Bootleg Consoles General Thread

I had this controller back in 2001 called the Super Player that looked like an N64 controller with a tumor with a joystick that doesn't move at all. Had around 3000 NES titles including Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt, with weird sound effects. I remember playing Nuts & Milk and Circus Charlie on it.

I've had many bootleg consoles over the years, most of which I think are currently in storage somewhere. Most of what I had were of the "Large number of games in one" variety, and every now and again they'd have something that I really clung to and enjoyed. One that particularly sticks out is the dreamGEAR 75 in 1, which actually has a handful of solid games on it, like Wonder Rabbit.

My favorite is the Dynavision 4, a dual slot nes on chip famiclone from around 1995. It was my first console and came bundled with a 7 in 1 one cartridge (Mach Rider, Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, Tennis, F1 Race, Pac-man and Sky Destroyer)

I always wonder what it was like being a kid growing up with bootlegged consoles. Like everyone in school being on team PlayStation or team Nintendo, and then you being team bootleg. And that's not a bad thing at all, because as a kid you are not necessarily concerned with something being official or "the real deal" - although that usually does guarantee a certain level of quality - no you are only concerned if the games are good or bad, and most of these consoles do in fact just come with bootlegged version of official games.

So I won't go "aww I feel sorry for you" to someone whose first console was a bootleg, rather I'd be interested to know what kinds of games they played, as these consoles are, again, a wild shoot.

This. This was one of the first consoles I have ever played. This was how I played the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES, and it has stuck with me ever since. Of course, I don't have it anymore (probably threw it out once I got my Wii), but its fun to look back on it.

I bought a weird variant of this at a gas station for $20 in like 2007. I think it had a ps1 style controller instead of the Genesis one but a 64 controller and gun. The box had random pictures from star wars episode 1 all over it. I bought it because i thought it was funny. I actually used it quite a bit a lot of the weird bootleg versions of games were entertaining in their weirdness

I have this exact one on the attached image lmao
I'm honestly not sure if full on bootleg or just one of those licensed Majesco/Jakks consoles, but this was my intro to videogames basically. The console itself was alright, if a bit inaccurate (mono audio, slightly slow gameplay, washed-out colors), smelled strongly of plastic and required one of those massive 9V wall warts to run.

I think the inclusion of MIG-29 as a pack-in game was just cruel. I was only 5 or 6 years old and had no chance of ever lifting off.

Later on, I got Sonic (the first one, I actually didn't know there were other Sonic games until I got a PC with an internet connection much later lol) and Tiny Toons Buster's Hidden Treasure. Still love them to this day!

My grandma also had a cheap DVD player with (terrible) NES emulation capabilities, and that's where I discovered Mario, Mega Man and other games like Adventure Island, TwinBee and Shufflepuck Café. The included controllers were massively uncomfortable and inaccurate, but I just had to deal with it because there was no other option lmao

Perfect time to show you the brazilian classic: Polystation!
View attachment 38858

Luckily I never had one, but many people had. It's lore is: Imagine you're a kid in the 90s or 2000s and you ask your mom or daddy who doesn't knows anything about games for a Playstation system. And then they go to the nearest thrift store and see this for a cheap price. There's your Polystation! It's a NES clone that released in 1997 and trolled a good amount of people. That's one of the funniest and most memorable bootlegs consoles in my opinion.
I had that one! It was a birthday present when I was, I think, 12.

The most remarkable thing about it was that the packed-in game (Legend Of Kage) wouldn't work on any other NES clone.

I have no idea why. It was the same fucking cartridge XD

Hi everyone I just merged the new bootleg consoles thread with the previous one we had sticked in this section, and changed the name to make it more inclusive to bootleg consoles beyond the chinese ones. :p

My first console ever was the Dynavision 4 mentioned by someone here before. It was also the final award from a TV gameshow, called Interligado. I dreamed about a Mega Drive but my parents couldn't afford that so I got this one, which was way cheaper. And I loved it, it came with a 64 games cartridge, full of NES games. :D

And I also played a lot of polystation with my younger cousin, and the best part is that it had waaaaaay more chinese bootleg games inside its memory. So thanks to her I discovered very young this mesmerizing world.
