Do You Feel That Modern Games Deserve The High Price Tag?

To me it depends on how much honest work has gone into them. I am not one of those who just flat out rage at price´s over $60 just because it's expensive. If your game is worth it, the price is just.
The problem is graphics could be real to life, as much as people love "purdy graphics", what makes a game have value isn't graphics, it's gameplay and story, depending on the genre.

Absolutely not. For $60-100 I could buy a used console with every thing i need to mod it.

Really? How so? Kuro seems way more popular than the Cold Steel games.

As for me I stopped after finishing Cold Steel IV, I was too tired of falcom's writing and just didn't like the series anymore. Honestly I don't like any of the games that came after The Third, and the only one I genuinely love is First Chapter: I do like SC's story but 90% of it is padding, FC and SC should've been a single game as intented and I am extremely disappointed they didn't do that for the Remake
FC and SC are up there with the golden age JRPGs of the 90s for me. Some of my favorite in the genre.
I enjoyed Cold Steel 1-3, especially 2. Class 7 grew on me. But I didn't make it through 4 because I started to get burned out on the series (I played 1-3 almost back to back). I should really go back to it someday.

It really depends. Like I'd pay 60 bucks for a game, if it's really worth the money. But most games are already buggy on the first fay of release and lack a chunk of content . IMO 70% of modern games are way too overpriced (That's way I also prefer old/retro games).

No way, but also it depends on the game quality and the length of the game too. I'm not gonna buy a $60 modern game with bugs that should of been fixed before it came out.

I never said it was?
Your statement whether intentionally or not, came off as vague, assassin's creed shadows had a ton of work put into it, but most of it went to the graphics it seems, it certainly didn't go to the voice acting, that's my point.

That said i am working off of around 3 hours of sleep.

I said honest work. And I'm aware I was vague, but so were you.

On one hand I say no because I'm a stingy poor fuck, but on the other hand I know I'm gonna play Monster Hunter Wilds for a gorillion hours, so it depends on whether or not I personally get my money's worth, I guess.

I have a copy of Mario Party 3 (from 2001) which has a price tag of 699 SEK on it, which translates to 1,096 SEK today, and I sure wouldn't pay a hundred bucks for a Mario Party game nowadays.

Obviously no, but at the same time it's what it is. People have to be paid, but companies still rush/treat the devs badly (activision, ubisoft, etc.). Honestly funny how they're allowed to be bad that long ig. I guess for Japan it's different? Idk.

Honestly, depends
I would prefer no game get close to $100, but for specific conditions, I can understand $60 just a little

-New games with a shit ton of content (the newer Yakuza games, newer Xenoblade games)
-Long RPGs with or without DLC
-multiple games in one (for collections, I can definitely understand the price cause 2 for 1 ain't cheap especially if there's a lot of new content in it. That said the collection has to be good)
-fighting games but ONLY if the content in it is on the level of Smash, I'm not interested in laying down 60 smackeroons for a game that only really has Arcade mode and Online

and that's about it

There is NO reason something broken, buggy, low budget, or bare minimum should be more than $40. Persona 5 Royal on Steam has no reason to be $60, especially when Golden has multiple more new features and is still sold for $20. Even Etrian Odyssey Origins has more of a reason since they upped the graphics, added in some music, updated them to 5's QoL, and new portraits. Oh and of course don't even get me started on Nocturne HD, what a rip.

We also can't not mention cash grabs like Mario 3D All Stars, Concord, Skull & Bones, and the like. This stuff especially should not be as expensive as they are.

As for stuff made from practically abusing people, I'm ignoring it. Even if it's indie, I'm not looking to play a game where people were indentured servants (looking at you Chucklefish)

No, I am perfectly happy with ps1 and ps2 graphics. I don't know where all the money is going; but gameplay, writing, music is more important.

The jump from ps2 to ps3 graphics was not that impressive. After that its becoming meaningless.

I would love if a big gaming company did a proof of concept. Say make a AAA game but just use PS3 level graphics. So be able to make the game in half the time.

Grok is saying no official figures, but its calculating RE2 oriignal cost about 5-10 million. The remake cost 50 -100 million dollars.

Nocturne HD is crazy yeah, its pretty much worse than the ps2 version in every conceivable way except maybe the voice acting but that's debatable.
Persona 5 Royal I will *somewhat* defend being $60 on release since it was still fairly new at that point. If it was the original ps3 game from 2016 then $60 would be a crazy ask. But Persona 5 Royal was only three years old by the time it went multiplatform (I still would have preferred for it to be like $30 or $40 though). Persona 4 Golden was eleven years old before it went multiplatform, the original persona 4 was fifteen! It better have been only $20 considering they didn't do much for the multiplatform release outside of optimize it for newer platforms (although I wish they made the visuals closer to the ps2 version as its one of the things everyone agrees ps2 did better over Golden but off topic).

The Raidou 1 remaster seems a lot more touched up and redone to the point many are arguing its a remake instead of a remaster so at least it justifies its price tag unlike the Nocturne one lol

Raidou HD isn't out yet so I'm holding my thoughts on it personally, especially since I never played the original. And even when it is out, it'll probably be years before I actually buy it so that too

I can't believe I'm about to defend Mario 3D All Stars but at least that game actually did what it said on the box, you were able to play Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy (but not 2 because fuck you) on the Nintendo Switch. I can not say the same for Concord since it died 2 weeks in, making it unplayable or Skull & Bones, because it did not provide a AAAA gaming experience.

Still no reason to make it unpurchasable after March 31st. Fuck limited time exclusivity.

Imagine if Polyphony did this for a GT game. (we'd finally have more than 20 cars on track and actually good AI drivers)

Gran Turismo jokes aside, honestly, I can very much understand this, considering just how good the PC versions of some PS3 games look to this day, think Ridge Racer Unbounded or Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012.

I would also like to mention that one of the most impressive open world games released to date (GTA San Andreas) was released on the PS2. Imagine that but with PS3 grade graphics and even more and better gameplay. That is GTA V. The game you are looking for is GTA V.

Anyways, it's insane how much game production costs have ballooned, even considering inflation.
