol).

Crawfish games are good devs.

I just tested using the face buttons for the combinations, and I am able to ultras much more consistently on kicks especially. Punch supers I am able to do so without the single button combination dedication, but I am going to use both any way Thanks again for the suggestion.

You mean Igrid. I never hated the character, but I wasn't enthralled with her either. At least SFVI is giving her the proper glow up. My older brother calls her a flower child! AHAHAHAHA! For him, it's more of an insult than terms of endearment. He never knew the character existed until now. He did not apperciate Ryu getting his butt kicked by her in the gameplay video. Or at least, someone that weird looking/magical girl. He still willing to give her chance. I did explain her backstory and origins to him.

Back on topic: I prefer Alpha 3 MAX or the Capcom Fighting Collection #2 with the most recent updates that has all of the 3 MAX characters. Still no Reverse Dramatic Battle, but I can live with that. I got an RG35XXH, so I can the PSP version any time with save states.

Weren't she doing command grabs as well as being a zoner? Unless I mis-remember her moveset.

I still prefer Rose as the "woman with superpower" character in the Alpha series.

I couldn't tell you because I barely ever played, as the character.

Rose or Menat I find so much and interesting. The problem with ingrid is that she was just an Athena clone. While SF6 does give her her classic costume back, her new design works really well, and they changed her for the better to differentiate herself from the other magical women.

I've said that she doesn't fit SF that much imo...

Yes, people have superpowers but she feels like she got overpowered powers that even Bison nor Gill could fight against.

It's funny that she's a clone of a SNK character when C.Viper and Kolin are also like them but they still have that Capcom feel.
