CRT Thread

I have a 14 inch Trinitron at home as my main TV, I would like to explore more avenues and all for a Bigger TV and a taller setup with the TV closer to the floor.

I'll be watching 2001: A Space Odyssey on VHS this evening. Wish me a good time! It'll be my first time watching this classic film!

I’m so sorry, but I won’t be able to do so tonight. I’ve spent the evening crashed on my bed thanks to some health issues. I can watch it soon.

Absolutely bangin’ setup! Love the Doom stickers and Splatoon(???) stickers.

(The image is too small for me to tell if that’s really what I’m seeing.)

Thanks they are DOOM and Splatoon stickers. Odd combo but its all i had
I mean, I have Sum 41, The Offspring, Battle for Dream Island, and Gori Cuddly Carnage stickers on my CRT. Plus a “Sunsoft is BACK!” Sticker I got from U-Four-ia 2.

Can’t get a more odd combo of stickers than those.

I got this really cool Philips CRT for free from a friend of my grandad who was going to send it to the landfill. It is a 32 inch set with SCART, S-Video and composite. I love it ❤ (model: Philips 32PW9536)

and no way to repair them
i did play alot of ps1 and nes games on them

now i use emulator with filter

the crt filter in emulator is not perfect it still can not get the same color as a real ctr tv
but its better than nothing

Aw man, what inputs does your Trinitron have?
Thanks to the CRT database, I can directly show you!

Getting back there to get a photo of the inputs isn’t something I would like to do for a single post. That said, I’m always working slowly on my older games and making sure everything is in good order.

My previous TV, which I foolishly never identified, had a discoloration issue in the top left corner. I didn’t know about the relatively simple fixes that I could have taken at the time, and it was rather cumbersome, so I didn’t complain when my uncle found this trinitron in storage. So far it has served me very well! Much more reliably than my previous tube. I’ve been thinking about getting the 240p test suite on my Wii to try and diagnose any issues my set may have, and then buy a remote to access the service menu if need be. The picture has a tad more overscan than I think is normal, and seems to be angled to the right of the screen slightly too far, but I’ve not noticed with my own eyes any other issues.

As connections go, my aim is to have a variety. Component would be the standard for most systems hooked to the TV, but I want to work towards one day getting my Dreamcast through VGA and Saturn through RGB-Scart. My Genesis, which is a VA0, needs work with its connections. Ideally, I’d find a way to get stereo into the TV and not just through the headphone jack (which still sounds lovely~) and I would like to try and keep composite but get different cables that are nicer, as the image has noise that no other system that’s currently going through composite has.

SCART is basically Euro only. Not many TVs, specially for home consumers, had that in the US at least.

I've got one of these that needs fixing but I've just never got around to it because it's so damn big and the fix I'm looking at involves a lengthy recap and potentially messing with the power section. I used to have the list of them to order but lost it. I'd have to recompile it again too.
Shame cause I'd love to put that big ass set up in my retro-corner and watch some anime tapes.

I just purchased a Sony Trinitron KV-24FV12 (well, I got it for free from a neighbor) and I realised all of my retro consoles are PAL, and I now live in the States.

Any tips for good video converters would go a long way! I mainly use a Playstation 1 and the original Xbox. I've ordered just a standard conversion box off Amazon but I am worried it will bunk up the signal. So far I am just using a small LCD monitor that I also got free, but it just isn't the same!

So, I’ve found for nearly a decade that folks recommend RGB SCART as the ideal connection for most consoles. I’ve never seen it in person myself, but I’d love to try! I have a large variety of consoles though, and I value that the most.

Does a box exist that allows multiple consoles (five or more, ideally) all connected with RGB at the same time?
If not, would you consider it worth it in my case to just get Component/S-Video cables?

(I’m new to video connections for my systems, so any help is appreciated!)

I’ve seen this before…

there is some kind of modular doodad widgetmeister that lets you rig up something like that (saw it on retro rgb)

but just get scart cables and a scart to component box and it is really easy to switch out scart cables. Looks dank. diggity dank.

here is what i have:

its out of stock. Not sure why it had bad reviews, prolly stupid people? But get one like that. Works great

Found a wild Trinitron today! Seems to be a 12 incher. This poor baby is collecting dust in the recording studio of my college. I know who to ask to know if it’ll get a home or not. Most likely, it won’t be able to go to me, but I just want to make sure monitors like these can get a nice home!

Tragic update: the CRT has been waiting for auction for years. Since it’s University property, it cannot go home with me. That said, I’ll keep this monitor in mind going forward. Maybe I’ll sneak a PlayStation into that room and give the TV a Last Supper of sorts!

That's really sad :(
At least it hasn't been sent to the landfill...right..?

What's the wide one in the first shot? Looks a lot like a model my uncle had about 20 years ago. Also, call your doctor:loldog
The one thats layed vertically is a samsung, the one on the stand is a philips! The rest are philips, keymat and autovox

Wait why doctory? Lol

i use real hardware and wouldnt have it any other way tbh. this is my tiny little corner where tiny little idiots sit (me) and im currently playing pikmin 2 and rent a hero :)

I have a 29 Sony Wega that I got for R$60 (~$10) some years ago. It's not on the best shape, some rough blur on the edges but 80% os the screen seems crisp af. And yeah, this is me flexing the good old Elden Ring on the thing.

And not a CRT, but I have a Philips EDTV too, 480p output that I got from a donation. Unfortunately it has a power issue that sometimes the screen simply doesn't turn on. But for old PC gaming or everything with VGA output is the BEST visual experience I ever got.
