A remake of the first game in the Mother/Earthbound series, Mother (1989), also known as EarthBound Beginnings, this fan remake is built on the Mother 2/Earthbound engine. This fan remake has been through an insane development history, but it's actually real now! Author: Gabbi & the other members of the EBBR development team Release Date: 14 June 2026 The Fan Remake Website Source Link: https://ebbr.neocities.org/

I just started Mother 1 on the Mother 1+2 GBA version. Should I switch to playing this one?
Play MOTHER Restored instead. It's literally just the Mother 1+2 fan translation's text in the NES version, along with some more restorations like uncensoring the graphics. GBA version's fine but it butchers the audio a lot so the NES version is preferable. I'd highly recommend playing it without the Easy Ring and the run button inactive for that perfect pacing ::coolstafy
This fanmade Snes version is novel but it's far from the definitive MOTHER 1 experience. In the same way the All Stars version of Super Mario Bros and Lost Levels is novel but are still worse versions than the NES games.

Nintendo of America should've release this as a Nintendo Power Preview Video for Nintendo Power subscribers which would help sales a bit. Despite the $80 price with the strategy guide. Nintendo could've give players two options. Original SNES release for $69.99 and the Strategy Guide bundle for $79.99. And, if Itoi saw what Super Mario All-Stars can do, APE, HAL Laboratory and Itoi could've reboot Earthbound Beginnings in 16 bit form in 1995 after Mother 2's 1994 release while the N64 was being delayed to 1996.

Man... i remember how a few rises and falls happened to this remake that had to go throught while i was playing Mother Cognitive Dissonance like crazy back in the highschool hahah! I am playing this and so far i am having fun!

Yeah, in the start of the game it is like the NES version: you'll get whopped quickly by the humans enemies, but with a few levelings you'll be able to fight back! After all, it feels good now playing this Remake Hackrom...

So far i got Lloyd to join me... and honestly? AGHHH MY HOPES AND DREAMS ARE HERE! I LOVE THIS ROMHACK REMAKE! THE SONGS ARE SO COOL BTW- EVERYTHING IS SO PERFECT!

Thanks for the upload!

Only tried the opening segment but holy pokey on a bicycle it's crazy good. This is probably THE definitive version of Mother1, unless they somehow managed to make the late-game balance issues worse (I highly doubt they did).
I just hope that certain company's legal team doesn't try to shut down the project.
Might be totally wrong, but I heard Itoi owns the rights to the game and so Nintendo would need his permission to shut down fan projects, which he hasn't given them thus far.

ahh this is fantastic, so glad it's done!
based on some comments here, gonna assume there's no easy ring/patch going in this version? haven't played this since the wii-u virtual console, gonna be a blast with this coat of paint on it

Wow, I am getting whooped early game. I must've died about 4 times my first 10 minutes of playing, even after collecting the two healing items in the house. Must be skill issue though... ::pipo-monkey-eating
It’s just like how it was back in the OG.
Like, having to reach Lvl 3 before going outside. It’s fantastic really, this remake being able to keep the crazy difficulty without the long grind. It’s all faster paced. ::peacemario

True, I guess it mostly fell victim to the design limitations of the time. When most people rag about RPGs is to complain about absurdly high encounter rates, and this is the fairest criticism that can be levied against the genre in my opinion.

Because Earthbound and its sequel operate differently in this regard, it's natural that it will draw more praise.
This is very true. The 25th anniversary ROM hack did a great job of balancing that out.
