Do you rewind or fast forward a lot?

I'll use rewind in the Sega Classics collection or any other console emulator re-release, but turbo is a must have in any form of emulation.

It takes level grinding out of classic RPGs which is enough of a reason to love the feature off the bat, but it also makes unskippable cutscenes basically skippable, or at least more manageable.

I'm not gonna lie, I love the fast-forward and rewind functions.

Rewinding is obviously cheating... but so is savestates, and I've always used them. It's about having fun, not playing the game the supposed "intended" way.

As for fast-forwarding. A lot of games (both old and new) are needlessly slow in places. Some people blame it on their ADHD riddled minds, but I've always been a fan of fast-forward functions in emulators. Even back when it was just a crappy frameskip option (hey, it worked). It allows you to play the game at your own pace.
Of course I wouldn't fast-forward during an important segment, such as a cutscene (unless it's boring me, in which case why am I playing it). But I most certainly will fast-forward when grinding enemies in a JRPG.

Funnily enough though, despite my love of the fast-forward and rewind functions. When I don't have them, because I'm playing the game on legitimate hardware, I barely even notice.

I'm very patient when it come to time you have to spend in games, so I've never fast forwarded. But if a game is even a little difficult I'm a serial save stater. Which is close enough to rewinding.

i tend to use neither. i like to roll with the punches (sometimes. ill save scum on very certain occassions) so i dont rewind, and i tend to avoid using fast forward even on old pokemon games cause i like to take it all in nice and slow and enjoy the vibes

I do rewinds because I don't have the patience to keep getting back to the same spot I keep dying in.

I usually use fast forward for easy random encounters on JRPGS, those were you can win just by spamming attack ya know. While for youtube videos nah, I always watch them fully unless there's an entry I know everything about already

Pokemon games I straight up *play* at 200% speed lol.

But I do use fast forward a decent amount for a lot of games. Not often for action games unless it's a common slow point. Like getting from Point A to Point B in Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field.

This is especially true of going back to Gen 1. I have a few physical copies and playing them that way feels so much slower when you're used to the modern games.

Never rewind because I go for Hardcore Retroachievements, but honestly I could not play most RPGs I love without being able to grind mindlessly with Fast Forward.
Specially Pokemon Yellow.

Pokemon is an Adventure game with some RPG elements.

If it's Pokémon, half of my gameplay will fast-forwarded. Otherwise, I don't use either.
I did use save states to complete the longer endurance races in Gran Turismo 4 (they go up to 24 hours, you cannot complete them in one sitting), if that counts for anything.

Sparingly with somewhat arbitrary self-imposed rules to when it's ok. I feel like I shouldn't have to "cheat" myself to enjoy a game. There's plenty of others to choose from instead.

Yah and also ya gotta revert the effects of living in a quick dopamine world! Sitting down for an hour and reading a book slowly helps too

Why read when you can fast forward an audio book at 3x, play video games and scroll through your tiktok feed at the same time? That's literally three times the fun! :-p
I don't do this btw lol.

Nah. I tend to try to stay away from emulation tools like that just to experience the games as they were attended to play, no matter how painful. I do use save-states when I REALLY have to close the game and go take care of something, which is rare.
