PC DOOM or Quake?

How about a third option?

I'm playing through it again right now and having a blast. Probably my favorite of the official ID Doom WADs.

I personally don't like Plutonia, you have either People loving it or hating it :)
It has a lot of Ambushes and Trial and Error, so that i departs from the mixed Formula the original Games have, that also includes a good amount of Exploring, mindless Action and the Hunt for Secrets.

I made this little Picture, to show off Plutonia in a Nutshell XP

To the Main Question, i prefer Doom a lot, Quake is too brown and boring to look at.
A Trend they started with Doom 2.
Doom 1 has a good amount of diverse Textures with reds and greens.

Yeah, Plutonia definitely is a love-it-or-hate-it kinda thing. I find most people who dislike it tend to enjoy TNT: Evilution, or vice versa (I enjoy both to a degree), so Final Doom still tends to be worth it overall.

Also, that picture needs about 25-30 Revenants crammed in there somewhere too. :loldog

I never played Quake, but I watched my dad play DOOM when I was younger, and I enjoyed every terrifying moment. Sometimes I would play the game myself when I didn't mind inevitably getting my ass kicked, and when I did it was often to this song:
The awesome music of DOOM was what really got me interested in the game, and FPS as a genre in general. There aren't many I like, but those I do, I enjoy with a lot of awesome music.

e2M9 is called "Fortress of Mystery" btw

haha i have an updated Version with one that is huge and barely visible in the sky, i just couldn't find it.

And yes, i personally did enjoy TNT more^^

But this is the nice Thing about Doom, there is so much, everybody can get Enjoyment out of it.

both pioneered 3d tech and both were fun, quake had a lot more in platforming whereas doom had more in movement for dodging etc so i guess its more of whoever's opinion

Best classic FPS music was Rise of the Triad. Actual game is kind of frustrating, but the OST is incredible.

I haven't played any of these newer doom games, but I like the old 90s ones quite well. I don't even need brutal doom or whatever, give me a 486 and original-ass doom and I'm good.
I'm gonna sound dumb but I played/was gifted Doom 3 before I played the original dooms. Unreal tournament 2004. I loved Doom 3, got freaked out and scared a lot, scare the sh** outta me, with all the lights off. Briefly played Quake, didn't play enough to tell you however. I emulate Quake today

Love both A LOT. Both are masterpiece franchises. I do prefer DOOM though. DOOM is my fav game franchise ever.

How's the music in Quake?
Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack for Quake 1 - so that's badass.
The DLCs and sequels go more industrial metal than industrial soundscape like NIN did. But the soundtracks are solid. Andrew Hulshult worked on Quake Champions.

Doom was much more accessible due to lower system requirements.Quake required at least a DX or Pentium processor, so I skipped it. Though I watched gameplay at a friend's PC back then and it was very atmosperic. He had a 486dx2 processor, probably the minimum to run the game at 320x200 on DOS.

I prefer Quake over all other FPS. Mostly because of the fan-made maps. Campaigns like Arcane Dimensions, Alkaline, Epochs of Enmity, Re:Mobilize, etc.

Doom I like enough to play the original campaign from time to time and some expansions, but not enjoying the basic gameplay as much, I don't care to delve into bigger and harder fan maps. One day I should get through Back to Saturn X though.

I actually only played Quake 1 and 2 for the first time maybe 2 or 3 years ago now, was always a Doom kid growing up (and Duke3D). I loved them, but I still think I have to say Doom over Quake. I think Doom overall is more consistent than Quake, and even going off of just Doom 1 vs Quake 1 I think Doom's a more balanced out experience considering the kinda meh Quake weapons and more consistently interesting level designs in Doom. The Quake atmosphere is S tier though, and I like just how slapped together the vibe is. Space marine fighting dogs, flesh golems and animated plate armour in a Gothic castle with a nail gun assault rifle and a double barrel? So bizarre in the best way.

I love both! I think Quake 1-2 are very solid especially after the remaster. I will admit, I haven't had the pleasure of playing the other Quake games, but I've played Doom 1 to completion and a little bit of Doom 2! Considering that I grew up in a generation that 3D games were becoming a normality, I enjoy seeing the "3D" games from the 90s. So I've mostly stuck with the first two of both the series. Really fun games to play when you need a break from college work!
