Tekken and The King of Fighters are my favourite series but, the Street Fighter Alpha series and 3rd Strike are great too.

Mmm...I'd say complex characters like Jin up to Tekken 5, and his whole internal conflict have always resonated with me, as well as his tragic heroic narrative up to that point. He was reserved, brooding and single-minded yet wasn't necessarily edgy or misanthropic at this point. He had a bit more intrigue to him, I think.

Ryu is my favourite representation of classical, traditional martial artist type. He captures the ethos and spirit of fighting games as a genre and as a community in a way that is antiquated but doesn't feel old or cliche.


The cast of KOF and just SNK games in general, unlike the very archetypal or cinematic and dramatic character archetypes of other franchises, feel more just like regular people. They also got mad drip ngl. There's something refreshingly grounded about them. Shermie is my favourite.


From the Alpha series, I like Rose's design and character a lot, even if her gameplay isn't all that interesting until SFV. Sakura's bright and childlike energy really captures the spirit of Alpha 2 very well.


Makoto, Dudley, Feng Wei, are all stellar representations of their respective martial arts (Shotokan, boxing and wushu respectively) in a way that fits perfectly with the ethos and mechanics of their games of origin as well.

I see this as an absolute win, humiliating meta player with "low tier" characters is part of the charm, they often underestimate you.
