Do You "Save Scum"?

I mentioned in a drive-by comment that I can't yet beat Deus Ex without over a hundred saves, so... yes. Well, it depends. If a game allows me to save at any time and has several slots, I'll usually have a system like the first save is outside of the dungeon, then the next few are within it so I don't lose too much time if shit happens. And if I get in deep and have no hope for winning, that first save will pull me out of the fire.

Regarding save states, I usually won't abuse them unless I'm getting frustrated or if it's clear I'm not getting through legit this decade.

It depends on the game.

In RPGs with dialogue choices I usually don’t load saves after committing to choices because that usually ruins the roleplaying aspect, even if I accidentally managed to get local bandit Glup Shitto drawn and quartered when I just wanted to slap him on the wrist.
But I definitely quicksave/quickload a lot in certain games that allow it, especially if there’s an encounter that I want to go a certain way.

When I played the Gothic Remake last month my quickload finger sure got a workout I tell ya hwat.

Never, not in a million years, the sun will have exploed by the time I let a game get the better of me. Mamma didn't raise no quitter!!

Not one bit no. I want the game to rip my skin off if that's the intended experience.
Its either that I persevere, come back another time, or give up.

The only times I care about save states is to simply record my progress for next time. I don't use them with the intent to undo mistakes. I also don't really think beating the whole game in one sitting is a fair rule in a lot of cases.

Every time I play an old pokemon game. I save so much money on pokeballs!
The pokemon broke free? Load state. Caught? Save state.
It makes it so much more enjoyable for me.

Are the old Pokemon games really even hard enough to warrant this? I never found them too challenging, but then again I never played one to completion.

No, but catching a Pokemon may be hard and mostly depends on the RNG.

Yes, I like to enjoy the games I'm playing. If I wanted to be tied forever to accidents and bad decisions I'd just play real life.

Also, I hate the term. Like a term someone deeply insecure, taking a fun hobby 'too serious' would come up with, then pass it off as a 'joke'. I don't have the mind set to think of loading an old save as bad, and even jokingly I'm not going to pick a top shelf degrading term like 'scum'.

"hey, you're a save state sub-human" like what?

For the most part, no but I do use it if needed. It just depends on the game itself.

No, I'd much rather let them die.

*Re-reads thread title*.

Oh...

Well, it depends on the game.

I must have played DX some twenty eight times, but I never felt the urge there because the game wasn't going to punish any of my - non-dumbass - decisions, so I just rolled with it.

I have saved manically in some other games, though.

Lmaoooo I thought the same thing when I read the title!!!

I don’t save too much, I’ll do it before a very hard part or if I just pass and hard part so I don’t have to do it again.
