Shotguns, high powered magnums, and sniper rifles are fun because they put people down HARD. One shot and your target is dead. Those kills feel so damn good. The blaster is an iconic part of the Mega Man series so I love that too.
4 gauge shotgun my beloved (that’s real btw)

Only tps I've played has been "Killzone Mercenary", so I guess the weapons in there: not because I'm able to tell a favourite among weapons, but because I enjoyed the game a lot!

From 17.40 minutes (for anyone who likes it, here's the digital artbook and it shows all the weapons)

Don't feel you need to limit yourself to first or third person shooters, cause if anything, having a favourite from a non-shooter game sounds way more interesting anyway.

Also, it's nice to see someone talking positively about a Killzone game - they get a really bad rep from people that have never played them. The LS18 is DAMN ugly, but the FN P60 looking gun looks nice and the M2 is awesome - looks like a Welrod.

Nice list. I modded silencers onto all the guns in L4D I didn't like and suddenly I started to like them. How did I forget about Postal 2 as well?

I feel you on this; when it's just me and my buddy alone, I always hit em from behind with the ol pump and dump. We don't play Fortnite though, that shits gay as hell

I don't play attention to gun design all that much, even in FPS games, so I won't be able to fill all the slots. The ones that have stuck out the most to me are:

Pistol - The Dove: Borderlands (2009)

The Dove.jpg

In the first Borderlands game, there's a special repeater pistol called 'The Dove' that's a reference to John Woo movies: it never consumes ammo and thus never needs to be reloaded. Depending on what it spawns with, this gun can be either average or amazing. I lucked out and got a Dove with the corrosive attribute on my Siren. This thing has incredible synergy with Lilith's phase walk and because of that, it became my primary weapon for the rest of that playthrough.

Shotgun - Bigun: Metro 2033 (2010)

Screenshot 2025-10-25 at 21-53-08 Bigun_Render.webp (WEBP Image 1000 × 351 pixels).png

Metro 2033's Bigun is by far the dumbest shotgun I've ever seen in a game and for that, I love it. The design is the fan-made, winning participant of a Gameplanet contest. The designer wanted to evoke the scavenger lifestyle required by the game's harsh universe, so he came up with a revolving shotgun made entirely of bicycle parts. Best feature? The bike bell works.

It's not even the best shotgun in the game but I'd be lying if I said I don't have tons of fun using this thing!

Sniper Rifle - Gauss rifle: Fallout New Vegas (2010)

Screenshot 2025-10-25 at 22-14-33 Gauss_rifle.webp (WEBP Image 1000 × 300 pixels).png

The gauss rifle is one of many energy weapons in FO:NV and like the other energy guns, I love this thing. Extremely powerful with a look that's a mix between realistic and sci-fi. I know Bethesda gets a lot of shit for its gun designs but I've never been a stickler for "proper" guns. The sillier it is, the more likely I am to notice the weapon.

My only complaint about this gun is that the crank that's located on the right side of the rifle doesn't see any use. I imagine it functions like a bolt-action rifle where you have to manually cycle the bullet (or in this case, the energy cell) into the chamber. I wish that was reflected in the reload animation.

Non-standard - I feel like all of my choices fall under "non-standard"

Melee - The Penetrator: Saint's Row the Third (2011)

Screenshot 2025-10-25 at 22-29-01 The_Penetrator_in_the_Weapon_Cache_in_Saints_Row_The_Third.w...png

I don't think this one requires an explanation.

Wildcard - Katamari: Katamari Damacy (2004)

It's my dream to one day make katamari mods for every third-person shooter I come across.

The Helghast did nothing wrong,
They were massacred & survivors displaced from their homeworld (Vekta) onto a death world.
If the ISA had never ethnically replaced the Helghast there would be no Helghan wars.
Greatest bait and twist in gaming was to have you play as the villains for 4 games.
Hiding this tiny piece of lore in the Tie in novel is shockingly poignant commentary on factual suppression through restricting access to information.
Shoot the scary gasmask men! 😱 Just never under any circumstances question why they need to wear those masks soldier! 🤫

(Sorry I'm legally obliged to drop the Killzone rant whenever the subject tangentially arises)

Awesome list. Really vibin with the rapid fire corrosive pistol (it reminds me of Monster Hunter dual blades - they stack effects really well because they hit lots of times rapidly), and that ugly af splatoon lookin shotgun is rad. I've never played much Metro but I think I'm going to after seeing that thing

This is extremely fucking sick. Have you ever considered giving it metallic paint? The sort of battle damage and weathering that 40K guys do? Idk if that's your sorta thing but I think it would look really nice

Metro does some really cool things with weapons that I rarely see outside of the series. There's this weapon type called "pneumatic" (basically, air guns) that doesn't use gunpowder to fire off rounds: it's pure air pressure.

You have to manually pump the gun and fill the air chamber in order to build pressure and get enough velocity to do damage. Because of the lack of gunpowder, these guns are very quiet and thus, great for stealth. The pneumatic sniper (Tihar) is another favorite of mine and I would have put it on the list had I not gone with the bigun.

That's the rifle in pure PLA Plastic, I fully intend to paint it gunmetal and try my best to add weathering.
I'm actually am a 40k player so I have more than enough paints.
It's just the anxiety of messing it up that's stun locked me ::nervous-prinny

Holy fuck that's awesome. The mechanics of weaponry is something that's fascinating to me, and it's something that a lot of games kinda just gloss over - yenno like Gauss rifles irl require the magnets to be pried apart between shots but a lot of games just have them reload like gunpowder rifles. Or how laser/spaser weapons should require a warm-up period, have no recoil, have different mechanics for penetration, and have no tracers, but in games they're just gun that deals """""energy""""" damage instead of phys dmg.

Yeah, pneumatics are cool. Did you know that the Lewis and Clark expedition, The Corps of Discovery Expedition, was pretty famous (in gun circles) for their employment of Girandoni air rifles?

5531526.jpeg.jpg

This is the gun, with the stock being the air can.
Austrian_Girandoni_system_Accouterments_Bag.jpg

And here's the kit to refill the air.

Smokeless, noiseless, lightweight, didn't need to reload frequently, didn't scare wildlife, and most importantly, it didn't scare the Native Americans. I don't condone their expedition but man did they get the perfect weapon for it

Oh er btw, should I start with Metro 2033 or is it better to jump in later? They're on sale pretty cheap rn

Hey, if it doesn't come out perfect that's all the more reason to try something like this again - the first time is very rarely the best anyway. Once it's done though, please post it on here and please tag me, because I shit you not, I was so excited about this that i shown the picture to somebody I was chatting with last night the nanosecond 3D printing came up in conversation
Fun Fact: Several of the guns used by Shadow the Hedgehog in Shadow the Hedgehog are based on Heckler and Koch weapons. To name a couple, the pistol is a H&K USP Tac
First-year_H&K_USP_9mm_(32415150000)_modified.png

And the sub-machine gun is a H&K MP5
Heckler_&_Koch_MP5-1.jpg

Shadow might be pretty wishy-washy about his stance on humanity but at least he has consistent manufacturer allegiance: he's a real Koch lover

This game gets memed to death but that one gun that shoots Omochao is genuinely fun

I'm cheating a bit since it's based on a real life gun but I absolutely love how sleek the XM8 Assault Rifle looks like (and is still futuristic looking even in 2025):

DW we take those. What is a Red9 if not a Mauser C96 anyway?

And another Koch appreciater. Gotta love it. I can't believe you didn't mention the most interesting part about these guns though: the ID tag system. It's something I've only ever seen elsewhere in Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay of all places, but weapons that are ID locked to a particular user is an interesting idea.

I've heard people say when MGS4 released (during a peak of lobbying for accountability in war), that they thought ID tag weapons were going to be implemented in the future. Obviously now we know that would never happen because *blah blah this is a gaming forum and no one cares about the culture war of AK-47s and M16s*, but in a videogame setting, I think it's got some potential that MGS4 never fully explored

I'm a big fan of 2033 and it do think it's better to start there; the sequels build-off of both its story and its mechanics.

New Vegas' Gauss rifle is guilty of all that ::nervous-prinny

The modding community has stepped up and added really nice reload animations for the Gauss. I wish this kind of detail was typical for non-standard weapons

I do now! That's a neat bit of history right there. Love the pictures, thank you!
