Bring back the Ban

This place keeps letting the worst scumbag users get off scot-free for continuously breaking the extremely easy to follow rules, spreading vitriol and poison everywhere and at most getting away with a slap on the wrist, only to re-emerge a week later spewing drunken rants breaking rules left and right.

I’d say ”don’t feed the trolls” but the way the site is set up right now it’s like they’re being fed by design, and the rest of us are forced to just look the other way while trying to use the forum like normal people.

The mods are powerless to do nearly anything and keep getting the brunt of the flak because Spike doesn’t want to deal with the occasional angry email from disgruntled ex-members threatening to ”take action”.

This weak Reader Mode shit clearly isn’t working, and just lets toxic assholes keep waltzing around barfing everywhere, and just pushes more and more well-meaning and amiable users out because the trolls and schizos overpower them, and protects the worst offenders from any sort of repercussions.

I don't think letting the ban hammer loose is a good idea ( let alone banning IP yikes ), like I said yesterday u can get on readers mode fairly easy and for minor infringements , we know people that been banned and they came back peacefully ( yes I do know that is not the usual but still). Whoever if someone is abusing other members ( constant harassment, violent tendencies , threatening...) constantly and with newer accounts then yes I agree on the IP banning. We have this talk every so often and I don't know what you want the admins to do. There's no mass spamming or harassment that I can see. What changes from a mod being able to spam 3 warnings to put you on reader mode, vs having the ability to ban? Who is it we're making all these new rules to filter out? I want some examples. Spike and the mods communicate on a regular basis. If there were anyone that needed a permanent ban it's probably already been taken care of.

What new rules do we need? I'll take my shoes off at the door and stop leaving empty cans on the counter.

I don't ever catch the nasty exchanges I've heard about in here before the damage control comes in, but it saddens me seeing that it's getting to some of you and dragging you down.

I see the mods doing quite a lot but they can't literally always have an instant and perfect fix. It seems to me the best we can do is call out abuse or bullying together when we see it until they can figure out how to put out whatever fire is going on. Let's take care of each other!

New members can't make profile posts if they don't reach a certain threshold of interaction in the forums. I think your suggestion is way too harsh if we think about the whole purpose of the forums, but we could like raise the threshold at level 0 for one to be able to unlock profiles? Most drama happens either in profile posts or in already restricted areas of the forums to newcomers.
