Anime Do you watch anime episodes in 2x speed?

I imagine people doing this must be watching dubs (I use the term “watching” liberally, they’ve likely got it on in the background while they look at their phones), because doing this with subtitled shows sounds effing impossible. I had enough trouble reading what the guy was saying in The Tatami Galaxy on normal speed, thank you very much!

I think they also might have subbed anime on as well when they do this. They may also not have subtitles on when they watch in 2x speed and I wonder if anyone that replied to this has been surprised that some "anime fans" do watch anime in 2x speed.

I remember doing it once and it was when I was watching Naruto. The amount of flashbacks they were having was getting annoying especially in the later parts of the series. I guess that's what happens when you binge a show that was aired weekly. It was still a bit much for a recap.

This is abnormal behavior enabled only by some bizarre desire to fill out anime watchlists. Depending on whether the show's good or bad it's either insanely disrespectful to the show (for refusing to watch it on its terms), or to the viewer themselves (no matter how quick you may be, you're still wasting time on trash anime).

I agree. Those people might have a few thousand anime on their watchlist in a sort amount of time due to that, though it's a guess.

I'd also say by watching on 2x speed those people are going to be missing out on what's going on in each anime episode, of course making them give the anime a low score because of that.

Yup, i'm a throw my 2 Cents in
I Never even thought about watching Anime at 2X or more, why? what's the point? i Enjoy the Artwork. and Most anime i watch seems like it's over to soon as it is.

I Never go by the 3 Episode rule, Gen if it Doesn't hook me in the First ep, it just won't.

I Rather watch Dub's, yes i know Blasphemy, but, in the Last 10 year's or so, Reading the Sub's with the Movement in the background, Gives me a Massive Migraines, Dunno why. just Does.

And as to the 2X speed again, i Don't have a Watch-list, to fill out. if i see something that looks interesting, i will get the first Ep Watch it then the Rest if i like it.

But as @Patches and @DanVzare Said, probably Due to a ADHD/Lack of Attention and YT Shorts/Ticktock.
Most 15-25 year olds Anymore have no Attention span i have noticed.

Then again, maybe I'm just Old XD

i read the thread title i was like 🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
then i read the posts i was like wait wth they're serious
I mainly made this forum since I've seen other people on other sites mention that they do watch anime episodes on 2x speed, due to the plot being "boring" or the pacing being "too slow", which isn't even watching it, so I don't know how they'd ever consider them to be an actual anime fan that way. I didn't know people even "watch" anime in 2x speed, (I bet if there was a way to watch in a higher speed that they would).

Sometimes to me the anime episodes seem too short and over fast, (even though it's a 23-24 minute episode) and some seem to last longer; there's a lot of good artwork in the many anime that has came out over the years. Could that be because maybe a lot of things happen, not much happens in the episodes or possibly that you're really into the episode so the time goes by quickly?

I'm mostly a dub watcher, since that's how I first watched anime. As for anime that isn't dubbed, I've gotten use to looking at the anime, then the subtitles and back to the episode to see what's going on. You could say I just read the subtitles as one big chunk or something like that and then I look at what's going on on screen. It's ok to prefer dubs over subs, but it's each person's own preference.

Those people in that age group may not have a good attention span, it's hard to say since I can't speak for them.

Sorry, even if the anime objectively sucks, i refuse to do such thing because i want to know every detail of it so i can properly articulate why i don't think its good, much less something i actually enjoy, it feels downright alien trying to watch something speed-up to me.

Some would argue that "it saves you time", but if you want to do something like that to save time, do something even shorter.

I'm glad I'm not the only that thinks it's sacrilegious to watch an anime in 2x speed. Like, why are you even watching the show if it's in 2x speed. The music, animation, voices and sound effects would all be unpleasant to listen/watch.

I guess the closest thing to that that I have done is when I was watching Dragon Ball Z back when I first started watching anime I remember some of the fights would take forever like Friezas fight. So I would occasionally skip 1-5 minutes here and there.

Idk, I guess Dragon Ball Z was a special case

Of course no, but when I feel bored I do the unthinkable:
I press 10-second forward button repeatedly

I personally don't really understand why you would play it on 2x speed, it's a bit unusual. I'm not saying this to be rude, but I think some people (not trying to make a huge generilazation, everyone is different with how they watch or consume media, young and old), seem to have lower attention spans compared a couple of years ago (perhaps it's always been this way? just my perspective)

If you happen to watch it on 2x speed, you can go ahead and do it, I can't really stop you, but I feel like it would really ruin (I think this is important in everything) pacing and timing, similar to how some people watch silent films on 2x speed. For example if you sped up a Charlie Chaplin or Keaton movie (example I'm using; The Gold Rush), you lose that timing of the jokes, physical humor, slapstick and emotion. It leads to it falling flat, which would end up ruining it if you play it on 2x speed, it goes against the vision of the work of how it was usually intended to be watched normally. That's just my opinion, and again I don't want to put others down or make anyone feel bad for playing it on 2x speed, i just want to point out that there is a chance you might be missing out on something unique. I feel like it would be a bad/detrimental habit to watch media on 2x speed.

I've seen that some "anime fans" on sites say that they've watched anime episodes on 2x speed due to the "pacing being slow". Do you or have you ever watched any anime episodes in 2x speed?

I haven't as I don't see a reason to fast forward an anime episode, since I'd be missing out on what's even going on.
fvck that hahahahaha

There is no way in hell I'd ever watch or listen to something at any increased speed, nor would I skip episodes or fast forward (unless it's a pointless recap only episode). I guess I'm just not too concerned with watching large amounts of things. I'm totally content that my consumption of anime, movies and whatever other kind of media has slowed down.

thinking about it i guess i do agree with the sentiment. so many things to watch so many books to read so many games to play but so little time. i wish i were immortal

All of my most favorite anime are the ones that don't have a shit ton of episodes to begin with. Stuff like Kill la Kill, Panty and Stocking, Space Dandy, GITS Stand Alone Complex, Black Lagoon, and recently Durarara. But I feel like the longer ones are good when they don't have a ton of filler. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember Inuyasha having too much filler, just weird or outright kinda bad episodes. I want to watch Dragon Ball again but man does that have a ton of filler, and I know my ass will never have the patience to sit through One Piece despite liking it as a kid. It's weird to me that people would watch at 2x speed though. Sometimes things like this is about the experience imo, and I don't think you could get that same experience the way other fans would if you just skip or fast forward. This is a thing I see with the Yakuza game series. People tell new fans all the time to skip 3 because the combat is hard and the game is old. That game has one of the better stories imo and it sucks that newcomers just skip it because some dude who got mad that he couldn't spam buttons told them to skip it.

If anything I'm in the opposite camp. Catch me rewinding back 5 seconds every couple of minutes to discern whether they said きて, きいて, or きって. I really don't mind slowly working through a series though? I'm not in a rush!
