Favourite First Level in a game?

I'm particularly fond of Angel Island Zone in Sonic 3. Knuckles knocking Sonic out of his Super form is quite a message to send to the player about Knuckle's strength. Not to mention, the music of Angel Island changing its sense of urgency from Act 1 to Act 2 after the island catches fire makes it all a very memorable set piece to open the game with.

(Sonic really has some great openings!)

I thought it was Strider for half a second.

No other level in SM64 hits as hard for me as Bob-Omb battlefield, it's still fun but that first level it's always been the most fun and cohersive to me

Osman was an unofficial sequel to Strider. Many of the same ex-Capcom staff worked on both.

If I had to pick one I say Green Hill Zone from the first Sonic game.

the first two hours of ff16 i consider a first level and whoooo it was so good. that 2 hour demo convinced me to buy the game.

i was bamboozled by how tame and boring the rest of the game was
