As another round of layoffs hit Xbox, Microsoft cancels Rare's long in development Everwild

i looked it up online, apparently hi-fi rush had over three million players in under six months, counting games purchased and gamepass together. that sounds like good results for a medium budgeted game, but i guess the results have to be far better than that in microsoft's eyes

Microsoft seems to have dig themselves into a hole with Gamepass but that's another topic.

even so, stepping on developer toes does seem to happen, regardless of if the developers deserved it or not. i do not think the hi-fi rush devs getting shuttered is ok due to microsoft's handling of the game pass model, when the hi-fi rush devs had nothing to do with the game pass model. they were only just recently acquired too

what I mean by that is that Microsoft doesn't come in and tells them what to do with the games/projects. The business side of things is another whole can of worms.

They conditioned Xbox users not to buy games, now they're trying to get Playstation users to buy them. Looking at Doom: The Dark Ages sales, I don't think it's working. Even Indiana Jones which sold better on PS5 than Xbox, still sold low numbers.

Yup, my friends over at Xbox rarely buy games. I seem to be the only one who cares about them lol.

Oh man, Big companies shooting themselves in the foot, to be fair, Microsoft is digging it's own grave and asking for people to riot by simply not buying their games, anything i wanted to say was already told so i will give my two cents to what will happen to them if they keep acting like arses to their biggest source income: The consumers

If people managed to get together and crumble Ubisoft's empire of jumk, we can tell Microsoft to chill the fuck out with their bad decisions by merely not fedding them the wrong idea

Now if you excuse me, i will go back to crying over the what could have happened if Nintendo kept Rare

I've bought Xbox games since the OG Xbox all the way through the Xbox One generation. I started to slow down my Xbox purchases with Xbox Series generation because it started with "Smart Delivery" games which typically had the Xbox One version on the disc instead of the superior Xbox Series version, and then they just stopped putting a lot of the games on the disc altogether. I bought Halo Infinite at launch and was pretty PO'd when I found out all that was on the disc was some launcher, megabytes in size, and it required you to download the full game. There's no point in physical at that point. And that's what they've done with Doom: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones, etc., on both Xbox and PS5.

Xbox is now a shadow of what it became in the X360 era
it is odd how committed they used to be in regard to creating system selling exclusive video games
i have played maybe three shooter games in my life and even i know about games like halo 3 and gears of war

I pretty much wrote off Microsoft after Scalebound. If they weren't going to embrace anything that wasn't an FPS they weren't worth the money, I'll buy on Steam and GOG only from then on.

Peter Moore, J Allard, Shane Kim, etc., took the Xbox brand to its peak and then Don Mattrick and Phil Spencer threw it off the cliff.

The hits just keep on coming. Maybe he'll go to Playtonic or start a new studio. Playtonic also had a bunch of layoffs last month.

LoL, In case anyone somehow missed that Xbox is dead. My guess is that they are going full outsourcing and using UE5 to pad the GamePass until something better comes and they just drop everything. Im not even sad, they have been on a downfall since the Xbox One, and all the people and vision that they had was let go/obstructed/fired.

Anyways, dont cry because it is over, cry becase it happened or something like that... idk im going to play some OG Xbox games and 360 ones...

Let's be honest here when has Rare made a GOOD game? How long has it been? I wouldn't put it past me that their new game was going to be good anyway. It looks pretty but it's probably some multiplayer grindfest with barely any players on considering its on XBOX.
This

Some people are crying about Everwind and it has been silent since its announcement. It doesnt even looks all that good or revolutionary, and we you learn that the game has been on development for like 10 years... it was going to get the axe with or without these cuts.

The only reason why this project had any interest was because of "remember Rare?" and this goodwill was destroyed years ago. Their last good project, imo, was Live & Reloaded for the OG Xbox. Thats it.

Its sad when you look at what a trainwreck Microsoft/XBox has become. I guess I should of realized back when it took 8 Xbox 360s before I got one that didn't get the red rings. And that last one was a 360 I cobbled together from 3 that didn't work, maybe they should of offered me Spencer's job

Contrary to popular gamer belief, Microsoft doesn't step on their developer's toes. They just expect results.
Kind of? As far as I'm aware, the industry trend and the poor sales of the respective previous titles was a factor in the cancellation of Kameo 2 and Perfect Dark Core. They definitely didn't had the same lenience they did during their time at Nintendo
