Currently reading (or last read)?

I'm about halfway through Joy Luck Club. Very straightforward an unpretentious, I like it a lot. Also reading my older brother's copy from high school like 25 years ago so that's neat. I want to read the Man Without Qualities but I'm already in the middle of two 900 page behemoths so I dont want to add another 1700 on top of that.

I've switched to reading The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett. Discworld rules!

Found a copy of "Tales From Ancient Egypt" at work and it's fun. Always loved Egyptian Mythology. Apparently it's a more fleshed out version of a lot of the stories that were in the Book Of The Dead (the book of the dead was basically for rulers who didn't have time for an insane amount of hireoglphyics in their tombs). Sekmet is amazing and it's a shame that Amen-Rah neutered her because she wouldn't stop being what he designed her to be; a killing machine

"The Runaway Diary" by James Patterson.

It was... Meh.

It struggles to find its voice and trust the reader to overlook a LOT of BS — not a good first impression for the author.

James Patterson is the only guy I've ever seen who's had commercials on tv for his books. But yeah, we get his books in CONSTANTLY at work, same with Amish Romance novels

Currently reading the Harry Potter series for the first time. I was a kid during the prime time the books were coming out and I only ever saw the first 4 movies back when they came out. Friends were into it but I was more of a Lord of the Rings kid. I'm currently on book 6. A lot of people say this is the best one. I actually like it the least, a lot of teenage drama. Understandable as the characters are now 16-17 years old, but it's still annoying.

5, 6, and 7 aren't as strong to me personally and I re-read them the least

I can't stand train settings, but this one's growing on me.

I started reading Parasite Eve. It's actually quite good, especially considering the author is a pharmacologist and this was his first novel. I'm about half way through and it's more of a psychological drama with thriller elements but Eve yet to fully come to form so I imagine it's gonna get more surreal.

I would love to read Parasite Eve, but it is very expensive used and I hate reading books online

Im reading through all of One Piece. I am only on chapter 72, but I have faith. I seen up to Ceasser but its been so spread out that I forgot a lot of plot. So figured, why not?

Have you considered getting a Kindle? I read about 85% of my books physical but use libgen for overpriced out of print bullshit, and e-readers have many of their own benefits.

One of my favourite slasher movies is 2001s Valentine so I recently decided to check out the book it was adapted from. Completely different, I highly recommend everyone to check it out.

Found a Internet Archive where i can download Geronimo Stilton books, i can finally get on track with them

Jack the Ripper: A Psychic Investigation

My dad gave me this book, it’s really interesting to read. Just as the title suggests, it’s a psychic view of the events.

Jack the Ripper: A Psychic Investigation

I always found that interesting. I read the book Portrait of a Killer by Patricia Cornwell and that was pretty good.

_____

I'm currently reading Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. It's a really good read, I'm almost finished. I used to read crime novels, non-fiction and fiction, but it got a bit much for me so I just read cozy stories that are free from violence lol

I'm reading Clive Barker's book of blood volume 1. i skimmed to the meat train story yesterday since it seemed quite iconic and enjoyed it albeit the character perspective swapping between Kaufman and Mahogany made me confused the first couple of times lol I am used to books kinda having a header informing you the pov changed.

Currently re-reading 'Suicide' by Éduoard Levé. One of my favorites. The author ended his own life shortly after it was written, but I find that it's a surprisingly optimistic rumination on life and love/friendship.

Currently reading gone to see the river man in my new deep dive of grimmer horror books after i finished midnight meat train earlier. I am about forty percent way through and the atmosphere has been interesting almost kinda feels like one of my favorite horror games in amnesia where there's these memory flashes that reveal this quite morally hollow protagonist's circumstances for the decisions she made, and this intense exploration scene involving a cellar that reminded me of times i went in one in amnesia lol so far its neat and surprisingly appeals to my horror game nerd side. i also found listening to silent hill inspired music is fantastic for making reading horror books more engaging for my adhd issues plus just makes the atmosphere better theres a surprising amount of music artists who emulate silent hill but its awesome.
