Discord server shutdown

I hope you do! I know you and I don't chat much, but I do like your company and everything! At least the fourms is good enough for me. I just need to be more active in it.

Looks like someone not affiliated with Spike just made a Discord server based on CDRomance.
That's nice and all. I feel like me personally I wouldn't join it since it isn't official. Hopefully it's not toxic though.

To be fair, most (sizable) Discord servers usually end up as eventual dumpster fires. After hearing about what was happening with it the past few days, it really was turning into a kaiju where the only option was to launch the nukes. It's even tougher when it's clear that finding a legitimately good moderation team on Discord is a genuine rarity. It is what it is.

The amount of time it would take to run it as I would like to doesn't exist in my day to day. I can however run this forums much better. So I rather consolidate users here if possible.
Would you make another attempt at it in the future, assuming things do lighten up on your end? Just asking out of curiosity.

I frankly think a conversation about everything would have made the most sense, but I understand the rationale honestly. By the end of things I felt like it was kind of hard to figure out what made the most sense or how to make the server work, but ultimately I think the discord server being gone is for the best. I do think a some of the conversation on the forums weren't necessarily honest or accurate to the state of the discord server, since there wasn't a lot of overlap between users here and users there. The main overlap between the two were people that were banned complaining about it on the forums, and making things look worse than they really were.

Either way, it was a wild ride and I made some pretty great friends from the experience, so I don't regret it. I appreciate just being able to be a part of the legacy of a website and community that has meant a lot to me for years. No real hard feelings on my end, and I hope all is going well for you Spike

To be honest it got out of control in my opinion, i've seen things done that do not represent me. I've always tried to treat people fairly, I didn't always succeed and I'm truly ashamed for that.
I respect all opinions, as long as you don't break the written rules we decided upon I'm happy.

The treatment of some users in that discord wasn't acceptable to me and I can't in good conscience have that going on and do nothing about it. The amount of time it would take to run it as I would like to doesn't exist in my day to day. I can however run this forums much better. So I rather consolidate users here if possible.

There's no need to be ashamed dude, you already do so much for free

That's what it seemed like to me. Like I said elsewhere I didn't have any problems myself, but I also lurked certain channels only, so I didn't see everything. I just hope it doesn't get rough over here on the forums now. Which I doubt will happen but we shall see.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write this, but I feel like I need to put my thoughts somewhere. As most of you probably know by now, the Discord server is now gone. It’s strange—one moment, it was a place where we all shared our love for retro games, chatted about obscure finds, and built a little community, and now…it’s just gone.

I was a moderator there for about a year, and I put a lot of time and care into helping out. It wasn’t just a server to me—it was a space where I got to connect with people who shared my interests, where conversations could spiral into deep dives about forgotten classics, where I felt like I was contributing to something meaningful.
I’m left feeling a mix of loss and confusion.

I don't really know what to say at this point, but I do know that I’ll miss it. I’ll miss the people, the discussions, the inside jokes. I don’t know if anything new will take its place, but if anyone from the server sees this and wants to reconnect, feel free to reach out.

Just wanted to put these feelings into words. Thanks for reading.

Best of luck to you, Spike.

biggest issue I notice allot on discord and on reddit is that dear god moderators become power hungry and is always biased on with their own personal feelings and always take friends sides in matters.

If some one out right breaks the rules ban them even if they are your friend. Secondly if you don´t like some ones opinion just ignore them you got no right to ban them just because you disagree.

If you can´t stand that others don´t share your opinion then call your IP and tell them you got no need for internet and never leave the house. People will always think differently than you and your not special nor the center of the universe you are just one in 8,025billion people.

But man one dude killing of a server sharing his opinion damn.
