Favorite controller?

Mine has always been the Mega Drive Fight Pad ((the later, 6 button controller), and by extension the JP/Euro Saturn controller, built off the same basis.

I never quite liked how the Sony layout basically dictated controller setups forevermore, even though the Dual Shock for is easily the best modern controller in my opinion... stupid touchpad and light bar excluded.

Seeing as there are so many kinds nowadays I wanted to ask which controllers are your favourites and why? First party, third party, fightstick, joypad, anything goes!

For me, my top 3 are:
  1. The current Xbox controller — I think the ergonomics and form factor are just about as perfect as they can get with this controller. To me, it's the perfect size, the buttons are all excellent, and I like the added grip texture that wasn't on the Xbone controllers. My only real complaint is that the d-pad is too loud.
  2. DualShock 2 — the Rolls-Royce of controllers. The pressure sensitive buttons were a neat idea even if, like, three games utilized them, but this controller oozes class and slick design. The lack of triggers has dethroned it for me, but I really like the snappy sticks and the squishy d-pad.
  3. Switch Pro Controller — This is a pretty unassuming controller for the most part. It does its job, and what it does it does really well. I mainly like the feel of the ABXY buttons. Not too squishy, but not too clicky either. I think it's got a perfect weight and the form factor is great. It's also got the same stick placement as the Xbox which I prefer. The lack of analog triggers is disappointing for such a modern controller though. Pic includes the Monster Hunter themed one I own just for fun.

I've grown to dislike the Switch pro controller and Joycons due to their unhinged analog sensitivity. Even N64 and PS2 analogs beats it in that regard.

I'm grew to love the Dualsense controller and I'll say that it's in my top 3 best PlayStation controllers with the other 2 being the Dualshock 2 and 4. The 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C is great alternate as well.

i know the price puts a ton of people off but the xbox series X elite controller is probably my end game controller. It just fits perfectly in my hands and has the perfect amount of heft to it. Its definitely pricy af and not worth the crazy price tag compared to some other options. But i like it

Is the d-pad an improvement over the original?

I have a Dualshock 3 and a 8bitdo Pro 2 on my PC. The later of which I also use on my Switch. I prefer that type of layout over anything else. SNES set the standard.

1# Xbox 360 controler thick and comfortable for me to hold but HATE the l2 and r2 Buttons and hate using r1 and l1 as well its the shape and smallness of it bothers me
2# ps4 controller long and easy to hold, Touch pad is good the lights look amazing and analogs are pretty nice , sadly I don't like the bumper buttons being mushy and isn't easy to spam it due to the spring mechanic, and android charging cable is terrible
3#gamecube controller THCIK and the buttons make a spring sound when I push them, the shape that stops your analog from moving too much felt amazing as well
4# ps2 Controller, just a beast of a controler good for everything

the dualshock 3 is basically the cockroach of controllers. its been almost two decades of heavy use and the original controller that came with my ps3 is still in perfect condition no hint of any drift or button jamming and the battery still holds a charge like its fresh out of the box. modern controllers could never
