I went to a server and it had a whole sections dedicated to post pics of your arm, you know why
I just wanted a server about a game I liked
This was truly disheartening to see. You've basically stumbled upon the worst side of Discord immediately, and you didn't even know it at the time. I apologize that you had to go through this LMFAO......
The RGT discord is honestly pretty good, seems like how it is here. I lurk it here and there. Idk what it is but Discord intimidates me. Probably because of all the nonces. I usually get into ones that are based on a certain game. I still regret SaveMGO though. That community scares me. The clan I joined up with were about the only sane ones playing that game.

discord is an absoulte fucking plague so no.
After seeing a ton of discussion on the matter, I half rescind my statement. I haven't had any problem but I also don't really directly communicate on there and usually use it for the specific channels that have links to freeware or such. I like this set up more than modern social media so that's why I've felt more comfortable talking on here.

I hate the company and their AI Bs, but I am often there to hang out with my friends that life a few distances away from me. I hate the random friend requests and weird DMs.

there are times when I don't mind friend requests or DMs. Even from the server where I would toggle that on.
Wait, there is a discord ? I only see insta, youtube etc... in "connect with us", am I missing something ?
I only use discord for games (when I used to play fighting games etc...), and not often, but I would enjoy to join the RTG discord, even though I'll probably be lurking.

They just took it down, and you cannot invite anyone to the server anymore.
Might be for the best.
Apart of me believes that Spike saw this thread, and didn't want to asociate the Forums to the Discord server of the same name, and decided to disconnect it after the severe backlash it gotten from the users here. Honestly, as much as I want to stay in here with the 30k members, I don't recognize a single indivutial in there that are on there. No Waffles = No RetroGameTalk

I was just being a little silly; I was mostly referring to the staff here being different from the staff on the Discord, but I think that the staff here might just be one of my favorite kinds of staff on a site with rules that I've seen.

I don't even know, I just saw everyone vibing like normal, and I saw the server gotten removed. The backlash of having a RetroGameTalk Discord did really put things to perspective, and now it's all gone thanks to the Forums. I don't mind it much, as I just joined.

Just went to check it and noticed it was missing from my server list.
To be honest, if the whole thing got shut down, I wouldn't blame the mods after all the heat it's drawn the past couple days and reactions from people. For me, forums are the essential place for archiving and discussion but I think it was a nice outreach attempt to have a Discord and go through the trouble of moderating it and all that comes along with it. If it's going to cause headaches and draw additional responsibilities and also be met with such negative feedback, I couldn't blame anybody. We'll see if that's what happened.

Ah dangit, I wanted to join the discord server. I'm mostly active over there, but I am making an effort to be more active here because, you know, forums. Just wanted to have a secondary lifeline to here in case of another server outage like the one we had a couple days ago. Would be nice to have a place to see live updates if anything went wrong.
