i dont mean just doom 1 or quake 1, i mean comparing both series as a whole. which do you prefer? ive never really meshed with doom, but quake is my lifeblood. quake 1 is absolutely one of my favorite games of all time, it's so fun and looks so cool and has tons of excellent enemy designs and fun weapons, i can never get my fill of it. quake 2 is a lot more boring in terms of aesthetics, however i think the super shotgun of q2 is seriously the most satisfying weapon ive ever had the pleasure of using in any videogame, and bhopping in that game is so easy that you can blast through areas at the speed of an f1 car. quake 3 arena may not have a real singleplayer, however it makes up for that by having some of the most fun movement in any shooter, and also being the only deathmatch game that i actually find myself able to enjoy. plus, i think i have more time in the defrag mod (which is all about going fast through tricky obstacle courses) than the original game of quake 3, and that really scratches an itch for me. quake 4 kinda looks like ass but i can't really knock it till i try it, i suppose. i know there's also quake live, which was my introduction to the race mode/defrag style of gameplay for quake 3, so i'll give it credit for that. quake champions also exists, but it doesnt have orbb in it so i don't give a shit. there's also enemy territory quake wars which... looks like a videogame alright. i'll admit, the quake series goes all over the place, but i kind of love that about it. it's cool getting to see how wildly different each game is from the last, and if i dont like one of em, i can always just play the ones i do like.

DooM! Specifically classic DooM 1 and 2
DooM 64, 3, 2016, and Eternal are all decent games, but none of them are even close to the caliber of classic DooM. The main appeal for me is meta content - these are not just good games, they are amazing engines with 3 decades of love and attention poured into them. I cannot gush enough about the incredible classic doom community and the resources available for people who like getting involved in that sort of stuff.
You got software speifically made for fan content. You got channels like Decino breaking down all the mechanics. Doom is responsible for getting me personally into coding and doing sprite work. I'm going to be playing Doom content for the rest of my life and I swear it's never the same thing twice. Literally every few months or so somebody drops a crazy WAD or MegaWAD that completely shakes up the scene.
In my mind it comes down to perspective. If DooM to you is just a game from the early 90s with 30ish levels then yeah, Quake is superior but DooM to me is far more than just a game in a way that Quake just cannot compete.

DOOM feels somewhat more consistent of a series, even when it pivots a bit more into the slower horror angle of 64 and especially 3.
The first Quake's baseline gameplay and feel is something I probably would take over most of DOOM, but the series as a whole loses a ton of its appeal once shifting to bog standard scifi.

If Specific Games then Quake for sure but comparing the whole series is kinda unfair honestly.

Considering technically speaking the most recent Quake is well 4 and while with Doom we're gonna get a Mecha to fight some Demon soon.

I used to like Quake's multiplayer more than the games themselves but I think that with Quake 2 the series was never quite the same for me! 2's weapons are really unsatisfying for me and you can tell that Romero is missing from the production. When it comes to Doom I think the series is something I prefer over all because each game has been pretty consistent in terms of over all quality. Even doom 3 was a pretty fun action horror game when it came out!

Gotta be honest: Quake never won me over.

I remember being mind-blown by the graphics of the first game when compared to Doom, and by how easy it was to get an online match going on Quake 2, but I never felt addicted to the series in the same way that Doom had grabbed me. The closest I got was Quake: Revolution, and only because the local multiplayer was excellent.

Love seeing Q's taunt in your signature, OP!

I have a preference towards the Doom games. I prefer the level design and weapons in Doom, especially the super shotgun and BFG. Plus E2M1 (I Sawed the Demons) is a favorite track of mine.

Can't comment too much beyond games after Doom 64 or Quake 2.

I
Well, we all have our opinion. For example, I don't like doom eternal at all.
Its quite different after all its more Doom Speedruner Edition ;) but i like it was to short for me though. And I like Doom 1 the most mostly for the Atmosphere and my Rose Colored Glasses,an I think Doom 3 is a bit underrated.

What I didn't like about Eternal was that ammo and armor were too limited. Yes, you have a chainsaw for ammo and a flamethrower for armor, but their cooldowns were so long that if you ran out of resources and couldn't use your gadgets (which was pretty common), your only option was run, hoping not die along the way.

As for my favorites: Doom 2016, doom 1
Doom 2 and doom 3 are just fine.

I like both series, it is just they are very different. If you go play Quake with Doom mindset, you won't get far and vice versa. But I have to concede that I'm much more of a Doom fan myself, especially the classic ones.
And I liked the vibe of the first Quake better, after they added the whole Strogg thing, it was almost a completely new series.

Rose Colored Glasses,an I think Doom 3 is a bit underrated.
I agree. After they updated Doom 3 to add the possibility of holding the flashlight along with the gun, it became much better. It was just that instead of arcade-style action, the game decided to go a horror route, and not everyone liked it. It was different, but good imo.
