Fighting Game Central

Seeing how modern AAA fighting games are nowadays I am fine going back to some obscure and semi-obscure doujindie fighting games:

I’ve been doing exactly this. I’ve recently gone back to playing arcane heart which used to be my favorite series. It’s immensely fun.

Also nice umineko and EFZ mentions!

'm curious about why you want injustice to rot? nothing against it, what was it you didn't like specifically?
It's more on the storyline side.
They killed off a bunch of good characters for no good reason, for one. And also Harley Quinn just joining the good guys after nuking millions of people and playing it off afterwards.

Timeless classics such as:

I get it, it was pretty bad if you didn't ignore the bad story and weird decisions made by not being distracted by it being a DC focused fighting game. Mortal Kombat vs DC wasn't received very well at all and that tried to do a more accurate version of DC comics if I recall correctly. NetherRealm definitely aren't the team for that.

Shazam got the worst death though, he got heat visioned to death by superman(that would not have worked on him at all, let alone killed him ::sailor-embarrassed), they also killed off raven who's a massively popular character. I agree wholeheartedly with you. They also butchered Ravens voice by laying an overlay on it so that it was the Raven in teen titans voice actress, but someone at nether realm thought "not edgy or cool enough", so it got doctored to sound very odd. It reeks of trying to appeal to a market that honestly doesn't exist anymore, edge lord stuff is laregly seen as cringe for the most part.

That all being said, Mortal Kombat was the OG edgy and Gorey fighting game for the cool kid type vibe in the early 90's and the thought process behind that is still there in nether realm but it really doesn't suit a DC comics focused fighting game, it may have worked better as a pure batman game. What is Ironic though is how well the street fighter devs managed to capture the X-men way back in 94, they carried that into Street fighter alpha and made a few things better. Marvel fans ate good for 30+ years when it came to fighting games if you don't count MVC Infinite, Tokon is a course correction though and I'd honestly prefer a game without the capcom characters at this stage.

Something that really bothers me about the Guilty Gear series is them never bringing back Dr. Baldhead. I mean come on, he's part of the original 13, like did they really have to do him dirty like that? I wanna know how his character developed over time.

this video's a good rundown on the whole Tekken 8 situation. I feel bad for the Tekken community.
Why are modern fighting game devs so obsessed with over simplifying their games? Strip away enough layers in the name of accessibility and eventually you'll be left with nothing.

I really miss Dramatic Battle and is something I wish they brought back into Street Fighter 6.
As much as they were unbalanced (2v1 and that the genre is made with 1v1 in mind) I like it.

I absolutely love EX 3 casually bringing up a 1v3 battle in its Arcade Mode like it's a Smash Bros game

To make up for it, in SFA1, SFA2G, and Ultra Street Fighter II, both players share the same health meter and bosses hit hard, but USFII has the worst fail state by automatically sending you to the game over screen with no chance to continue. Alpha 3 Upper Dash and MAX at least allow both players to have their own health meters. In the Saturn and PSP versions, you get Reverse Dramatic Battle, where it is 1 player vs. 2CPU opponents, and it almost turns into a semi-brawler depending on who you play as, and what type of Super meter you have equipped. I love it! Even though the influence is clearly from the SFII: Animated Movie, The Alpha games Dramtatic Battle were just copying the two player mode in the first Fatal Fury. Where if a second player jumps in, both player would fight the boss before facing each other.

I really got to get a copy of that at some point. Looks insane.

Is this true that to some Street Fighter EX was more of a true "Street Fighter 3" than the eponymous game as Arika's staff were ex-Street Fighter II devs (pun intended)?

Not really. No one was really saying that back then or now. I don't know which people were saying what, but they're in a very small minority. Everyone I knew or seen always considered EX a non-canon spinoff. Yet is canon for the Arika owned characters. Hence Fighting Layer EX. Which makes the SF characters more like guest characters in their own spin-off franchise when you stop and think for a while.

Got it.

I just read that people complained about SFIII being 2D in an era where 3D was the trendy thing to do on consoles (and Tekken being the new big name in the genre).

I still love EX' mechanics and how you can cancel a super into another.
