For what it did in First person 3D adventure games is basically the same SM64 did in third person 3D adventure games (the very same year): Be "the master" the other developers could use as the gold standard, something the industry needed desperatly in the early 3D games era (mid 90s).
Before them, those type of games were very different, or even experimental, and nobody ended to copy them.
Doom, instead, was not a "complete 3D" game, but a VERY enhanced "Wolfenstein 3D". Although it is a great game, and during years people called the "FPS" genre as "Doom type game". So... VERY important game for the FPS genre.
