Favorite Fighting games?

My friends and I would rent up any fighter we could get our hands on. That said, I have always been partial to Tekken. Hwoarang is my boy, but I usually just use random.

Windows exclusive
That just reminded me of two more windows only fighting games I remember playing a lot when I was younger

Little Fighter 2

Which I guess is technically more of a beat-em up but it did have a few different fighting game style vs. modes which are what I tended to play more often when I played it.

Also, Lemmingball Z

A Dragonball Z fanmade fighting game that's honestly a ton of fun and better than some of the officially released DBZ fighting games. It has destructible terrain like the Worms games and I just remember it being super fast paced and chaotic and capturing the feeling of DBZ fighting pretty well.

  • Tekken 3
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3 & SFIII: 3rd Strike
  • Bloody Roar 2 & Primal Fury
  • Soul Calibur II
  • Samurai Showdow II & SS (2019)
  • Fatal Fury 3
  • Dead or Alive 4
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 & UMCV3
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2

Fighting games are my second favorite genre, only behind RPGs.

I have a different approach to them though: while many enjoy the competitive scene or playing with other players, I mostly enjoy them on my own, appreciating like every other game: learning how to play with the characters, learning about their origins, story and such (because for me, the story and setting are as important than the mechanics, although they don't need to be that deep). I simply don't care about competitions, EVO and whatsoever ::cirnoshrug

As for me story with them, like most of you, started with one SF game through the 90's and kept expanding. To organize better my tastes, I'll name the ones I like the most from their respective series:

Street Fighter Alpha 3 (especially due the World Tour mode from the PS1 port);
The King of Fighters 98 UM (for having all the important characters from Orochi Saga here);
Dead or Alive 2 (good 3D gameplay and ecchi);
Soul Calibur 1 (great 3D combat with weapons);
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (for the fun I had with Subspace Emissary; otherwise Ultimate);
Guilty Gear 1 (for making me like the series since it's first entry);
Marvel vs Capcom (great crossover and having fun with friends);
Power Stone 2 (great example of having an arena fighter using it's elements in favor of gameplay, and good multiplayer as well)
Samurai Shodown IV (the only fighting series, in my opinion, where the impact of each weapon can be felt on opponents)

I am mostly the same. I prefer the single player content and love to see the characters and where/how they grow. Especially in Street Fighter. I will watch the competitions on occasion, of if Max Dood is streaming the event on his channel, but I don't have an obsession. Besides, what you say isn't exactly abnormal. Most people play these games casually or for the single player content/arcade mode. That was SFV's biggest issue at the start in 2016. I didn't get the game until Champion Edition in 2020.

Yeah, you're right, I do remember all the fuzz about it

I enjoy the SNK arcade stuff, like KoF and Samurai Showdown and really like Street Fighter III Third Strike. I also appreciate the elegant complexity of Tekken (I like 3 and Tag) and the stylishness and fluidity of guilty gear

But my favorite one has to be Melty Blood act cadenza.

Soul Calibur 3 (my favorite soul calibur game. It has a lot of contents!)
Final Fantasy Dissidia duodecim (amazing game with a lot of contents)
The Guilty gear series
Tekken 3-5
Super smash bros series
Naruto shippuden ultimate ninja 5

Recently played some KoF and enjoyed it a lot but it feels like a game ill be hopping onto every now and than rather than grinding it out. Tekken is one of my main games right now. which have you played the most? ever played ranked in em?

Im stretching genres a bit for a second, but hear me out.
My favorite fighting game is Kingdom Come Deliverance.
1. you need to practice.
3. Blocking and parring are super important
3.. you need to learn combos.
4. You need to practice even more.
5. You fight in tournaments.
6. There are mini-bosses and bosses.

Sure Its a openworld RPG, but all that sure sounds like a fighting game to me

Mostly Tekken 3 for the ps1 and Tekken Tag for the ps2, but I'm not very good. I went to a couple of local tournaments back in the early 2000's, but there was a big difference in skill between the top players and myself, and that difference wasn't to my advantage. I imagine that power gap has only widened in the last two decades with the advent of online fighting game communities, metagame, character tier lists, etc; after all, before that, people could only practice against each other irl. I never played much of Tekken 4, as it felt like a bit of a departure from the previous two games' aesthetics. Tekken 5 was fine, but I only played that one a little bit. Right now if you were to randomly stop me on the street and ask me which the latest Tekken game to come out was, I wouldn't be able to answer you... ::sailor-embarrassed
Needless to say, I haven't played fighting games online, except for a couple of occasions at a friend's place.

DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
Mortal Kombat 9
MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA
DaemonBride: ADDITIONAL GAIN
Dissidia 012 Duodecim
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Deluxe Edition

Still love Fighting Games but played alot more when i was a teenager because i had NO JOB, miss those days. Recently I've been having a bit more free time so I'm thinking about grinding some games out again.

To answer your question:
KOF98 (Vanilla and UM)
Street Fighter alpha 3
BlazBlue Central fiction.
Injustice 1(not a great game but it was the first game that learned how to actually play. Terms like neutral, matchup knowledge, mix-ups, plus and minus on block and hit, Fg notation, all those things i learned with THIS game and itll always have a special place in my heart for that.)
Tekken 5-7.
VSAV.
Samsho V special

I never got too into MVC or any other team team games really. I like MVC1 and UMVC3 but could only play them for so long before getting a little annoyed by how volatile they are.

I've only played Guilty Gear Strive, i thought it was good but idk. Something about it felt a little off. I recently downloaded plus R and ill get into that sooner or later.

Recently ive been getting into Fightcade more. Had an account for quite some time but rarely ever used it, this year i want to learn third strike (i play akuma) and im aiming to get atleast B rank by the end of the year

My favorites to play are the Marvel VS Capcom and the Darkstalkers series.

With friends I love to play The Deadliest Warrior.

As much as I tend to suck at them..well to a degree that is.

DOA well I liked every game besides the most recent one int he Series but I guess DOA 5 is my top

Tekken 4 and 7 are also bangers

Guilty Gear I don't have a specific favorite part.

Soulcalibur

Phantom Break Omnia is also a decent fighting game the story is meh but the gameplay is good enough.
I like the Anime design and I got it on sale back then to.

Rival Schools also was good.

Tekken 4, 5, 6 and just barely 7
Soul Edge, Calibur 2, 3, 4 and just bearly 6
Virtua Fighter 4, 5 & Final Showdown
Dead or Alive ++, 2 and all versions of 5
Melty Blood Act Cadenza -Ver. B2-
Guilty Gear - Missing Link
DnF Duel
Bloody Roar 3
X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
Marvel vs. Capcom - CoSH
Skullgirls

Worthy Mentions:
CvS 1&2 (I don't like grooves)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (I still don't like grooves but I tolerate this game more)
SvC - Chaos (Choi's hitbox really pisses me off)
Rumble Fish 1&2 (I kinda want to like this)
Rumble Roses (stamina makes fights a tiresome slog)
Spectral vs Generation (feels like Darkstalkers cosplaying as Guilty Gear more than anything else)

Tekken 3
Tekken 5
Budokai Tenkaichi 3
also that digimon GBA game was really fun, the ps1 onepiece and ps2 naruto was fun as well

Street Fighter II Champion Edition and Hyper Fighting
Fatal Fury 2 and Special. And mother fucking City of the Wolves.
KOF Series - Any of them. When I feel like playing, have hard time choosing which one. Even including Maximum Impact 1 and 2006.(MI2) Liked XIV and XV alot.
Dead or Alive 2, 3, 4, 5 Last Round.
Samurai Shodown 1,2,4,Tenka, and current one on PS4.
Tekken 2, 3, 4, 5 and Dark Resurection, Tag and Tag2
Marvel vs Capcom 2.- ONLY IF IT HAS THE MUSIC CHANGED. Did I mention I hate the default music?
Bloody Roar series. Liked 2 most.
And of course there's Mortal Kombat. Liked I, II, Ultimate MK3, 4. Didn't like again till 9. Then liked XL, and 11. And now the case of 1. Kinda liked it at first and now it's turned me off to the series now.

Not too big into fighting games (kind of suck at them if I'm being honest), but I do love Soul Caliber 2 and The Last Blade 2
