English translation that builds upon and completes the previous patch by Ceris White, with their oversight and support, now covering the post game. The only Japanese text that does remain is inconsequential and limited to interface button headings that are easily discernible. It also contains optional QoL features.

Author(s): Ceris White, Gerb, Ilario, Reflex
Type: Translation
Version: 1.0.0
Date: 17th of July, 2026
Status: Fully Playable

RB's Notes 1: Both versions contain the following base QoL changes:

  1. Add new synthesis recipes (re-adds monsters that were limited to Wi-Fi or unobtainable back into the game).
  2. Monster variant suffixes moved to the end of a monster's name.
  3. Monster polarity replaces genders, as with previous entries.

RB's Notes 2: Besides, [Additional QoL] adds the following:

  1. Offended monsters remain scoutable.
  2. Owning multiples of the same monster no longer lowers scout chance.
  3. Opposite polarity synthesis requirement removed.
  4. Exp gain doubled.

I have a question about a mechanic in DQMJ2. For example, if a Healslime learns Medium Heal, it no longer has any available Heal. I recently played the latest games in the DQM series, and this mechanic or detail doesn't appear. I played the earlier games a long time ago and don't remember if this mechanic was implemented.View attachment 214259

In Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional, spells automatically replace their lower-tier versions as soon as your monster learns the upgraded variant. For example, learning Midheal will permanently overwrite Heal, while Kafrizzle replaces Frizz. You cannot manually un-equip the upgraded spells once learned.

They do change the conditions for this mechanics a bit with newer games. DQM1/DQM2 3DS remakes and DQMJ3 made lower tier heal spells available even when you get the higher tier version so you can have a monster with heal and midheal for example.

The difference between OG Joker games and their Professional versions is that the Pro versions feel more like extensions compared to their og counterparts. In a way, the Professional version are like dlc (before dlc became a trend) and it would have been a hassle to buy the same game just for more playability alone while making the last game obsolete at this point (that isn't to say it's not always the case you could still check out the og game to see the comparison of which of the two games is better or not).

From my experience, so far, is that they are debatably better in some aspects that make the og version look incomplete. For example, the addition of newer monsters added into the game, an extended story that either feels like a complete experience compared to the og game (can't blame anyone if the game feels "a bit much" for them if that's the case). At least the extended lore is somewhat more interesting as it gives more focus to Joker's iconic monster, Incarnus in their Wulfspade form, though I admit it's not much even though Joker 3 Professional expands on them more.

They also have new starter monsters compared to the og but they aren't better or worse unless you know which one you want. They can help you in the long run whether it be for passing on their skills or getting certain monsters you need that can only be Synthesized from that specific monster (such as the starting monster, Small Fry, from the Pro version synthing with another Small fry to get Green Dragon for example) or however else you want them to be.

However, there are also minor changes such as when it comes to Synthesizing monsters as not all methods are the same when it comes to getting the monsters you want. They can be a hassle to get since some of the exclusive monsters can only be gotten from wifi or dumb other methods that the DQM games (can't quite remember if this started after DQM2 OR DQMJ) tend to do as not everyone can complete their library of each monster, from the common monsters to even THE final bosses of the game (and other exclusive monsters that can't be gotten the normal method within the game). You can look up the Synth list from Woodus for both Joker 2 and Pro (this also includes Joker 3 its Professional version as well) and you will be able to spot the difference if you look carefully and see what's changed. That is whether these changes are for the better or worse depending on how much time and commitment when it comes to getting a certain monster you want. That, and some monsters may or may not replace certain monsters that were known to inhabit the location that they thrive in (not sure if that's really the case based on what had changed but I wouldn't mind if someone corrects me if it was false, been a while since I played the og game).

Otherwise, that's pretty much it, as far as I know anyway, and if you want a complete experience playing this game, download the additional qol as it makes changes to the game making the grinding easier such as 2x experience from defeating monsters and now you can synth exclusives you couldn't get from either Joker 2 or Professional, the document explains the new recipe added into the game but I have yet to find out if that's the case or not but if it is, have fun completing the monster library (that is if that's what you are going for).

Hope this reply helps and help you understand the game a bit better. I say this as a fan who loves monster taming level up in rpg games that involve fusion that absolutely loves turning underdog monsters into literal gods whether it be games like Digimon, Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest Monsters and other games like them.

So which one do I play for the original experience? I like playing things as they are, and ain't no little bitch to difficultly.
Wouldn't exactly say the game is less difficult and from what I played of it, it still looks and feels the same. If anything, the additional qol, with newer additions that was never in the og game, make the game better, just less time consuming if that makes sense. It's a just question of whether to play the og game that may or not take too much of your time or the additional qol that only lessens your gameplay time in terms of grinding (unless you REALLY want your monsters to be OP early but done quicker).

Otherwise, you can skim through it at your own pace if you like if you play the additional version whether you want to play it for convenience or not. Wouldn't worry too much about this game's difficulty despite the changes to it's og version, Joker 2.

I've waited so long I never imagined anyone would translate DQM2 profissional, goodbye real world and real people I won't touch the grass for a few months.

Renamed the save file to match new version
Tried playing on my Retroid Pocket Classic because why not?

The game crashes for me (in the QOL version of the rom) after the first arena battle for rank F, if im playing it on a nds lite. i used the same r4 on a DSI XL and it works just fine. the games great in every other aspect.

i played the first one on my dstt flash card from where i got it that brand had bigger storage then a r4

What changed in the new update?

I've been waiting years like many DQM fans to play this, absolutely adore this series. Gonna have to see if it boots on ds pico bootloader or ak menu next bootloader later when I get the opportunity. Definitely want to play it on my dsi xl for maximum nostalgia.

I was so excited that this came out, however it doesn't work on my flashcart for DS :( It just shows a white screen whenever I boot just the DQM2J QOL rom up.
Depending of which cart you're using, it may be worth checking if your ROM definitions are up to date.

Just tested it and the changes does makes the game less tedious, specially for those that played the original and want a quick start (for new players, make sure to ignore "big" monsters until later, you dont want to fight that giant flying chicken until your monsters are around lvl 20 on the first map)

Some text of the menus and battle effects are still in Japanese, but isnt anything important

Also tested the old Action Replay codes. The Qol version seems to make the exp code useless, so that one needs to be updated to work on it but the rest looks good so far (i beated the original and just want to see the extra stuff and monsters)

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! I was so mad when Dragon Quest Monster Joker 2 came out here and we did not get Professional. I have Waited FOREVER for this moment, my wife will be very happy!!!

Dude, back in the day with the original 2, my brother and I put 60 hours into it on our first 3DS... We never even made it to the final boss :,/ i hope I manage to finish this one : ]

is there a difference between regular joker 2 and this?
is this like the japanese exclusive "directors cut" edition or something?
short version, 124 more monsters, 33 new skills and various rebalancing of the game mechanics.

Genuinely wanna cry tears of joy over this, Joker 2 Professional is still probably my favorite entry in the series and I'm glad to see a full, realized translation for the game!
