Favorite gun in gaming?

I'm a big fan of 2033 and it do think it's better to start there; the sequels build-off of both its story and its mechanics.
Excellent! Thank you
New Vegas' Gauss rifle is guilty of all that ::nervous-prinny

The modding community has stepped up and added really nice reload animations for the Gauss. I wish this kind of detail was typical for non-standard weapons
They had to step up - Bethesda is... ">:(" especially when it comes to guns

Hey, you might like this. WunderWaffe DG-2. I'm not big into CoD but they have some great animations and that extends over ten-fold to the wonder weapons. This one you gotta power down so that it's safe to reload and then power it back on

Maybe the 9mm submachine gun in Fallout: New Vegas.

Based on the M3A1 Grease Gun. A gun with some history.

It's basically an MP-40 but cheap as shit and american, and was brought in to replace the Thompson.
The weird looking ejection port dust cover doubles as a safety mechanism (the gun's only safety mechanism) making it unable to fire when it's closed. It has an indent instead of a bolt meaning to cock it you have to awkwardly stick a finger in and pull it back. That wire stock extends but will almost definitely fall out when extended. And the magazines had too many minor and major issues for a regular human to list out. Truly, a complete shit-ass of a gun, but it was dirt cheap to make and it won a war and a half

This reminds me of yet another Metro gun: the Bastard. It's also an SMG inspired by a real gun (an early version of the PPD-40) and, similar to the grease gun, is a mass-produced piece of shit.

The Bastard is the first gun you get because of how easy they are to manufacture in a post-nuke city and the quality is very apparent when you use it. It overheats, jams, suffers from a massive drop in accuracy after a few yards and the recoil is absurd. The only things going for it besides ease of manufacturing and repair are the bullet capacity and the high rate of fire. It feels awful to use but it's also a very effective piece of world-building.

Man, this is so awesome. There's tonnes going on with this gun. Normally when a gun is "homemade" it's just a bunch of pipes loosely screwed and taped together that look like it'll explode in your hand, but this looks like something that could exist.

The parts are mostly PPD, like all the main firing stuff, ejection port, etc, looks very PPD. But then you got the AK looking pistol grip, and the front is really reminding me of something I can't place. And what's even nicer is that it's all been bashed into an extremely economic STEN looking design.
STEN.jpg

(The STEN is the British piece of shit answer to the MP40)

Fun fact: PPD's (and assumedly Bastards based on those bullets) fire rifle rounds, making them technically carbines and not SMGs, however, Russia doesn't have a term to distinguish between the two (they use a catch-all term for all small automatic firearms like that) so when translated, Russian carbines are often called SMGs. CoD games flip-flop on this when it comes to AKs with them being classed as SMGs if the game is set in the past and ARs if it's modern

I don't play attention to gun design all that much, even in FPS games, so I won't be able to fill all the slots. The ones that have stuck out the most to me are:

Pistol - The Dove: Borderlands (2009)

View attachment 122324
In the first Borderlands game, there's a special repeater pistol called 'The Dove' that's a reference to John Woo movies: it never consumes ammo and thus never needs to be reloaded. Depending on what it spawns with, this gun can be either average or amazing. I lucked out and got a Dove with the corrosive attribute on my Siren. This thing has incredible synergy with Lilith's phase walk and because of that, it became my primary weapon for the rest of that playthrough.

Shotgun - Bigun: Metro 2033 (2010)

Metro 2033's Bigun is by far the dumbest shotgun I've ever seen in a game and for that, I love it. The design is the fan-made, winning participant of a Gameplanet contest. The designer wanted to evoke the scavenger lifestyle required by the game's harsh universe, so he came up with a revolving shotgun made entirely of bicycle parts. Best feature? The bike bell works.

It's not even the best shotgun in the game but I'd be lying if I said I don't have tons of fun using this thing!

Sniper Rifle - Gauss rifle: Fallout New Vegas (2010)

The gauss rifle is one of many energy weapons in FO:NV and like the other energy guns, I love this thing. Extremely powerful with a look that's a mix between realistic and sci-fi. I know Bethesda gets a lot of shit for its gun designs but I've never been a stickler for "proper" guns. The sillier it is, the more likely I am to notice the weapon.

My only complaint about this gun is that the crank that's located on the right side of the rifle doesn't see any use. I imagine it functions like a bolt-action rifle where you have to manually cycle the bullet (or in this case, the energy cell) into the chamber. I wish that was reflected in the reload animation.

Non-standard - I feel like all of my choices fall under "non-standard"

Melee - The Penetrator: Saint's Row the Third (2011)

I don't think this one requires an explanation.

Wildcard - Katamari: Katamari Damacy (2004)

It's my dream to one day make katamari mods for every third-person shooter I come across.
The Gauss Rifle, I knew you were cool
