Favorite Fighting games?

I'll go with DOA 2.
dead_or_alive_arcade_kasumi_poster_ver_2021_by_enlightendshadow_defe6ll-fullview.jpg

My favorite fighting games
Super Smash Bros. series
TMNT: Tournament Fighters (SNES)
Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
X-Men vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom

Soulcalibur IV, Dead or Alive 5, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Mortal Kombat 9.

And I agree, fighting games are just something else! It's really fun learning characters and executing combos. It feels therapeutic.

As much as Most games are appealing to me, nothing quite like fully learning and consistently hitting combos in fighting games for me. The sportsman-ship showed in most fighting games amongst players is very nice too. Seeing communities like DBFZ and MVC3 and how awesome and intense those showdowns can get. My journey started with Street Fighter Turbo 2 for the SNES, I landed on playing MVC the most but now its mainly Tekken 8 or one of the many guilty gears that exist. Do any of you have an awesome fighting game EXP or even Fun times with friends?

I bought Darkstalkers Tribute a couple days ago cause it was half off in the book store. Darkstalkers 3 will be 30 years old in 2027 and if Capcom doesn't cook up a new game, Devil Might Cry.

Anyway for any of my favorite picks that haven't been said already, one of them is Hopeless Masquerade, well really the Touhou fighting games in general. They're so cool but are undermined by how difficult it is for the average FGC aficionado to play them

Astra Superstars is a favorite too
1775753291299.png

Also gotta shoutout the OG arena fighter that walked so anime based games could consistently be beyond shovelware
1775753408882.png

and the first anime fighting game (not anime based)
1775753457759.png

And the first fighting game with solely women (but not the og PC-98 games that played like oss)
1775753534786.png

These are fun too

And ones I've always wanted to play is

During tekken 7 was the only time i wanted to be a serious fighting game player. I was in the top ranks and won a few small discord tournaments. I retired like 3 days into tekken 8 and im back to emulating old Jrpgs lol.

But hey I came out of it with like 20 bucks or so

i had JUST tried DOA and man its such a fun game, i see why people love it still.

King of Fighters(all of them), the PSP port of Tekken 5, Mortal Kombat 9, Street Fighter 3 and 4, Soul Calibur 2(Gamecube), Soul Calibur 3, Smash Bros. Melee, Budokai Tenkaichi 2

Soulcalibur IV, Dead or Alive 5, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Mortal Kombat 9.

it really is, if you have a friend to play with too you can almost physically feel the connection with each other. The only guy i know that loves fighting games as much as me is the reason Im still grinding out older fighting games and even finding new ones for us to fuck around on

The only thing I didn't like about the PSP port was the music they changed from the ps2 version. It's weird you can really hear the difference in the time period the two soundtracks were made. Both of them are pretty specific to popular music styles of the time and I guess I just prefer that early 2000's music to the later 2000's music.

I did manage to find a random hack on a youtube video that changes the music to the ps2 music but there was no patch file, just a prepatched rom otherwise I would have suggested it for the repo. I also can't remember where I got it from and only have the rom file now.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, even though it's aged like fine milk.

I didn't even know it was re-released.

Nice!
It's recently been re-released in a collection for modern consoles too, but I haven't tried that one out.

Mortal Kombat games from first one to trilogy
Samurai Shodown series
Guilty Gear series
Street Fighter 2
Super Smash Bros series

Fighting games are my all-time favorite video game genre for 35+ years now 👊 Traditional 2D 1v1 (or 2.5D) some tag, and adjacent styles like mecha & vehicle combat. Occasionally play 3D type.

Couldn't have said it better, this aspect alone draws me back to classic games and modern games alike. ::heart

My journey started with Street Fighter II on arcade, I went through playing KOF series the most but now its mainly Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike or Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves primarily playing in lobbies online.

I have fond memories discovering my passion to the genre when I was still a child, would stand on crates to play arcade cabinets against people 2-3x my age back in the day. Fast-forward besides getting my hands on the latest console port, I locked-in playing SF III 3rd Strike and SSF IV (Ver.2012, Ultra) daily for years online sticking with 1-2 main characters and only occasionally playing a handful of others.

My highest rank in 3S on Fightcade is A, now I'm B using Necro, Remy as my main(s) with secondary Twelve. I do like player others such as Q, Ibuki, Oro, Alex, Elena to name a few. My PP in USFIV are 3000 and my BP for Vega (claw) is 11k as my main. Secondaries are Decapre, El Fuerte, Dee Jay, and Hakan. I have a few replays floating around on YouTube.

My preferred style is anti-shoto / fast zoning.

My top 10 overall based on gameplay mechanics:

1. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
2. The King of Fighters XIV
3. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
4. The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match
5. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
7. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus Λ
8. The King of Fighters XI
9. Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves Garou
9. Darkstalkers 3 Vampire Savior
10. Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness

My top 10 that are not necessarily peak (but I love):

1. Groove on Fight Gōketsuji Ichizoku 3
2. Rival Schools: United By Fate
3. Real Bout Fatal Fury Special Real Bout Garō Densetsu Special
4. Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001
5. Project Justice Moero! Justice Gakuen
6. Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram Dennō Senki Bācharon Oratorio Tanguramu
7. Psychic Force 2012
8. Street Fighter Alpha 3 Street Fighter Zero 3
9. Tech Romancer Chōkō Senki Kikaiō
10. The Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai Bakumatsu Rouman Dai Ni Maku: Gekka no Kenshi - Tsuki ni Saku Hana, Chiri Yuku Hana

Very nice.

I also forgot to mention Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur — those are la creme de la creme.

wow I appreciate your effort in this detailed share, cant possibly agree more when it comes to any street fighter games, they are my always classic. played it on SNES then went to arcades and stuff to learn about the competitive scene and see tourneys and play some. (barley scraped by in those local tourneys tho LMFAOO) I recently attempted locking in on SF third strike but I think I lack the ability to understand the basic ken combo inputs during practice LOL. Anyway def will be stealing a few from this list to try out

A couple of them (the Touhou games and Hinokakera) are Windows exclusive so setting them up may be a bit of annoyance since they don’t have a launcher through Steam. I know Touhou especially has been for me. A lot of the older Touhou games famously haven’t resurfaced on Steam and kinda live on via online store imports that are admittedly really annoying to set up for modern day computers that don’t use Japanese

Senko no Ronde games mostly stayed to the Xbox 360, but Duo can be bought on Steam. It’s the only one that can.

Everything else can be found here in some way.

Not sure it counts, but Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. Also UMvC3.

My favorites are usually the ones which have great soundtracks, interesting (and good-looking) characters and a serious lore which I can get to know and follow up. I was never really good at them btw, but I look forward to someone who can teach me how to go deep into these games.

SFII, Alpha 2, 3rd Strike, Tekken 3 and Virtua Fighter 2 to me are generally the best ones.
