Game Description:

Cut the Rope is a Puzzle video game published by Chillingo Ltd and developed by Abylight Studios, ZeptoLab released on October 20th, 2011 for the DS.

This is the classic iPhone/Android physics based puzzle game ported to DSiWare.

In the game, players must feed a green monster named Om Nom with candy. All the while avoiding obstacles that would ruin the candy and collecting stars to unlock more level packs. You can skip levels and revisit them later, but you'll have to go back and collect the stars if you don't have enough.

The game is exclusively controlled using the touchscreen. As such you will need a device with a touchscreen or mouse/touchpad in order to properly play it. As you can see from my screenshots of me getting all 3 stars in the first level pack that this game is totally playable with just a basic laptop touchpad (might even be easier than with a mouse depending on what you're used to)

How to Play:

(Using the MelonDS DS core in RetroArch)
  1. Make sure you have the MelonDS DS core installed in RetroArch (the one that has DS twice in the name, it's the better one imo)
  2. Download the bios files required for DSi emulation from this page (you will need to find NAND versions for the region matching the version you get)
  3. You will need to rename the files according to what the Core Information page for the core in RetroArch says. With the core loaded go to Information -> Core Information from the menu to see it.
  4. The bios files go into your RetroArch System directory (C:\RetroArch-Win64\system if on Windows with default install location)
  5. In Core Options for MelonDS make sure that Boot Mode is set to Direct instead of Native in the System section.
  6. Change the option in Screen -> Layout #1 to Rotated Left in Core Options in order to display the screen properly.
  7. Load the zip containing the .nds file and the game should boot up and play fine.
Included are .cia versions that can be installed on a custom firmware enabled 3DS using FBI.

When tablets were first coming out, i remember this effectively being the demo for it... Seemed... childish.

Only thing I dislike in this version is that it doesn't support multi-finger meaning some puzzles become more difficult than on iPhone.

the 3ds version of cut the rope had all three variants into one package. too bad they didnt follow up on the switch. probaly it did put on wrong publisher i guess.
to be fair, by the time the switch came out, this game was super dead, pretty much no one was playing it anymore

What’s the point of buying this on DSi when you can get it for free on your phone?
Greed? Capitalism? Kids who didn't have a phone in 2011 and their parents didn't care about tossing around $5 on stupid shit? Those all sound about right lol It should have been free, but since they didn't have a way to monetize via advertisements I guess they had to charge for it. They should have priced it at $0.99 since the paid mobile versions were that price too. It being on DSi shouldn't have 5x the price

Wait, Earthworm Jim got ported to DSi?
Yep, check it out

Wait... if Om Nom can just be picked up and carried around then why do you need to cut rope for him to eat candy? Video game logic lol Like he'll still eat it if the rope is attached and it reaches his mouth. The hand being on the cover makes the scissors useless

Tru dat. I was just following up on the request to add Cave Story, Cut the Rope, and Earthworm Jim someone asked yesterday. It's late so I'll add Earthworm Jim tomorrow

Not a bad port, though it is not the ideal way to play this game.
