A remake of the first game in the Mother/Earthbound series, Mother (1989), also known as EarthBound Beginnings, this fan remake is built on the Mother 2/Earthbound engine. This fan remake has been through an insane development history, but it's actually real now! Author: Gabbi & the other members of the EBBR development team Release Date: 14 June 2026 The Fan Remake Website Source Link: https://ebbr.neocities.org/

ahh this is fantastic, so glad it's done!
based on some comments here, gonna assume there's no easy ring/patch going in this version? haven't played this since the wii-u virtual console, gonna be a blast with this coat of paint on it

Wow, I am getting whooped early game. I must've died about 4 times my first 10 minutes of playing, even after collecting the two healing items in the house. Must be skill issue though... ::pipo-monkey-eating
It’s just like how it was back in the OG.
Like, having to reach Lvl 3 before going outside. It’s fantastic really, this remake being able to keep the crazy difficulty without the long grind. It’s all faster paced. ::peacemario

Only tried the opening segment but holy pokey on a bicycle it's crazy good. This is probably THE definitive version of Mother1, unless they somehow managed to make the late-game balance issues worse (I highly doubt they did).
I just hope that certain company's legal team doesn't try to shut down the project.

True, I guess it mostly fell victim to the design limitations of the time. When most people rag about RPGs is to complain about absurdly high encounter rates, and this is the fairest criticism that can be levied against the genre in my opinion.

Because Earthbound and its sequel operate differently in this regard, it's natural that it will draw more praise.
This is very true. The 25th anniversary ROM hack did a great job of balancing that out.

Hey, let's not downplay the original, it was pretty badass for its time.
