Do you like catching shiny Pokemon?

Fat no on the shiny hunting part. Personally, I enjoy just collecting Pokémon to build one ultimate party. Shiny hunting is just a time waste for me in the end.

I’ve never gone out of my way to find a shiny, except for one time in Scarlet where I wanted to find a shiny Lycanroc, which I did!
Other than that instance though, I’ve never ever seen a wild shiny in any game.

No... sounds like the most boring task ever.

I guess it would be cool to see a shiny pokémon in Pokémon Stadium tho.

I do like shiny hunt since Pokémon Platinum.

My first shiny was found on the wild. It happened while I was leveling up some pokés on Stark Mountain, when a strange skarmory appeared.
I thought: "Strange! This skarmory has green w..." PLIM! 😮
"What was that?". I decided to capture it to see it closely.
Then I look on the internet for more informations about a "crystal" pokémon and finally discovered about the shinies. Luckily I've decided to capture instead defeating.

I had few other shiny encounters over the years: ariados (HeartGold), panpour (B/W), lotad (Y), spearow (UltraSun), feebas (X) and more recently, hoothoot (SoulSilver).
Of course I got a lot more by using the pokéradar (Platinum, Pearl and Y), breeding and resetting (some legendary pokémon). My last pokéradar catch as a Ditto (Y), last week.

not really. the color palettes are sometimes interesting, but it's not fun to hunt for one. i tried about 300 times to find a shiny ralts in omega ruby. never got one. found a shiny corphish after i gave up and decided to surf around for fun. i also found a shiny pikachu in a pokemon hack. took a screenshot of it after i evolved it:

The only shiny Pokémon I ever encountered was a Caterpie within the first hour of Pokémon Y. I caught it and boxed it. And I think traded it to a friend.

every couple of years i decide to do a random shiny grind again, find what im looking for, remember why i hate grinding for shinies, stop doing it for a couple of years, and the cycle repeats! i remember one time i was grinding for a shiny zubat in pokemon x, and i found TWO shiny whismur, yet no zubat. best worst luck of all time?

I can take it or leave it. If I come across one I'll try to catch it but I'm not going to go out of my way to find one. To this day the only shiny I have ever gotten is a shiny Magikarp I bought in Pokémon Black,

I couldn't really care less. I definitely LIKE having the option to have alt-color palettes for pokemon, but the actual mundane act of having to shiny hunt - even with the modern conveniences that newer generations have added - is not for me. No shade thrown to those that dig it, I understand the appeal of mindless tasks that you can zen out to, but a shiny pokemon is not incentive enough for me.

probably because I don't really like pokemon games

I'm surprised to see how many people do not care about getting shiny pokémon.

You see, during the DS era I even bought a copy of Pokémon Pearl (I had Platinum already) just to be able to catch shiny porygon, one of my favorite mon, using the poké radar, which is a great mini-game IMO. It's so fun to try and catch shiny pokémon chaining up to 40.

The poké radar in Y/X is not that fun because there are few places good to hunt AND the chain breaks after you get one shiny.

if the shiny factor did something, then maybe people would care more. the best that shines can do is in gen 1 and 2; where a shiny had perfect IVs most of the time. games like moemon would benefit from shiny color pallets, like in the screenshot that i have posted up above. i wouldn't have used the raichu if it didn't have pink hair. a lot of shiny pokemon don't have good color sets. i think half of them are pale green.

I guess not many people really care about getting a single shiny Pokemon. Shiny Pokemon are pretty nice to have, specially when they have a really nice color palette swap, such as these below.

Of course there's other Pokemon with not so great shiny colors.

tentacruel looks like a baby hedorah. that's outright terrifying.
bellossom looks cute.

I've been playing Pokemon games since Blue and Red came out in the US, and outside of the story mandatory Shiny Gyarados in Gen 2 and the side story shiny Ponyta in PL: Arceus I've never come across a shiny pokemon in hundreds of hours of game tome. Sure I've never specifically hunted for them, but you'd think between when Gen 2 came out and now I'd have seen one in the wild with how much I've played Pokemon games.

Ah, I guess that I never thought about Tentacruel looking like a baby Hedorah and yes, have to agree with Bellossom looking cute; thought I'd add some pics to my reply to the other person above.

Have you played Pokemon Scarlet or Violet? If you do then do you know that there's some areas on the maps in the game that show where some Pokemon are as a mass outbreak? It's a good spot to possibly find a shiny variation, though it's best to get most of the mass outbreak of Pokemon defeated until the game gives a pop up saying that "there's not many remaining in the mass outbreak" or something close to that. then there's maybe a small chance that a shiny variation will appear.

I hope all of that made sense. 😅

I know that the Pokemon Twitter/X account does sometimes mention when there's a mass outbreak of a certain shiny Pokemon.

i hadn't check out many of the shiny colors for pokemon. i didn't know tentacruel was black and pink. if i ever catch one like that, i'm nicknaming it black or black goku.

I did catch it as a Toedscool in that one area in Pokemon Scarlet that looks like Fall in late September 2023.

Not really, sure I'll catch one if I found it in the wild but I won't go out of my way to actively hunt shinies. I'd consider myself lucky since in all of my Pokemon playthrough I'd at least found one shiny.

I've never bothered to shiny hunt because I don't have the patience. But I might try it sometime. I have seen a few random shinies. I accidentally killed one too. 😓

Catching them, sure. It's a neat little surprise when it happens.

I'm sure as hell not hunting for them, though.
