CRT Thread

Managed to grab an M6496 a few years ago. Bought a flyback replacement that someone bought but never used to fix the famous flickery issue, so this thing is going strong. Also using a 20M2MDU.

Near Boston MA if anyone was interested in buying. Still use these fairly regularly somewhat but the tubes are bright and I don't see them dying anytime soon. Love em.

Anyone have any experience with a GE 19GT319? There's one on sale near me for $50 and I'm thinking about picking it up.

i am not familiar with that one so i can offer little advice i am afraid

Only gaming. For some reason the big chunky bezels & 4:3aspect on tube tvs keep me dialed in, and it's so much more enjoyable.

I don't really have that problem watching shows or movies on a widescreen TV

Showing off a couple sick pickups from the last few months. First here is a Sony PVM-20M4U. Running MiSTer through it (Mother 3).

Next is an Ikegami tm20-17R. Wasn't actually looking for this one but happened upon it and couldn't pass it up. I mean c'mon. It looks like a space ship console.

Running MiSTer (Demons Crest, Castlevania IV, and RayForce).

Recently picked up a Sony KV-27FS210 for free! This thing is incredible, I've never had a Trinitron of my own until this year.

The geometry isn't ideal but some tweaks in the service menu made it presentable with some slight overscan. Wasn't too bad carrying it up to a second floor apartment with another pair of hands. I'm loving how the Aperture Grille mask looks for 2D pixel-based games in 240p!

4:3 TV shows and anime look lovely on a CRT, I absolutely prefer it! The video quality often looks too fuzzy or grainy in high definition, but just right in 480i on a tube. Definitely a lost art these days

I've been on a search for CRTs in my (not small) city for a few years now, and I have yet to find a single one. I do have a RCA TruFlat unit, which isn't half bad, but boy would I at least like the chance to look at something else. I suspect the good deals might be on Facebook marketplace, but I'm not about to make an account just for that.

I got really lucky and I had put out a want post on Reddit for a decent PVM. Someone messaged me and said they saw one on marketplace about 6 hours from me. That's where that Ikegami came from. I also had to create an account just for that. It's a bummer that it's necessary but it is what it is. You could alays keep an eye on craigslist. Not nearly as busy though.

Also, I have a 20" RCA TruFlat. Running into a PVM can look really great but I'd be mostly happy with just the RCA honestly. It's less fussy and not as depressing (and expensive) when things go wrong.

I dug a 32" Sony WEGA out of the local dump after it had been sitting upside-down in the rain and snow for 3 months or longer with a torn off cord. Got a couple friends to help me pull it out and i took it home and spliced a new cord onto it and plugged it in and viola, perfectly fine working CRT. Model kv-32fs320 for anyone curious.

i had a 720i crt at one point
unfortunately i got evicted in a 24 hour notice and had to leave it in a rush :c

I have a mid 1980s portable here made by Sashio I think (I'll have to double check as it's buried) that I found in my loft when I was leaving my old house a few years ago. Plugged it in and tried it and it worked although it only has COAX input, powered it up again when I got it out of storage and it was making a popping and crackling noise as well as emitting a burning smell and the screen was being weird so I quickly unplugged it. Shame really as even though it didn't have SCART it still would have been handy for something (I'd have found SOME use for it) but now it's destined for the E-Waste site unfortunately.

Got this one from a friend at work and had to find a universal remote for it. The stickers were already on it and I'm too lazy to take them off.
This is the exact model I had for several years before picking up the Trinitron I posted above in the thread. Enjoy, it's a pretty nice little set for being composite/RF only

I had a Sony KV-36HS500 that I'd use for TV, retro gaming, and even some HD games since it supported up to 720p/1080i. At 36", I thought HD sports actually looked better on it than flatscreens!

I eventually gave it to a friend because it took up so much space and the overscan made it difficult to play some HD games that placed the HUD and other options in areas that were lost to the overscan. I tried adjusting the overscan in the service menu, but unfortunately it could only do so much.
