The arguments that often come up in its favor are its graphics, even though it is yet another game programmed under the bland and soulless Unreal Engine 5. Expression and personal vision are sacrificed in favor of technology to produce works that are polished and beautiful according to modern standards. Expedition 33 uses the same standardized techniques as most games running on UE5, which contribute to this feeling of blandness and prefabricated world. The problem with technologies such as Nanite for scenery and architectural structures or Lumen for creating cinematic shadows is that they tend towards pure photorealism and leave little room for true artistic direction. All of this makes me miss the experimental PS2 games that had a unique identity. I'm not going to get into a philosophical debate, but I think that, paradoxically, techniques leads to uniformity because it is only concerned with productivity and cost-effectiveness.

That's why the gaming industry is in such bad shape. The reality is that we've reached a plateau where studios no longer want to take risks because dissent is often punished. This game simply copies all the familiar formulas instead of developing its own gameplay that could be in harmony with the chosen graphic style. Instead, it's a repetitive, second-rate Persona game.

Correct me if Im wrong but Unreal Engine 5 is capable of depicting different art styles (as it was with previous UE's I'd assume) so I don't think blaming the engine and/or devs for their choice in favor of photorealistic approach is fair. If they wanted to make their game more cartoony or stylized they would've done it. What if this is how they invisioned their game from the start? I hate how a lot of UE games look the same as well, but this one is different enough imo. Also the only thing thats similar to Persona games here is turn-based and elemental weakness-based combat, which is... a very big stretch.

I haven't played much of it but I didn't see anything similar to Persona...
Actually, I thought the game was fine. I just didn't like the story but that's it...

The ost is really good. When i see people say "persona"-like yk they havent played much jrpgs
You can listen the top 5 best soundtracks on YouTube, and they're just melodramatic music that will never leave a lasting impression, unlike many other iconic and classic games. That's how you distinguish a masterpiece from crap.

You misunderstood my post. I'm not denying the capabilities of this graphics engine to produce stylized games. I'm pointing out the tools and assets that encourage one model over another. You can literally see the upcoming UE5 games, and they all look the same.

So you're just complaining about the graphics not being PS2 even tho its not a PS2 game?

You're just nitpicking.

Expedition 33 adopts the SAME user interface and dynamic camera work, with the aim of creating the SAME cinematic feel

meh this is just another generic UE5 graphics rant. I was hoping for something more in-depth
> Talk about the features and tools of a graphics engine

> Normie say that there is no depth in my rant

just admit that you are being disingenuous and that you don't like me criticizing your favorite game

wasn't there already a "nerdelitist"? did you get banned?

it's me , i'm just back in business

Damn you really are nitpicking.
Still doesn't mean it tries to be a "second-rate Persona game" though.

Anyway, you have every right to not like it, I just think you're being unfairly harsh, that's all.

Did you finish the game?

I feel this is gonna get locked up
It should blud makes no actual points of criticism on the game. Probably never played it. He tends to make ragebait on anything new regardless if its good or bad.

Right? Like critique the level designs, or even the combat/boss fights. It immediately became one of my all-time favorites, but even I understand it's not perfect. This thread is just low-effort sweaty-posting.
