There's something about Zinnia's theme that I always come back to.

THREE WHOLE DECADES and this theme is still the zenith of entire FF battle themes.

Also ALL the battle themes composed by Hayato Asano in Gust games, because he's just THAT good. Nobody can possibly top him when it comes to JRPG soundtracks, not even legends like Yasunori Mitsuda and Yuzo Koshiro.

For how boring the game was overall, Blue Reflection's multi-phase boss themes always hit so hard and made things very climactic. Otherwise it's a bunch of wet-eyed teenagers doing a whole lot of nothing.

I've always loved H. Sakimoto's compositions in BoF Dragon Quarter and Vagrant Story (the battle themes vary depending on the enemies), but surely among all of them one of the best remains the one in FFIX and FFVIII (the one related to Laguna)

For me it will always be Final Fantasy X's normal battle theme.

Literally came here to say this. This still feels like the default 'battle' theme that first pops into my head when the concept is bought up.

Not really a battle theme but the boss fight music from sonic 2 is also top.

Uh it did, this is localized as the legend of heroes trails in the sky.
In fact the only legend of heroes games to date to not get a english localization are legend of heroes 2 and currently, daybreak kai, which will likely be announced in the coming months for a us release.

The localizations are pure garbage though. Woolsey era levels of bad, full of mischaracterization, mistranslation, and memes

Uh the translation is not THAT bad, at least not in sky's case, some debate on cold steel but, daybreak and up though i can't really say i disagree as it has a new team that seems to be focused on "modern dayisms" than proper translations.

Not to derail the thread, this is my last comment on it, but it's pretty bad. Estelle, for one example, is completely wrong in the English version. Every line where she's rude and talks about "her big stick" isn't in the original Japanese script.
It's definitely in need of a fan translation.

Just an fyi, sky fc was the fan translation, but yeah we're derailing.
Personally i'm more a fan of cold steel anyway.

Same! It was the first FF battle theme I ever heard, and it made such an impression on me I was let down when I learned that all FF games had their own theme xD
