I've put off the trilogy for 20+ years, but I'm finally starting it in a few weeks.

Is there any reason to play the original NES game at this point? Or, is this the new preferred default?

This here substitutes the original in every metric from what I'm seeing.

This is pretty much the definitive way to play the first Mother game imo!

The full color players guide is still in development, but it will be released in the future. I'll ask Rage to post the guide.

Oh. Well darn, that was a bit misleading for them to already act like it's available in the cover. I'll look forward to it at least. I like having well made guides for rpgs. I don't usually need them, but it's a nice option to have

Where can the full color players guide that is mentioned on the cover be downloaded? I would include it in the post download too. It's nice to include manuals and guide PDFs if they exist for fan projects like this. Like I did for that Metroid II hack last night

good point. Especially as other RPGs like Dragons quest got SNES remakes

I played through the original with a few improvement hacks a few years ago and it was still rough. Very excited to play this remake, looks very faithful and damn pretty in the Mother 2/3 art style.

A team of fans is developing a fan game based on the canceled Mother 3: The Fall of the Pig King (N64) called EarthBound 64 Experience.

You never know. The Neo Geo can't Doom, nominally, but people are doing it.

Playing it alongside the NES original. So far, it's a faithful recreation and I appreciate the enemy encounters no longer being randomized (just like in "MOTHER 2"). The audio team also did a great job with the SNES remixes of "MOTHER 1" tracks.
