Discord

Never use discord but im assuming its like Reddit but worse?
It can be like Reddit, just be careful not to join some random server or something.
My personal experience with Discord been good so far, albeit I only join friends group and niche communities with not many members in it.
Just tread carefully like you would any other social media or chat apps.

I don't use Discord, anyway have fun for those who want to join in.

My first and only true experience with discord was entering a server full of minors doing ERP and one of the mods tried to groom me thinking i was a minor and asking me to do "femboy pics for money lol xD UwU". I was tempted to send a picture of my 150kg hairy ass at that time, but i did better and just never used discord again
holy crap man that's fck up, i heard stories about that but damn.
i mostly use discord to coordinate with my pals and play games, i was never part of any real server so i gonna try it and see what's up over there

One thing I dislike about instant messaging networks (which is different from a proper forum) is how things gets often burried under a ton of unrelated messages whereas the first message/page is available in a topic.

Yes, you can pin messages and "search" (although the way it works sucks imo) but this is only a bandaid to a bigger issue.

And yeah, some indie games are using Discord and Twitter/X for promotion of the game but when you have no Discord nor Twix account you end up not able to watch.

I dislike the modern social network era that glorifies instant things over archiving. Even Tumblr had a dedicated archive page if you wanted to see something from 5 years ago without having to scroll down for hours.

To be fair the things i gravitate around(Breakcore, digital hardcore culture, scenes with dark heavy aesthetics) and which i tried to find discussions is something that edgy horny teenagers and adult creeps mix a lot unfortunately. I notice things have a tendency to be kinda similar when it's about anime related topics in particular too, that's why i usually don't want to follow anime related communities unless it's a more closed niche(and this beautiful forum right here)

Well generally speaking, the bigger the community, the higher the chance you gonna find a creep there, not to mention it's gonna be harder to keep a tight ship for the mods too.

Makes me glad my interest is extremely niche and I already make peace with myself that I won't be able to talk about it to anyone haha.

Ahaha, it's on my wishlist right now lmao. I was recommended it after loving Dorohedoro and i'm looking forward to reading it

I didn't just get one? these forums came like a year after the discord server?
I only put a link to it cos people asked about it.

Those who like discord use discord,
Those who like the forums use the
I like Discord, but it won't let me join?

Well im with you in away I hate Facebook, X, Reddit and so on.

But I honestly have no issue with Discord, Teamspeak, MSN or mIRC becuse with does you can make them much more close knit and if you so wish you can make where you only invite people you like and trust.
I genuinely miss Skype before it became trash.

I am still shocked to see the negative reception towards Discord, when I continue to say that it's your experience that depends on if the platform is good or not. Discord Nitro is most of the issues within Discord without mentioning the groomers, and "Discord moderators" that swarm the site. Discord Nitro isn't even that bad in comparison to something like X Premium where they LITERALLY take key features on what was made prior to the change from Twitter to X (I'm referring to everyone being able to make a community and the entirety of TweetDeck). The best that I can complain about Discord is the only thing that I can relate to when the fact that communities of any media are prone to be more toxic on there than any other platform. But there's a reason: minors. Minors primarily use Discord as the go to communication site, and guess what happens when you have a site where most of your player base is minors; stuff happens. Mostly inappropriate stuff.

If you want a good Discord server, all that it takes is always appropriate moderation. Of course, this doesn't mean hiring a bunch of strict mods that will go out of their way to ban other people for no reason, but to have people who are willing to moderate accordingly. Before I used to think that making your family/friends admins/mods were a bad idea because it can immediately be saying that you're cherry picking who assists you in the cleanliness of you sever, but now I understand why: Loyalty. Giving such a role to someone you know is not going to get the job done, and I believe the most crucial factor in maintaining a good one is the owner themself. I think that if they were people like Spike, the place would be a wonderful place. You could also say that limiting the server to 16+ is already good enough as most places have that as the minimum age requirement for the place, and while 18+ could be wonderful (like my personal server), it's in practice because whenever a kid sees an 18+ discord, they'll be curious to know what's inside of it because it's something that they cannot have access to through obvious normal means.

as i said before... giant discord server are too much for my silly brain :3
but smaller servers with my friends have always been mostly positive experiences, but you know, they are my friends at the end of the day.
i still open to hang out and talk through a discord server but honestly there are just two different experiences.

although sadly i have to agree, limiting information to discord servers sucks.
lets bring personal websites back, fuck social media xD

I didn't realize the discord existed before the forums, interesting. I'm biased towards forums, but that might be cuz I'm old.

Discord seems like it'd be handy for organizing community activities. Speedrun competitions, watching someone's stream, community game nights, etc. Things that need quick real-time feedback and interaction. Dunno if that happens here or not. You could indeed do all that through a forum and link to Twitter or whatever, it'd certainly be easier to coordinate on Discord though.

Discord brings drama to every community it touches, clique posting, tmi shit, off-topic shit becoming a bigger part of discussion - keep it retro and get something more civilized like an IRC channel.

Discord is Twitter 2, just as shitty

Not allowed to use it anyways

I went to a server and it had a whole sections dedicated to post pics of your arm, you know why

I just wanted a server about a game I liked

This was truly disheartening to see. You've basically stumbled upon the worst side of Discord immediately, and you didn't even know it at the time. I apologize that you had to go through this LMFAO......
