This place keeps letting the worst scumbag users get off scot-free for continuously breaking the extremely easy to follow rules, spreading vitriol and poison everywhere and at most getting away with a slap on the wrist, only to re-emerge a week later spewing drunken rants breaking rules left and right.

I’d say ”don’t feed the trolls” but the way the site is set up right now it’s like they’re being fed by design, and the rest of us are forced to just look the other way while trying to use the forum like normal people.

The mods are powerless to do nearly anything and keep getting the brunt of the flak because Spike doesn’t want to deal with the occasional angry email from disgruntled ex-members threatening to ”take action”.

This weak Reader Mode shit clearly isn’t working, and just lets toxic assholes keep waltzing around barfing everywhere, and just pushes more and more well-meaning and amiable users out because the trolls and schizos overpower them, and protects the worst offenders from any sort of repercussions.

There's an entire thread explaining levels and their privileges/limitations:

Ah, there's the problems. Turn that 25 into 50, and then add the entire forum on the "Cannot post" list.

Edit- Wait, that doesn't make sense, sorry. Just block the forums completely from new members for a week. That'll fix it.

But that's just me repeating myself from earlier. If a new profile is able to post in a forum as soon as it's made, then you're going to have troll posts. You gotta take that away.

A one week wait limit to be able to post for new members. New account? Sorry, gotta wait a week to post.
That would destroy the forum -- I sure as hell wouldn't want to join a forum that keeps me sidelined just because. And I know that because I once joined one with a three-day approval wait and I forgot it existed before that was done.

Everything moves way too fast online and competition for one's attention is constant and brutal, so we really can't afford to take it slow when that one thing you are looking for here could be easily found somewhere else.

In that case, due to VPN's and such, there is no possible solution to the trolling problem on RGT.

And I'm not trying to sound snarky or be snarky. Unless you take away access from being able to immediately post on here, trolls will always immediately post.

BUT, and this is important: the trolling problem is greatly exaggerated anyway.

Yeah but using it makes one feel like the others are talking to a ghost
That sounds like a you problem.
Kind of obnoxious that it turned into braindead post count-farming, though
Honestly I feel like the post count limits for ranks do more to cause low quality posting than a lack of mod powers.
I feel bad in saying this, but I barely remember usernames here, let alone the things they did. Especially given some people have been here under like 15 accounts and keep saying they're leaving forever only to return.
That's sort of the idea behind semi-anonymous forums. Personally I can't understand why people care at all about the opinions of random forum users. They're literally just a random user name and profile picture. I just can't fathom why people would willingly choose to let their feelings be hurt by words on a screen from a faceless person from who knows where in the world.

But you know what's incredibly funny to me? The first EVER RGT drama happened because someone accused us of turning into a "police state" (or at least of being way too harsh with our rule-enforcement).

But now, apparently, we aren't cruel enough.

I'm not mad, just amused XD

Personally it's whatever. I can see some BS and roll my eyes, and say "wow, what a miserable person this troll is, gonna report em" and move on. But I can understand wanting to combat them too.

My advice is to just accept the fact that, well, trolls will always be on forum sites. You can ban them, IP ban them, ban all the VPN's they use and they'll still come back.

Roll your eyes at them, report them and realize they're miserable shit starting dumbasses. Or don't, whatever.

You're simultaneously kinda clueless and correct at the same time.

What sparked my initial post has next to nothing to do with "trolling". Sure, there are people who just simply don't know when to shut the fuck up, and there are people who like to talk big but have the thinnest skin imaginable whenever their shit gets parried. Then there are a handful of paranoid narcissists who believe every single post is directed at them every single time, and jump in to defend themselves against ghosts.
But none of that had anything to do with why I made the post to begin with.

It had mainly to do with users who use the profile post section as soapboxes who post blatantly rule-breaking politically motivated content, act smug whenever they manage to bait someone into challenging them, then when it finally gets deleted, they just get incensed by it and return later to try their luck again because they can just wait and be a goody-two-shoes until the next time they go on a drunken bender. And also a pretty generous helping of braindead hornyposting. It is beyond embarrassing.

Just talk about fucking video games.
Also, as a side note, just because you don't see something happening, or you don't care enough about it at that moment in time, doesn't mean that it's suddenly not happening, or not a problem.

This is probably the last serious post I'll make on the matter. It's just tiresome.

It's a small minority hell bent on saying something is wrong with the site because...I don't know? I still have yet to see the raving trolls yelling the n word and spamming gore.

100 percent agree. We shouldn't have any political bullshit. It's a videogame forum.

So, Guinea talked about the possibility of a time limit to new accounts from comment.

@Tonberry @Pandaprewmaster325 any thoughts?
Won't work really , oh there can be real nasty people who are patient enough

Oh i know.....i used to pretend I'm the most furry or gay man on earth just to get to my targets then slam them repeatedly , you think all trolls and such people act the same mindless spam way? Oh no......some people will infiltrate and slowly walk their way up , others will hide the insult so well that the other side doesn't even know they are getting insulted (my favorite tactic from back in the day)

Honestly takes a troll to know a troll ::eggmanlaugh

This will succeed in filtering some people but it will also push potential decent users from the site , so it's not as practical

OK the original thread has been cleaned and resorted to shape , this thread no longer needs to exist

Mods please delete , no need to cram the site suggestions with unneeded stuff

Or close this one

All traffic to the original guys forget about this one

Honestly it's just about the off topic crap that happened on the original thread , things usually don't fly like that especially in such sections like site suggestions so i was a little bewildered by it ::sailor-embarrassed

Also, some people should be banned for the things they do outside of RGT. Cause not banning them for that stuff can cause problems. A friend of mines left RGT cause they got tired of the mods not banning bad people.
Depends on what it is tbh. Plenty of people who probably ragebait Twitter users but are normal elsewhere.

That's a fair point, actually.

I'm probably banned for life from the European Union because of the landslide of bullshit I used to post about XD

But no, our jurisdiction ends at the navbar in any case.

How would you know that people outside of RGT are even the same person at fault in this little witch hunt scenario? How would you know it's not somebody different under a similar account?

The problem is there's a big BIG line between ragebait and LGBTQ+phobia.......
I see the second one more here...

Well yeah that’s why I say it depends. I’m not entirely opposed to the idea, but I do think it would need to be clarified what offsite stuff to worry about and what’s considered a non issue.

Sometimes, people bring their outside behavior to places like this.

People always bring their behavior to places they go. It ought to be an expectation.

What you've proposed though is that mods should be policing the forum by looking at drama outside of it, figuratively opening a can of worms that invites random pearl-clutching drama queens who take offense to something elsewhere, finger pointing, and campaigning on doxxing or witch hunting other users.

Which again, it just begs the question, how you would even know somebody is the same account elsewhere? If somebody else named Zega Zonic showed up and was a huge scumbag on some other obscure forum, X, whatever; Who's to say it's actually you and you need to be banned for it?

Ultimately, the forum mods have enough bullshit on their plate to sort out already, and they don't need to invite more of it.

If people are too offended and scared away by bad behavior, it's not the forum's problem unless it's actually on the forum and it somehow isn't being dealt with, hammered, or shut down. That's ultimately the issue at hand with the concerns being raised. Dog piling other forum drama onto it is just a non-starter. Flame wars across the internet have always happened, and they will still always happen. There's no way to know and police everybody involved without a lot of volunteered stress and wasted time.

I guess you'll be a mod for this site, since you know everything.

They're not wrong, though. Let's say you got fired from a job for being late too much. Then you found a new job. Then that new job fires you too, because you were late too much at the last job. Doesn't really make sense, and that's involving job history where they could go contact old employers. A forum where people volunteer to mod, with no way of knowing where else anyone has ever posted?

Also, worth noting: not every post in this thread is somehow against you or attacking you, please just unplug for awhile. Go for a walk and breathe in some fresh air. It will help.
