Let's just hope that none of trolls & bad actors end up here.
Same, I'm morbidly curious now.I didn't even know there was a discord and now I'm so curious as to what the hell was going down on there lol
I believe a forum like this is probably easier to moderate than a Discord. Everything stays in an organized fashion, easy to check up on, doesn't fly by a million chats a minute to be lost to the infinite scroll. Requires a signup on this specific site, not open to anybody with an existing account.Let's just hope that none of trolls & bad actors end up here.
I know, but a few people that I blocked on discord might be here.I believe a forum like this is probably easier to moderate than a Discord. I moderate a few Discords (including my own) but it's all for streamer friends of mine with consistent communities. Pretty much everybody in the Discord I know from interacting with on stream. Moderating a Discord with many hundreds of people who can follow a link on a website and hop in at any time, it's easy to see how the difficult side of Discord to moderate can show itself there.
I'm not sure if you'll read this reply, and I wasn't part of that Discord, but I just wanted to say I sympathize with your thoughts considering I was in a similar boat a few years ago (Long-term Discord Mod, tried to make a server a neat place, and it was gone in an instant). If anything else, do know that you are welcome here and I'm sure there are some willing to speak to you about those kind of things. I know I would.I was a moderator there for about a year, and I put a lot of time and care into helping out. It wasn’t just a server to me—it was a space where I got to connect with people who shared my interests, where conversations could spiral into deep dives about forgotten classics, where I felt like I was contributing to something meaningful.
I’m left feeling a mix of loss and confusion.
I don't really know what to say at this point, but I do know that I’ll miss it. I’ll miss the people, the discussions, the inside jokes. I don’t know if anything new will take its place, but if anyone from the server sees this and wants to reconnect, feel free to reach out.
Just wanted to put these feelings into words. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for your hard work, friend. ?I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write this, but I feel like I need to put my thoughts somewhere. As most of you probably know by now, the Discord server is now gone. It’s strange—one moment, it was a place where we all shared our love for retro games, chatted about obscure finds, and built a little community, and now…it’s just gone.

Best of luck to you, Spike.
I was in it for certain posts theyd make. I don't even know what happened but I'm sure it was rough if it had to shut down. It was probably for the best.I didn't even know there was a discord and now I'm so curious as to what the hell was going down on there lol
There was some things said about it in the “User Graveyard Memorial” thread, I don’t know much else. I did see some digs at each other in my extremely short time there but just looked like play fighting to meSomebody spill the tea. What were you weirdos doin in there?

Indeed.
Thanks man,I got bashed there for asking simple question(asking some translation tips and whether some game like Queen Road roms for PS1 is already uploaded here, since if not I want to know how to upload the roms to this site, even that simple question can get people angry there. To be honest it got out of control in my opinion, i've seen things done that do not represent me. I've always tried to treat people fairly, I didn't always succeed and I'm truly ashamed for that.
I respect all opinions, as long as you don't break the written rules we decided upon I'm happy.
The treatment of some users in that discord wasn't acceptable to me and I can't in good conscience have that going on and do nothing about it. The amount of time it would take to run it as I would like to doesn't exist in my day to day. I can however run this forums much better. So I rather consolidate users here if possible.
its just depend of the amount and the quality of moderation (and the public), thats allSpike from an outsiders perspective it always seems like you do as much as you can to be helpful, it's for the best if it become uncontrollable. Discord communities are really hard to moderate and honestly after a certain size they just become an leviathan that attacks everything, I'm always very wary of them. They tend to attract the worst predators. It sucks.
I'd love nothing more than to agree with this, but I distinctly remember a site I was an admin for getting its own, private and separated Discord server and imploding after a few months. In hindsight, they probably should have appointed forum staff as moderators, but they wanted their own thing and it became a mess.i agree this is a somewhat full time job, but once you have a certain type of public, they kinda auto moderate themselves and newcomers
