3DS Best games to get for a modded 3DS?

On the DS I recommend 'Tingles Rosy Rupeeland' and 'Tingles Balloon Trip of Love' because they're actually really fun! If you're a fan of Zelda you'll like em.

On the 3DS I recommend 'Bravely Default' and 'Bravely Second: End Layer', two solid Final Fantasy-like RPG's by Square Enix.

Stuff you do NOT have that i would recommend (3ds)
-Fire Emblem Awakening (its fire emblem awakening, good story with fun srpg but admitedly not the deepest gameplay)
-Fire Emblem Fates (deepest mechanics of "modern" fe)
-Fire Emblem Echoes (my fav fe game)
-Kirby Planet Robobot (great kirby game)
-Bravely Default (weak back half but strong first half and excellent finale)
-Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds (best 2d zelda imo)
-Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (best pokemon game overall imo, loved the characters and their story)

stuff you do NOT have that i would recommend (NDS)
-Pokemon Black & White and Pokemon BW2 (best mainline pokemon games)
-Pokemon conquest (got me into strategy rpgs)
-Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky (genuinely great storytelling in a pokemon game with a cast you can get invested in, and the core gameplay loop is very addictive)
-Mario and Luigi Brothers in time and Mario and Luigi Bowsers inside story(2nd two parts of original trilogy of m&l which are all great)
-Kirby Super Star Ultra (best kriby game imo)
-Fossil Fighters Champions and Spectrobes Beyond the Portals (unique creature catchers that are the best games of their respective series)
-Professor Layton and the Curious Village (this was a charming, fun, and challenging in a fair way puzzle game that i really enjoyed, i should really get around to the rest of the series at some point)
-Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (has unique upgrade system for the series and while you can genuinely skip the story, every area has its own unique mechanics so the gameplay is always fresh)
-Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (best story in the series, and the panel system is nice and enhances the mission based structure of the game)
-The world ends with you (action rpg with cool vibes)
-LEGO Batman, Star Wars the complete saga, pirates of the Caribbean, and harry potter years 1-4 (all fun lego games on the system(
-Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Jedi Alliance (cool combo based star wars action rpg that uses the touch screen with out you destroying it unlike the pokemon ranger games which is also why they arent on this list)
-Metroid Prime Hunters (smaller scale version of the prime games if you are a fan of metroid series, its novel but the aiming controls take getting used to)
-Chrono Trigger (best game of all time in my opinion, great level curve with no grind, unique world, loveable characters, wonderfully told story with a satisfying ending, plus the ds version adds some cool postgame dungeons, just don't touch lost sanctum till postgame, for some reason it unlocks before then as an addition in this version but its levels are ment for postgame)

stuff you do have that i DO recommend
-Metroid Samus Returns (strong return of metroid series)
-Zelda OOT 3D (great port)
-Pokemon ORAS (i have a love hate relationship with this game but overall i would recommend ONLY if you are really into pokemon which you seem to be based off your list)
-Pokemon HGSS (probably the third or 4th best mainline pokemon game after bw and bw2, and for sure the best of the remake pokemon games)
-Super Mario 64 DS (childhood game of mine that i have fond memories of)
-Mario Kart DS (another childhood game of mine that i have fond memories of)

stuff you do have that i do NOT recommend
-SMT (grind and satanism)
-Pokemon DP (Platinum is just the better way to play these games)
-Monster Hunter (all grind no game)

Well, I'm not exactly an expert on either system but I got some recommendations. Also you should get an R4 in case you really don't want to mod your 3DS. I'll keep my post as brief as possible.

3DS Games:
- Beyond The Labyrinth
- E.X Troopers (The better version is on PS3 and Vita)
- Layton Series, This includes the NDS games.
- Rhythm Thief
- Sonic Lost World
- 7th Dragon Code:VFD
- Zombie Panic in Wonderland DX
- Lord Of Magna Maiden Heaven
- Project Mirai - Hatsune Miku
- Virtue's Last Reward

NDS Games:

- Theresia - Dear Emille
- Trauma Center Series
- Rhythm Heaven
- The World Ends With you
- Hotel Dusk & Last Window Secret Of Cape West (I highly suggest you use a walkthrough)
- Ghost Trick
- 999
- Sonic Colors

I can't remember too well the entirety of games I've played on the NDS and I still have to play properly games I did not mention in this list as for the 3DS. At any rate, I doubt you want to buy 3DS cartridges that have a price over 90 USD on Ebay, so get your console modded ASAP.

LBX is an all-time favorite of mine, great action RPG if you like robot customization, just a shame that the 2 sequels are stuck in Japan limbo.

All 3 Yo-Kai Watch titles are AWESOME and you shouldn't ignore the second and third ones, 3 is the peak of Level-5 with how much content it has (their latest game from some weeks ago is the only thing with more content than that).

For Megaman-likes:
-The 2 Gunvolt games (succesors of Megaman Zero for high speed action)
-Mighty Gunvolt Burst (the actually good Mighty no9, this is worth your time unlike that dud)
-The Legend of Dark Witch trilogy (a bit Touhou inspired, these are very underrated and unique and have on-the-fly weapon upgrades like Gradius, they are also really challenging)
-Gunman Clive 1 and 2, those got a unique mix of hand drawn/cell-shade art style and a wild west thematic, very pretty on the console's screen
-Blaster Master Zero (remake of the NES classic, it's a trilogy actually, but the first one is on 3DS, fantastic stuff)
-A bit of cheating, but Shovel Knight is in there, and it's fully fledged with all 4 campaigns, it feels right at home on the console.
-Also related, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon is an excellent NES Castlevania successor also on the system.

Now that the 2D platformers are out of the way, here are other niche titles that are very worth it:

-Sushi Striker: Very unique mix of align puzzle with real time action using entirely the touch-screen, you won't find anything like it.

-Ever Oasis: Very cozy game all about desert exploration for resources and town management, it was made by the same developers that made the 3D remakes of Zelda Oot and Majora's.

-Gotta Protectors: Tower Defense but pure chaos mixed with a parody of 8-bit art style and rpg tropes, it's quite wild and fun, don't ignore it.

-Taiko Adventures through Time and Space: Excellent fan-translated Taiko no Tatsujin game with a RPG styled storyline (idk how much of that was translated though), if you grab a pair of styluses you can replicate the drum controller with the touch screen and that's way more authentic than using buttons.

-Shinobi: The last entry before entering hiatus until the recent game, it's just as challenging as the genesis games, it never released on the eShop so that's why it's so unknown.

-Tales of the Abyss: Port of the PS2 version, it's considered one of the best Tales of games, just excellent mix of real time combat and a engaging storyline, there are some undub patches floating around that restore some things though.

-Project X Zone 1 and 2: How do I even begin uhhhhhhh... Imagine dozens of Namco, Capcom and Sega (a couple from Nintendo in the second one as well) characters from many franchises in one single connected and dense storyline with plenty of interactions between all of them, all packaged in a strategy RPG with some of the flashiest attacks animations in the whole console, you get these 2 things. It's insane. (It's almost the same thing as the Super Robot Wars games now that I think about it huh)

Also, check the trilogy of Sega 3D classics compilations, these include many Sega simulator arcades from mid 80s to early 90s and many hit Genesis games with a lot of wide screen options and 3D effects, all wrapped in a stellar presentation, it includes things like Outrun, Afterburner, Fantasy Zone 1/2 to Streets of Rage, Sonic 1/2, Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes.
(The first and third ones are in Japanese but still include the international versions of the games, this is in my opinion the best versions out there of all the included games, mix it with Genesis emulation via Picodrive and the 3DS becomes the ultimate Genesis machine)

Man, this is why I think the PSP and 3DS are a fire combination, there's so much stuff in both even beyond of the known flagship games.

You're going to need to hack your 3DS at this point if you want to experience the full library. The digital only games aren't available to buy anymore.

Here are some physical recommendations:

Fantasy Life: A light fun RPG. It plays similar to an MMO with combat, gathering, and crafting jobs. It has a cute story and aesthetic. It's grindy, but I found the grind fun. It also has a DLC expansion that adds new a new tier to the jobs and a new endgame area. If you really get into it, it'll last you a while. Even without the DLC you can't buy anymore, it's still a good game.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call: If you like FF music, you'll like this game. It uses touch controls for the rhythm gameplay. Curtain Call is a sequel to the original, but it has all the tracks from the original. Not much reason to get the first one unless you really wanna have both.

Warioware Gold: This is a compilation of microgames from the older Warioware titles along with some original ones. It even has some twisted microgames. Fun if you like Warioware imo.

Kirby Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot: Both are worth playing if you like Kirby games.

Some digital only games include Rhythm Heaven, Gotta Protectors, and Sakura Samurai. There's also a bunch of small digital games published Level 5 such as Crimson Shroud and Starship Damrey.

I've been sifting around the Digital only titles and they don't particularly interest me

Monster Hunter Generations is the worst Monster Hunter on 3DS. It runs at a lower fps than 3 and 4u, and has a very slow start and grind before it gets good. That's not to say it's bad. It's definitely an above average game, but, I'd suggest you play 3 and 4 first if you want to fight these monsters at their finest. Especially 3. The monsters in 3 are not the same without underwater combat. 3 is also a fairly accessible way to get into classic Monster Hunter, as Moga woods makes gathering easy.

I've only played the PSP version but this is pretty much the exact same I think.
Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure | Nintendo 3DS download software | Games | Nintendo UK

As for suggestions, here some I would suggest:
• Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
• Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
• Kokuga (same director as Ikaruga)
• Liberation Maiden
• Mario Party Star Rush (I found it pretty fun)
• Conception II
• Dead or Alive Dimensions

Slightly off-topic, but just how bad do DS games look on a 3ds? Is it over exaggerated?

I only ask because I'll get one eventually and being a creature of habit, I won't want to put my 3ds down to use my dsi(battery life notwithstanding)

It's been a few years since I've done this, but I don't remember it being unplayable or anything. It's probably a ymmv situation depending on your sensibilities.

I have a 3DS XL(modded) with a 512GB memory card, but I also have the original games. These are my recommendations.

If you have a modded 3DS, you can play in full screen by installing program.(FIRM Patcher)

I spent over 300+ hours trying to get all possible monster combination excluding wifi ones in Dragon Quest Monsters Terry's Wonderland. Trying to get rare random scout monsters was the most time consuming, especially when it kept capping me at about 8.9%.

I do recommend the DQ Rocket slime 3 though. I love the tank/ship battles.
