Anime Do you watch anime episodes in 2x speed?

Hmmm i've watched anime at 2x speed. This is usually to refamiliarize myself with something or something i just want to get over with. Naruto fight scenes come to mind where it drags on for 6 episodes...

Nah, if I ever feel the need to go 2x on something it's because I don't care enough to watch it, so I just drop it at that point

I've seen a lot of youtubers say they do this. It's extremely weird and makes me not want to trust them, hell i already don't trust a lot of anime youtubers.

Yep, do it all the time, I got shit to do and bitches to fuck man ion wanna watch anime lmao /j

sorry for necroing the thread, but i had to share something.

watching at 2x is something i don't do, i'd prefer to drop it if i'm not interested in giving it my time.

but them, someday i was in a discord server and i discovered people gone beyond.

they watch 3 or 4 episodes at the same time, in separate windows.

So, when we think people reached the peak of crazyness.... well, we're wrong.

Nothing to be sorry about, as it's alright if you revived my forum, (it's October after all 🎃).

Wow, there's people trying watching four episodes of anime at once or at least "trying to watch them" at once? ::huhsonic
Now that is very crazy, specially if all four are subtitled or even dubbed, though I prefer watching one episode at a time in 1x speed.

These people are not actually watching anything, they are just trying to get attention. I imagine they probably have stupid Twitch streams and youtube channels where they spend more time talking to people in the chat than actually watching what's on their screen. These people aren't real anime fans.

And anyone who watches anime at 2x speed (and dubbed) is also not a real anime fan.

the "who watch dubbed is not a real fan" part i personally wouldn't agree with you.
i don't watch dubs, however (and i think U.S. dubs for anime are horrible, maybe the worst in all world).

but the part about "they aren't watching anything" and are not anime fans, just whores... i totally agree

I knew of few cases that acted like that, unfortunately. What's the point to speedrun movies, tv series and/or anime and therefore not properly enjoy the intended pacing and the goddamn OST. I can't respect the "I don't have time for this" because at that point I would automatically reply "but you still manage for speedrun shit instead of tasting it".

Man some of you guys are making huge sweeping generalizations here.

I can't speak for the people claiming to watch 3-4 shows simultaneously, since that's a bit off-topic and is a level of focus I don't believe is even feasible by my standards.

But personally I find nothing wrong with watching shows sped up to any degree as long as you can fully understand it (this is an important distinction). I use 1.5 for most anime and 1.75 mostly for older 70s-80s anime without much heavy dialogue and lots of recycled transformation/combination footage (2x is only for extreme cases). For shows with English audio I use whatever lets me still hear the dialogue comfortably.

What does the guy who watches at the intended speed have over me? Nothing! I watched 5 or more episodes with full understanding in the time it took him to watch 3 and I have time left over to get other things done with my life. "Director's intended vision"? You mean the one where they have to use any means necessary to cut costs and pad out the anime episode runtime? Nobody's life was enriched because they saw a kamehameha/speedline punch/lighting crackling around a character for 5 seconds instead of 2. If a music track stands out to me, it will linger in my brain regardless of playback speed (hell some tracks sound better to me sped up XD ).

It seems to me that some of you have a problem with people giving bad takes on anime rather than how fast they're watching them. If it's like 1 or 2 bad apples, it's fairly easy to ignore their opinions or point out the flaws in their reasoning. If it's a bunch of people, you're probably hanging around the wrong corner of the internet and need to get the heck out of dodge.

You could always quote everyone's message for each person you have to disagree with, for the record. The "+quote" command on the bottom-right of each post is there for a reason.

And about your reply: no, it doesn't afflict me or anyone here how someone decides to ruin-ehm, to watch anime. It's their decisions. (unless someone wants to prove it's a smarter idea by making videos where they explain how to watch anime in the "most optimizing way possible". Like that idiot that RubberRoss commented once on Twitter, which was so satisfying:)
Ok.
And?

I/we can still judge and think it's a horrible way to enjoy what is literally entertainment. Why even accelerate it "sensitively" in the first place then? For gaining 5 minutes so you could brush your teeth and fall asleep perfectly timed (as if someone is running with your breath down your neck)? What's the point? To be safe from spoilers?? Being part of any fun/cool club to get in, just for the sake?

With games I can understand accelerate (mostly in RPGs tbh, I have no idea how everyone could do in most other genres) the tedious parts to make it to the point (hell, even Square Enix's remasters and ports allow that).
But animes (just like shows, movies etc.) aren't books or mangas where you have a natural reading speed to go. So idk, normalizing speeding up what is set on a regular speed sounds really awful (and IMO lame. I think it's much cooler to watch as intended), if you ask me.
Also of all examples you had to choose, you had to get the TOEI Animations one(s), notorious for being slugfests LMAO. Please, get real.

The ost thing accelerated being potentially an improvement over the regular one is a joke argument that doesn't deserve to be confutated since it speaks by itself. We can agree to disagree and moving on.

tl;dr bad takes tbh

Like what Gabrinius said, I also disagree with this, as people are still anime fans whether they watch anime subtitled, dubbed in any language and or without subtitles, (I'm not counting Japanese since of course that's how all anime starts off, being voiced in Japanese until companies decide they want to dub the anime in other languages).

To me this isn't watching the anime, as it's going by too fast to try to get a general idea of what's happening and which character is saying what at any point in the episode. I never will understand why people want to rush through watching an anime unless they want to get another anime completed to increase their overall anime watch count. Watching anime in 1.5, 1.75 or beyond that makes no sense.

I didn't need to quote anyone because most of the posts in this threads were saying roughly the same thing.

Also, your judgement is impaired by making assumptions about people's intents that are all negative. I can't claim to know the people OP is complaining about or exactly which anime they're watching at double speed. Most of them are probably skimming through the anime because 2x is not feasible for modern talky shows.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that this topic is basically the video equivalent of "Why do people cheat in single player games" complaints. Everybody wants to collectively get their knickers in a twist without trying to think for five seconds that there might be some merits to the method.

Your "too fast" is my regular pace for most shows. Most shows are very feasible so long as you focus and don't get distracted easily.

i still think that if the kamehame-rá doesn't deserves your 5 seconds, there's no point to watching the show (it doesn't deserve even 1 second to me). I would simply go search for something that deserves my time.

but again, if you are happy with it, life goes on.

Just to conclude: the equivalent of this, but unironically. And probably double of the speed as well. :loldog

Only if there's a lot of jiggle but not to skip through it necessarily

No, I have never done this except for the times back in the day when it was a VHS being played at the wrong speed. I haven't watched a dub since the 90's. Also I need to be able to differentiate every word spoken in Japanese so I watch on normal speed. If I wanted to try something like this I would just put on a drama cd, a podcast or listen to the massive list of Japanese vocabulary on my phone.

No. But if I'm watching a series that has already ended depending on the time I have available I have watched up to 10 episodes a day. Like I couldn't watch the whole series of Soten No Ken when it came out because a changing schedule so I decided to watch the whole thing as quickly as possible and one sunday I watched 10 whole episodes in a single sitting. I'm planning to, hopefully, fingers crossed, do the same for Regensis this summer.
